Update on Marquez North... insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/osu/post?id=3793If you don't have espn insider: North said he plans to take his next official to Tennessee on Oct. 19 for the Alabama game. In the meantime, he and his father are playing it week by week, according to specific game matchups. They also have seen North Carolina this fall, and the Tar Heels are right there in the next group after Tennessee. “North Carolina just feels like home,” North said. “It is close, and they have the spread now, so they are trying to get the ball out to their playmakers in a number of ways. “'Quise [Marquise Williams] tells me all of the time I need to get down there. I am comfortable with them right now, so we will just have to wait and see how it goes.”

Hopefully Alabama beats the crap out of Tennessee on his visit and he realizes that they have a long way to go as a team. North would be a huge commit for us not only on the field but also in recruiting for the future.

RE: 2013 Recruiting Updates
When did you get the Switzer thing? I did not read the article but I just saw this "Despite reports suggesting otherwise, Ryan Switzer is firmly committed to North Carolina and has no plans to visit any other schools." on an ESPN thing. I guess the trick is if you don't have people trying to steal your peeps then you may be recruiting the wrong peeps.
--------------------------------------------- --- TheSandhills wrote:
We seem to have alot of verbal commits looking at other schools:
Brian Walker will likely be taking official visits to TN, among others (look up "Brian Walker UNC" on Youtube and you can see the interview).
Ryan Switzer has stated that he will likely visit FSU and that if anything happens to UNC he is gone (see recent ESPN Insider article, this is in the free preview section of the article).
Desmond Lawrence has stated that he is firm but has been receiving alot of attention from SEC schools lately (I believe I saw this on 247).
Donnie Miles being recruited hard by Auburn and TN according to Rusty Mansell's Twitter feed. There were rumors of him decommitting several months ago, which, admittedly, he rebutted.
Jarran Reed has openly stated that he is "keeping his options open" and a recent Tar Heel Times article stated that "“All of my options are still open,” Reed said. “I’m not closing any doors.” Reed, a native of Goldsboro, N.C., says he’s hearing from the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Mississippi State, Missouri and Texas Tech."
Wiggins and Francis were at the State/FSU game last weekend and Wiggins has been long considered a "soft commit" at best.
EDIT: 2014 verbal Robert Dinkins also been very open about liking Clemson growing up and wanting to visit them now that they have offered.
Is anyone else worried?

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
Folks in Knoxville are hardly ever happy since Peyton & Tee Martin left. Dooley could go 8-4 this year with his only losses being to schools ranked in the top 5 and the fans would not be excited - but it would be a really solid year.
Unless Dooley wins maybe 9 or 10, the buzz about Fedora will almost certainly be better than whatever the Vols are saying about Dooley. So we have got that going for us.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
Just found out on Espn insider that OG Dorian Miller is no longer considering UNC. We told him we might not have a scholarship available, so he backed out of his upcoming visit. Really too bad. We had a good shot at him and he's a pretty good player.

This a little surprising but it is what it is. I guess we are down to Crowder, North, Alston and maybe Georgia commit OG Kublanow as a long shot.

In light of this I am switching my prediction for the rest of the recruiting class to:
WR Marquez North OG Tyrone Crowder

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
I hope I won't get into trouble by posting their inside info, but here it is:
“It is kind of even with Clemson and Georgia right now, and North Carolina is right there after them,” Crowder said. “Texas offered about a month ago but I have not really looked at them yet. They could be in there if I do check them out. I know Texas has a great program and I would like to learn more about them.”
Clemson: “They have a great team and I really like what they are doing. It is a good academic school. My cousin Stephone Anthony plays there and he tells me how great things are there. It is kind of close to home and I used to live like thirty minutes from Clemson, so I still have some family right there. I communicate with Coach [Dan] Brooks, Coach [Robbie] Caldwell and Coach [Dabo] Swinney pretty much every week.”
North Carolina: “That is my top in-state school, and I just got done talking with Coach [Larry] Fedora, Coach Vic [Koenning] and Coach Kap [Chris Kapilovic] last Tuesday. Really they are just excited about me having them in my top group and they just want me to give them a chance. They think I can do big things for their program, and they want me to get down there for more games. They are making the best of what they came into, and they are trying to keep the best players in-state as they try to build things back up. They are probably recruiting me the hardest right now.”
Georgia: “They have a good chance with me. They are a very physical team and there is a great atmosphere around their campus. I talked to Coach [Will] Friend and Coach [Mark] Richt a week ago and they pretty much tell me to take my time with my decision, and if I need someone to talk to about anything in life, just to give them a call. They are great guys. They are selling me on having a chance to play with the best and against the best in the SEC. Georgia has the best campus I have seen so far. Just the support from the student body and the city makes for a great college atmosphere.”
I didn't realize that Stephone Anthony (a LB recruit 2 3 years ago) is his cousin

RE: 2013 Recruiting Updates
Walker worries me slightly but if we can keep winning while hopefully Tennessee drops 2 or 3 games if not more(would love for them to go winless the rest of the way) I think he's solid.
As it says, unless some sanctions come down he should be ours, if anything else were to get thrown at us I don't think he's the only one we'd have to worry about.
Seems like Lawrence isn't having any second thoughts.
Miles seems firm and I'm biased but I think were more just as attractive options as Auburn and Tennessee at this point.
That comment by Reed and all those schools coming after him has me worried, he's one especially with the scholarship limits I don't think we could afford to lose.
Pretty sure Francis was just along with his Hillside buddies, Wiggins on the other hand...the way his recruitment has been I wouldn't be shocked if he seems pretty solid all the way then flips on signing day.
Dinkins is too far off to even give much of an opinion on as who knows how his interest will be over the next year and half but I like our chances to keep him in the fold.
Also I don't have any inside info whatsoever so don't be shocked if I'm wrong on all those haha.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates
Dooley is 0-11 or 1-11 in last 12 SEC games according to Tony Barnhardt this morning on am sports talk. The streak will continue as Alabama is up next. As a recruit considering Tn or Aub, Its very possible that you may need to forge relatiionship with new staff in '13 or '14. Chizik may have it tougher as he is measured against everything in Tuscaloosa. A coaching transition can set back at least one recruting class. In the case of hiring an inexperienced coach like Bunting, it can be multiple classes.

Mizzel says he is still solid to Virginia but UNC is still recruiting him. Maybe we can get him to visit for our home game against Virginia and beat the crap out of them.
My fault I thought we went to Virginia this year but I read a post about him being on campus for the game and I got messed up. Well anyway maybe we can beat the crap out of them there and impress him.

What do the other schools in his top 5 offer in the medical field?

It's not about what they offer in the medical field. It's about what they offer in the parking lot at the end of the official visit. We can't match that. Our pockets aren't that deep.

Kevin
seeing that we don't have an official "Pre-Med" program, it's hard to say if we have a better chance than anyone else.
however, if the kid truly values his education and a possible future in Medicine, then there's not really a choice at all between his final 3.

RE: 2013 Recruiting Updates
who cares if there is a "pre-med" program? I was in a "pre-med" type curriculum at UNC. So was my sister and brother-in-law. We are all physicians. I think "pre-med" is irrelevent. An academic adviser can steer you through your qualifications. As far as medicine is concerned, someone needs to tell Tyrone Clemson is an agriculture schools so if he has serious interest in owning a landscape/nursery business, I would recommend he go there. If Tyrone wants to go to school where he can get a degree that will catapult him into medicine, he should look at UNC and UGA. Oh BTW, NFL draft analysts, Kiper and McShay have just voted UNC's OL the best in the nation.
