This is a rumor only. It's been placed in threads that get quickly locked. Add this one to that list.

I totally agree, Carolina better not go to the "Big I Don't know how to Count" conference.

this was a stupid tweet from a self-proclaimed Maryland "insider."

he has since retracted his tweet - said he was referencing something from 2 years ago.

lock up this #@%* thread

In before the lock. I doubt anything happens before the Maryland situation is handled and schools see how that turns out.

Our PTB know the crapstorm they would unleash on themselves if we went to the big-10

Re: Carolina officially invited to the Big 10?

Carolina has basically HAD an invite to the Big 10 for 20 years.

UNC is NOT going to leave a league it helped found, rivals its had for 100+ years, and, like-minded institutions who believe there is more to college athletics than just football.

Unless its a CREDIBLE source, i.e., somebody like Brett McMurphy from ESPN, or, David Teel from the Hampton Roads Daily Press, you can pretty much discount it as nonsense.

We do not accept.

To reiterate this point, DeLaney would cut off his left nut to have UNC join. We have had an "offer" for years.

There is a conference we MIGHT leave the ACC for, but it isn't the Big-10. Though, money is on us staying unless something happens.

This is true. And the "something happening" has to be on a scale of two key universities leaving the ACC.

That is different, you actually take your toilet up on its offer. :P

Brother, I am with you on that.

But, lets be real here. UNC will NEVER be the first team to leave the ACC. Neither will UVA, IMHO. The ACC is stable, unlike what all of the Big 12 kooks will tell us.

Some B10 fans think Delany can just waltz down here, and, take us whenever he pleases. That is far from the truth. Does anybody in their right mind really think that the B10 would have taken Rutgers, when they could have had UNC and/or UVA? Really? Of course not.

Success in football is cyclical. The ACC has been down for over a decade. Its high time for its to rise again. I think that the good bowl season we just had will carry over into 2013.

That's true, I should have used the toilets at Carter Finley instead, they don't get enough use!

When it hits the mainstream media, the story has legs.

RE: Carolina officially invited to the Big 10?

You know what happens when a somewhat pretty girl (or guy depending on your persuasion) all of a sudden catches the eye of a very handsome person of the opposite sex, they all of a sudden become very attractive to others that may not have noticed before. Carolina is clearly not "somewhat pretty." Carolina is drop dead gorgeous. I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC reacts and tries to set in and convince Carolina to take their hand rather than the hand of the other vying for its attention.

Pardon the analogy. You know what I'm getting at. ;-)

Did you not read the article?

North Carolina has not commented publicly on Ermann's report; however, USA Today's Dan Wolken, who was in Atlanta for the Heels' men's basketball game against Georgia Tech, tweeted that "after talking with UNC officials tonight the idea they have anything going on with the B1G seems far-fetched."

Re: Carolina officially invited to the Big 10?

Jeff Ermann is now “clarifying” what he is hearing in regards to UNC on twitter.

Jeff Ermann ‏@insidemdsports
The #SEC also remains a viable option for #UNC. Legit mutual interest, per multiple sources. Heels a crown jewel of the realignment picture.

Jeff Ermann ‏@insidemdsports
Seems to be some confusion. So it’s clear, I’ve reported nothing to the effect that UNC is Big 10-bound; just that Big 10 wants the Heels.

Regardless of what is or isn't actually happening, if the UNC fanbase really doesn't want to go to the B1G, they need to contacting the powers that be at UNC early & often letting them know their stance (which I'm sure is happening).

We have been, and more importantly, the men who write the very big checks have told our administration which conference they prefer.

RE: Carolina officially invited to the Big 10?

I did. In saying that the story has legs, I was not saying UNC would entertain the offer but that a firm offer has been extended.

Re: Carolina officially invited to the Big 10?

back in november was the first thread on this "story". it was many pages long and devolved into repetitive "my sources say any day now...", linking moronic blogs or general twitter blowhards and was subsequently locked months later. i'm sure this thread would eventually be more of the same.
