Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

I know this. But I think until this year Scout's 4*+ players were limited to its top 300 list. That is not the case this year. There are 350 players ranked as 4* players. I could be wrong about how Scout has done things in the past but I am pretty sure this is the case.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

One more point that might be of interest to some: Scout has increased its traditional number of 4*+ players beyond its top 300 list. Lawrence would have been a 3* last year. But the other rating services rate based on qualities they see not some arbitrary number. 247 has 402 4* players while Rivals has 326. My suspicion is that Scout realized that its way of rating players in the past was somewhat arbitrary, thus the increase in the number of 4* players this year. But there could be some other reason. Maybe they have selected another arbitrary number.

Sounds like the rating services have been observing the grade inflation in Chapel Hill, etc.

RE: 2013 Recruiting Updates

I think it all depends on Monte Taylor's ability to make the grades needed to come here. If he can't make it, then Bart is just filling his scholarship (which is great for UNC). If Taylor does make it, then that means there is one spot left open for UNC to fill, and that will likely be given to North first and foremost. We shouldn't root against Taylor to make the grades, but in the best interest of UNC and their scholarship limitations, it would be best for us that Mikey Bart is just taking Monte Taylor's spot in this class.

Great news and I do remember that 2 players may have to go the JUCO route. I saw Taylor as a 2* and Bart as a 3* so that's an upgrade.

RE: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Monte Taylor seems to be going JUCO. He has been taken off 247 and Scout's recruiting boards for us (presumably today). I would venture a guess that Bart was specifically recruited today for Taylor's spot. This would appear to leave us with one defensive scholarship and one Marquez North scholarship.

This confirms what I was thinking about yesterday. Lawson/Reed and North/Alston still have two spots earmarked for them, and Taylor's JUCO spot goes to Bart.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

True enough but you really have not said much here. The significance of ratings is the difference between correlation and causation. Huge difference between saying all 4* players will be successful and the probability is that a 4* recruit will outperform a 3* recruit. Give me a team of 4* recruits any day and I will feel very comfortable saying 8 out of ten times my team will be better than your 3* team.

I said over a month ago on the Wiggins highlight video that he's heavily considering going to school in South Carolina. Truth be told, Wiggins tried to talk Khris Francis into coming with him to Clemson. Again, I wont say Wiggins goes to Clemson, but he's let it be known that he's very interested in going to Clemson.

After what I saw on his twitter all this weekend I definitely think he is a Clemson lean. He even talked with Brian Dawkins the longtime NFL safety, seemed to have a big impact on him. Just feels like he has been looking for a reason to go somewhere other than UNC, but we'll see. I'm sure he has visited UNC countless times already since he lives so close by so I kind of doubt how much impact this last visit will have.
