Looks good to me; may have to try to get home to western PA for Thanksgiving! A little earlier, of course!

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE

I like that an off week bookends the Thursday night game against Miami so we have 11 days to prepare for that game and then 8 days of rest before BC.

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE

I know this has been discussed, but our official schedule says we open at South Carolina on Thursday, August 29th, while theirs says Saturday, August 31.

How would that typically be resolved?

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE

2 ESPN games.... Nice... We could go 12-0 or 10-2. All our games are winnable with our huge core of guys back. We have a well balanced schedule. We have two nice gaps in games. We don't play on 9/14 or 10/12.

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE

That Pitt game is going to be harder than some are going to think, but without being too much of a homer I think we have a realistic shot at 10-2 or 9-3 with this schedule.

That schedule is definitely front loaded though, so to all those who have a tendency to jump ship at the first sign of adversity...remember it is more important to finish strong than start strong.

All our games are always winnable. Let's fact it; there are a 1/2 dozen that we could lose. Memories of Wake and dook just last year!

The twin forays Down South to ATL and Cola will define whether or not this is a season for the ages.

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE

Instead of this quote from Boxhill:

"On behalf of the faculty, I appreciate the efforts by the Department of Athletics to minimize the disruptions on campus by working with all the affected constituencies in making arrangements for the Thursday night football game during Fall Break,"

Wouldn't it been nice if she had said:

"I am excited about the Thursday game and the exposure it will provide for our University. For there hours homes across the country will be our guest via the broadcast. This provides a unique opportunity to show off our campus to the rest of the country and around the world and I am excited by the opportunity it presents for the University."

Just saying, would that not have been much nicer?

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE

We 'could' be 2-4 in our first 6 games if things don't go our way, or our defense doesn't make the necessary improvements.

Nah, that will be at night. Good news is we will only have two noon home games in Sept. when it will be super hot. Next nooner after that isn't until late October.

Although extra time hasn't helped us a lot in the past, it certainly has helped everyone else in the ACC when they play the jackets. I think we are 1-3 against the PJ-coached jackets when we have extra time and 0-1 when we don't. However, GT under Johnson is something like a .800 team against FBS opponents when the opposition doesn't have extra time and is a .400 team or something like that when they do. It hasn't been a huge factor for us but there are only a few data points... Over time, it's going to work in our favor.

The last UNC at PITT game I attended (early 90s I think) we had tickets beside the pep band, they retired Dan Marino's jersey, it was the last college game played at Three Rivers Stadium - and the Tar Heels won! Hope this year is just as memorable.

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE RELEASED

If we can somehow come out of Columbia with a win, I could see how the schedule could realy be friendly. Extra time for GT, potential ECU scare prior to going into Blacksburg, BC warm-up prior to State game.

Of course, it's not all roses. The game in Pittsburgh on November 16th will be cold, but we should be fine. The schedule is (for the first time in several years) FRONT-loaded. I can't remember an easier back six than BC/@State/ODU/@Pitt/dook/UVa.

All in all, there are lots of things going in our favor on this schedule (no FSU, no Clemson, about as weak of a trio of OOC opponents that you'll get...ODU/Middle Tennesse/ECU is about as weak as Idaho/Elon/ECU and that was the weakest trio we've had in a decade).

Once again the GT game is huge. 3-1 after the first four games could be huge for this team. That likely means beating GT.

When is Homecoming?

I'm guessing either 10/26 vs. BC or 11/9 vs. UVA. More likely UVA.

Go 4-1 or 5-0 to start the season and that Thursday night game against da U becomes the game that defines whether we go to the ACCCG and the OB/BCSCG or just another ho-hum season.

That game will be HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!

It's cute that they were so adamant about refusing to "allow" us a Thursday night game in their stadium.

At South Carolina, at Ga Tech and at Va Tech are 3 of those first 5. Getting a bit ahead of ourselves to circle the Miami game.

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE RELEASED

Read for comprehension please. I'm saying IF we go 4-1 or 5-0 through that stretch THEN the game against the U becomes the big one. Lose 2 or 3 of those games and the U game is just another game in Conference, in Division, but the "special" season would probably be lost.

Re: 2013 SCHEDULE

I think that's a pretty silly argument to take with Dr. Boxill's words. The faculty has been pretty difficult about Thursday games and that it is even happening is pretty awesome. This is a positive statement, even if it isn't the one you want. She's a former college athlete and coach, worked the PA at women's games and a real ally to the athletes, football included, at UNC. You'll find the football guys in her classes have high praise for her.

Just be happy it is going to happen. Don't quibble over words.
