Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
North seems like a smart kid who wont get too 'fooled' by false praises by coaches pretending to be your 'best buddy; all of a sudden. Look at schools academic reputation and how that degree will help out rest of your life after football. You will get to the NFL whether you play at Tenn. or UNC. NFL sees you play no matter where you are. Tenn signed 5 WRs already and UNCs FedEx spread offense may give North more film for NFL to see though. I think he is smart enough to listen to his Mom/Dad about what they think is best also.

Gotta imagine it would be tough to not pick UNC in that situation...

sounds like his Dad is getting recruited by Tenn coaches and he is loving the attention. Do whats best for the kid long term , not the Dads ego.

Something tells me there is more to this story than we know. Perhaps LSU is using the class excuse to free up a scholarship for someone else they feel they can flip or because he's not interested in grey shirting they face a scholarship crunch or perhaps this is the LSU football version of the UNC hoops' Jason Parker saga. Who knows but our staff would be remiss if they didn't make inquiries. Four star O-Linemen are always worth looking into. --------------------------------------------- --- CowboysHeels1964 wrote: this, please LSU standards (school) compared to UNC. Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
This. LSU playing games here. Proof of this is that UNC is even looking at it. UNC knows if LSU said OFFICIALLY no to a class so would UNC. Its Scholly-Games 101, thats all. They probably feel the instate kid loves LSU plus he is probably middle/upper class kid who they KNOW can afford low instate tuition etc. GAMES 101 and FedEX smart as hell to swoop in if this ****** kid/parents off. But like I said, he may love LSU so much he will take the greyshirt offer. --------------------------------------------- --- SBucknall wrote: Something tells me there is more to this story than we know. Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
All schools, except for a few, lower their standards for athletes, including UNC. The ones that don't are not playing big time football, or basketball. Basically, the NCAA clears all courses the athlete takes in high school before they can be eligible to play their sport in college. The fact that a course fails to meet minimum NCAA Clearing House standards happens more often than you think. Every year I hear about signees who can't enroll because of the Clearing House. That is only the ones I hear about. I am sure there are many more athletes who schools pass over because of questions about classes. LSU is lucky to have caught it before he signed. If the Clearing House redflags a prospective athlete's transcript, the Clearing House is often notorious for informing the schools at the last minute about whether the classes taken are okay. If they are not, then often the athlete falls short of admission requirements. --------------------------------------------- --- TarHeelTim wrote: If the class doesn't pass LSU's standards-surely it won't pass at UNC. --------------------------------------------- --- theells1 wrote: Tevin Lawson lost his scholarship from LSU and we have contacted him today. insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/lsu/post?id=7862--------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------

RE: 2013 Recruiting Updates
Keep in mind these are "Minimum Standards":The NCAA's new eligibility standards for prospective student-athletes go into effect for the 2016 class but begin applying to this fall's high school freshmen. To be eligible for a scholarship and compete at a Division I institution, a high school student must have done the following:
16: Number of core courses required for NCAA eligibility 10: Number of core courses that must be completed by the beginning of a high school athlete's senior year 7: Number of 10 initial core courses that must be in English, math or science 2.3: Minimum GPA in those 16 core courses (up from 2.0) 2.5: Minimum GPA for junior college transfer.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
If you don't believe that UNC didn't admit athletes who normally wouldn't get in school, you are in complete denial. Most schools do that that play BCS football. I have seen SAT scores data, and UNC falls in line with most schools that play big time sports. I am referring to athletes(basketball and football), not the general student population. However, that is not the main point. The article about the former LSU commit talked about the Clearing House probably not accepting a class. If he was was asked to greyshirt, because of a class, then they are not willing to waste a scholly till he completes a class the Clearing House will accept. If you remember, Alfy Hill had the NCAA Clearing House refuse to accept a core class, 9th grade English, which was taken online. He was already at Bama when he got the news, and ended up being not able to play for them. The article has nothing to do with proposed new standards, or the ones that will go into effect, which I agree with. --------------------------------------------- --- TarHeelTim wrote: Bull.... RE: 2013 Recruiting Updates
So, clarify this for me. We are only allowed to give out 19 scholarships this year. Right now we have 18 commits. Do we have to accept another commit? Or can we sit on this one and sign 21 kids next year? Especially if we perform on the field well this year, recruiting could be good next year. Very good.

I was about to ask the same question... based on the recruiting board, Miller is the only offer out there for #19.
I'd be curious just to hear predictions... do we get Miller? Stick with 18? Lose 1 (Wiggins)? Pull of a late surprise?
