Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

according to ESPN, Adams has his list to 5. We are battling for the 5th spot on the list against Ole Miss

Florida, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and then either us or Ole Miss are where he wants to go for his OV.

TOS might have a top 7 for him but seeing he wants these 5 OV, that is what I am believing more..

Balboa: There is nothing in this post or any of my posts which even hints that I think he should get every player in the State. The post says, and I stand by it 100%, that there are kids in the state we have no chance of landing (Blasevich, Grier in 2014), kids for whom we are the first choice from the beginning(Dinkins and hopefully Spain in 2014), and kids who are genuinely in play (Hood and Lloyd for example). To accomplish what Fedora himself has said he wants to accomplish, we must win some of those battles for kids who are in play. If he lands North I will give him credit. If he does not I will not act like its not a loss. I would say the Fedora has done a good job. If he lands North I would elevate that to very good. Had he landed North and Crowder-A+. But looking only at the wins avoids half of reality.

Five-star DT Adams sets 4 officials

With his football season wrapped up, five-star defensive tackle Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly Co.) is now set to focus on his recruitment. Adams has yet to formally narrow down his list of teams, but today he announced he had set up four of his official visits, with two programs fighting for his fifth and final spot.

“I am taking an official to Florida immediately after the Under Armour Game, then Clemson, Jan. 11, Alabama, Jan. 18, and to Georgia on Jan. 25,” Adams said. “I might take a fifth official to UNC or Ole Miss.”

Last weekend at the Georgia Dome, Adams and his teammates played ECI for the GHSA A class (public) state championship. Several college coaches were on the sidelines to watch Adams and others play, but the No. 7 prospect in the country only recalls talking to one school.

“I only remember talking to Coach [Rodney] Garner from Georgia, and he told me about the style of offense ECI plays and how he hates going up against Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern because every year he will have a defensive lineman get hurt in that game,” Adams said. “I went down in the game and I was thinking he was right. I know Coach Garner talked to my mom, too, and she likes him.”

The in-state Bulldogs are hoping to keep Adams from leaving Georgia, and one aspect of the school that appeals to the 6-foot-3, 300-pound lineman is the likelihood of the Georgia coaching staff staying intact while he is in college.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Georgia wouldn't be a good destination for Adams if he's looking for immediate playing time. He would definitely get it here or the probability is quite high for him to get major playing minutes.

Georgia already has 30 verbal commitments to its 2013 recruiting class. And the Bulldogs are still looking to add a few more quality recruits before February's national signing day.

"There's still some defensive line spots that we need to fill because of the attrition that we're going to experience there," Georgia recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner told Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There's probably an offensive tackle there. We definitely need a tackle more than a guard-type body. And another skill guy, the best available athlete we can find."

It's reached the point where Georgia is targeting specific highly ranked individuals to fill those slots more so than simply trying to add numbers.

No. 1 offensive tackle recruit Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, Fla./Columbia), top defensive tackle Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly) and four-star running back Alvin Kamara (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) all sit at the top of the Bulldogs' wishlist.

A possible addition to the defensive line in particular should have an immediate impact next season:

- Brent Sobleski

David Ching
Position scouting report: Defensive end
"If Georgia can sign (Montravius) Adams, he would probably have a chance to play as a true freshman, but 2014 would be a season where he could win even more significant playing time after (Garrison) Smith's departure. This would also be Drew's senior season and his final opportunity to fulfill the potential that made him one of the nation's most sought-after prospects in 2011.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Well, like the saying goes: Build it and they will come.

It is always hard in the beginning, especially given the circumstances of the last few years. The more we win, the more willingly they will come. And, just because he hasn't done it yet doesn't mean he can't and won't either. I have confidence with his personality and coaching style that he will be able to attract a great deal of top recruits to UNC now that we start come out of this mess of the last few years, and start to get more quality wins under our belt. When UNC Football is mentioned and the only thing is mentioned is football and quality wins and a program on the rise, and not all the other crap being spewed out, that will help even more...especially with the fans which will help put more butts in seats and help create a more live atmosphere at games which goes a long way with recruits as well.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

I wasn't saying every player I meant we may not get North which would mean we can't get them all. The thing is before Fedora came to UNC we had a slim shot at North and the same thing can be said about Crowder.

So to say things like if we miss on North coach Fedora has failed is just not true. You also said if Fedora doesn't land North he may not be able to live up to the hype and he is in his first full year of recruiting. I think he needs more time before we say things like that.

I agree it will suck if we don't get North but it is amazing that Fedora has put us in a position to get him and get other big name guys to even visit. To me if we get North it is just icing on the cake because we have not been his leader at all until a few weeks ago.

So for the 2014 class I will not be surprised if a lot of the top NC talent does not end up at UNC. This does not mean that Fedora can't live up to the hype it just means recruiting is about building relationships and that is hard to do when you are starting from behind other coaches.

Spain for example does not favor us he currently favors South Carolina as does Berrios and probably Barbour. Hood has always said he wanted to play for the Irish while Edwards was favoring Duke. Dinkins always thought he would end up playing at Clemson but as of now we have him committed so I say well done coach Fedora.

Coach Fedora has his hands full to try to lock up the state. The most I expect is 5 out of the top 12 instate guys a year which I feel like Fedora might be able to do from the 2015 class on. What is going to help is it looks like Fedora will be able to recruit out of state pretty good too.

He'll be starting as a redshirt freshman. The only reason it won't be as a freshman is because his hips and flexibility need a lot of work and, most importantly, we have NFL prospects at tackle, and he (Coleman) can't play guard (we have a hole there, and could have used Crowder). Usually guys this big don't have good feet, or block within the line of scrimmage, but you see him 15 yards down field. I think this will be a walk on that is a diamond - mark my words.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Sbm i see where you're coming from but we have A LOT of depth at some of these positions and we can live without them. Grier isn't needed because we will have a great QB slinging the peel for at least 3 more years, North (as much as we all want him) isn't needed because we have a lot of great catchers coming in, including Logan (too small right now to play RB but too speedy to not play as a true). Blasevich would be a good addition because we could use a TE earlier then later, i'm sure, but we have enough big WRs to make up for a pass-catching TE. Hood is a MAN, and him playing in high school, even as a junior, is cheating - i watched him destroy my alma mater (Statesville Greyhounds) in the playoffs - but we have a lot of RBs next year so we don't need him. I think Francis will be Gio-ish, minus the return skills. Crowder is the one recruit that we lost and needed, but that's it. Everyone else that we lost, and could lose (North) can go.

Think that's pushing it a bit. I think two years with Lou and Kap will get him into the two deep as a sophomore, but I doubt he's starting as a RS-Freshman. This also depends on what kind of lineman we bring in as well. I'm really excited we got him though.

I am just passing information I have read from a premium site and a guy who has followed North for two years. He said we were never a favorite for North but Clemson was always the favorite. I guess I shouldn't have said a slim chance but I should have said we are in a lot better position for North now then we was before Fedora showed up.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

None of us knows of course, but I do not think it is accurate to say we were not among North's favorites from the beginning. I was on the premium board for three years, but it just got too crazy over there. Quit the day after the loss to Wake. Fedora was a living legend an hour before the game and the worst coaching disaster in UNC history an hour after the game. Could not take it anymore. But there is better information on recruiting over there, and the thought from most even a year ago was that he was a likely UNC lean. There was a time he was leaning Clemson but it really makes no sense for him to go there if pt is the issue. Their depth at WR is nuts. Its TN or here imo.

I agree I think he picks us or Tennessee. Some of the information I am passing along is not from posters on a message board but from Paul and Keith who do this for a job. Paul is all over everything recruiting at Carolinablue.com and he interviews players and then fills everyone in who is a member.

I would recommend anyone who enjoys getting in-dept information in recruiting to join and check him out. Like I said we may have been among the leaders but according to them Clemson was the favorite before Fedora got the job.

Josh McNeill, the only TE really considered by the staff for this year's class, has decommitted from Alabama according to ESPN.

insider.espn.go.com/blog/colle...ma/post?id=9369

It says that it stems from an academic issue, which is worrisome. However, if McNeill is willing to greyshirt, perhaps he comes into the fold for Carolina (who would be more than happy to wait on him for a year). Thoughts?

No, he's thinking of McNeill. ESPN bottom line last night was saying that McNeill had decommitted from Bama and committed to LSU. Now, I don't know whether that is actually true, but that's what ESPN was reporting.

ETA: Apparently Mcneill Tweeted that he had committed to LSU, but LSU is denying that he is in fact committed. Odd. www.sbnation.com/college-footb...ecruiting-media

Crowder could probably go in the wouldn't have seriously considered coming here crowd, the fact Fedora got into his top 3 took some effort in itself, Lewis was all set to commit but wanted to play the recruiting game, Fedora got tired of twiddling his thumbs and decided to move on to Haynes taking away Lewis's spot.

I hate to break it to you for the 14 cycle but Span as of right now is a South Carolina lean and Notre Lame is thought to be the team to beat for Hood since they entered the picture.

That does seem weird because McNeil looks to be a really good player. It reminds me of the guy that held his own press conference at his school and committed to a school that had never recruited him. Do you guys remember that?

No, he's thinking of McNeill. ESPN bottom line last night was saying that McNeill had decommitted from Bama and committed to LSU. Now, I don't know whether that is actually true, but that's what ESPN was reporting.

ETA: Apparently Mcneill Tweeted that he had committed to LSU, but LSU is denying that he is in fact committed. Odd. www.sbnation.com/college-footb...ecruiting-media

It says that it stems from an academic issue, which is worrisome. However, if McNeill is willing to greyshirt, perhaps he comes into the fold for Carolina (who would be more than happy to wait on him for a year). Thoughts?

That McNeil kid could be one of those shaky kids with all that he's had to endureth and overcome. I pray UNC is not after him.

The more I'm hearing about him, the more I'm reminded of Alfy Hill and EJ Abrams-Ward. I hope this kid can get it together.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

OT Eric Smith has committed to Virginia. Smith is the guy we started to recruit before we got Henson to flip to us. It will be interesting to see over time who ended up with the better player. Right now Henson is ranked quite a bit better then Smith and Henson can play more positions.

At least Alfy continued to play football. EJ is back in Thomasville playing flag football. What a waste too, kid is a beast athlete.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Things are going to start picking up here a bit. Those recruits that are making last-minute decisions for early enrollment will start things off first, then it's about a month until NSD on February 6. Still a few BIG fish out there for UNC, but of course everyone wants to know:

What will MarQuez North do?

Time will tell; he is choosing between Tennessee and UNC, and to this point reports have UNC as a slight favorite with Tennessee making up more ground every day under their new coaching staff.

Other big-name recruits like Carl Lawson and Montravius Adams are still out there considering UNC, and there may be a surprise or two left as well. At this stage in recruiting, who knows?

One this is for sure - with 19 commitments, UNC doesn't have a lot of spots left. Who gets those final remaining scholarships? Stay tuned, ladies and gentlemen - it's going to be a crazy ride the next few weeks.

Let's go with surprises: From what I see on other sites Coley is not out of the picture. Perhaps he will be a surprise, particularly if North goes to TN.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

I think we end up with North and Adams, Wilkins or Miller at DT with Taylor not coming!!!!

E.T.A. Another player that could be one of those surprises is ATH Donald Gray Jr. from Memphis, Tennessee:

There is still a small chance we could get ATH Cornelius Elder if we are interested:

One last possibility also is OLB Dillan Lawson who has us in his Top 5:

It would be nice if we got all three even if a few were walk ons.

Is North trying to pull a Kennedy Meeks on us? I mean, wait until the last minute.

I'm not sure, but I can almost guarantee he won't be an early enrollee regardless of where he goes; this isn't because his academics aren't in order, but rather I'm just not sure he will make his decision in time to get his paperwork ready and done. So, I guess to answer your question I would say "no", but only because I don't think he's trying to enroll anywhere early.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

I think North has pushed back his commitment time table so he definitely wont be enrolling early. It will be a battle all the way with us, Tennessee, and maybe Clemson but hopefully we will eventually pull it out.
