Texas A&M's stadium upgrade

Texas A&M's stadium upgrade

This is what you can set in place quickly when you join the SEC.

blog.chron.com/aggies/2013/02/...e-field-emerge/

The return you get on the move is huge now, but just wait until the SEC network gets going and the money really starts flowing in. I know many of you want to join the B1G over the SEC, but just remember, if UNC doesn't join the SEC, NCSU will get the invite. UNC better not make the same mistake Tx did.

I'm guessing the upgrades will put aTm at 100,000+

So then the stadiums would be the same size.

I, as a veteran, like it. It is on the naive side, but imminently preferable to having a hippy, who hasn't bathed since the last time it rained on him, tell you how horrible you are, using epithets that you wouldn't want repeated in polite company.

Re: Texas A&M's stadium upgrade

Pretty much. But I would say 90% of UNC Alums want to stay in the ACC but this board is probably around 70% for SEC but they might just be a vocal minority. The SEC does not interest me as a UNC fan. There are maybe 3-4 teams in the SEC that interest me in terms of football matchups. South Carolina, UGa, and Tenn. They are the only interesting matchups in my opinion. Every other team would just be the novelty of playing an SEC team.

I understand that money rules all but I would rather UNC make less money for athletics and stay in the ACC. The tradition of ACC athletics is far more interesting to me as a fan. The B1G is even less interesting to me. I don't see really any matchups that will interest me. I know rivalrys can be born (note not made) but they will take a long time. At least in the SEC you would have the Battle of the Carolinas, border war with Tenn, and oldest school battle with UGa.

1) the number that want the ACC no matter what is nowhere near that number.
2) The first time you are right about what UNC fans, not BB only fans, want will be just that, the first time.
3) What some of you are missing is that UNC WILL leave should Clemson/FSU/GT/UVa leave... and the odds of 2 of them going are fairly decent.

I agree with the OP, UTexas made a huge mistake when they pointed their nose upward when Slive extended an invite to join our conference.

In all fairness though UT was bound by state politics to not leave behind TT and Baylor.

One of the reasons TAMU was allowed to go to the SEC was that they were the smaller than UT, and thus less able to support the others. It was also decided that having TAMU in the SEC would increase the possibility that two Texas teams could meet in the championship game.

Once Dodds and Mack Brown are gone UT will begin to rise back up to their historical level. This recent success is new for TAMU.

Re: Texas A&M's stadium upgrade

wow, as a kid growing up here in Texas, i remember going to Kyle Field and man that stadium has come a LOOOOONG way since the SWC days!...lol

the additions look nice. kyle field has some of the worst sideline views that make Kenan's lower field level seats look like a upper deck view. nevertheless, their 12th man/students do stand most of the game so it doesn't really matter. but the visitors seats are near the open endzone and those seats, due to their positioning & angle, makes you feel like you're sitting almost out of the stadium in the tunnel, lol. you literally have to stand at a angle to just see the field. a real homefield advantage!

nice renderings though. i tell you, football in Texas is on another level, no galaxy, from HS's to colleges. it would make your mouth drop if you're from NC, seriously. it's one thing to "hear" about it but another to "see" it down here! lol...wow...smh

Re: Texas A&M's stadium upgrade

Always good to see a school investing in itself. What A&M has done by moving to the SEC has been absolutely brilliant; they are now every bit the equal of Texas in the public eye, and have without question become one of the hottest commodities in college football with the success of Manziel and their new conference affiliation.

As far as this being evidence of what happens when you move to the SEC, I will reserve judgment - for now. There's no question that a lot of A&M's momentum right now stems from their new affiliation, but there are lots of other factors (Manziel, Cotton Bowl berth, etc.) that play into a facility upgrade of this magnitude. We've seen renderings of "The House That RG3 Built" in Baylor (which is STUNNING, by the way), and UNC has been slowly updating Kenan and the surrounding area for the last few years, with more improvements still to come - regardless of conference affiliation.

For now, the ACC is (still) the best conference for UNC and all 28 of its varsity sports. The moment that changes, there is no question that the SEC would be the preferred choice over the B1G for a multitude of reasons that have been absolutely beaten into the ground on this board countless times.

to think just a couple of years ago the athletic department had to take a loan from the university to stay afloat. That's a big fiscal jump in a short period. Hopefully they don't become the Tennessee of the SEC west

"The amounts listed here are the actual revenue amounts reported by the SEC for the football and men's basketball events in 2011-12 and the actual revenue total from the NCAA for 2010-11, the most recent one available. But they are not likely to increase dramatically. The football title game has been sold out annually; the basketball tournament revenue has been stable in recent years, according to SEC releases; and while the distribution from the NCAA may rise because of the additions of Missouri and Texas A&M and due to increases in NCAA revenue, the conference's expansion may offset an increase on a per-school basis."

Read between the lines here. With these new deals the SEC is close to the point where further expansion doesn't make much financial sense. They would be doing it for the heck of it and not to dramatically increase per-school payouts, even if they added UNC. Maybe if they could get ND and Texas in the fold they would see a dramatic increase, but there isn't much else that would help them.

So this UNC/SEC thing is a pipe dream for some of you and for various reasons. It just ain't happening. And I'm confident that the vast majority of UNC supporters (especially the ones who actually attended the school) want the Heels in the ACC. Financially the ACC is doing well and when the media-rights fees get the bump from the latest additions + ND things will be even better.

The ACC is no more, as far as I'm concerned. Pitt? Syracuse, are you kidding me? It's just not the same.

Things change. Let's grab Uva, join the SEC and leave UNC-Rawley in the rear view.

Putting things into perspective if most of our SEC college towns had the population of those cities in Michigan we would have to have four 100,000 seat stadiums for each game. Play one quarter in a stadium and move on to the next one for another quarter. This might meet the ticket demand in relation to the population.

Texas A&M addition will seat 105,000. Texas will not let A&M have a bigger stadium and will enclose the south endzone to seat 115,000. When Deloss is gone in a year or two A&M and Texas will start playing again on Thanksgiving day. Lastly Texas will not go anyhere without out Texas Tech.TT Stadium will expand to 75,000 within in 5 to 10 years as their student enrollment increase to 45,000.

Some of these big expansions are silly when teams don't even sell out every game.

Texas Tech averaged 3,000 and change under capacity last year. And yet they need to add 15,000 new seats?
