Re: Conference realignment: Can ACC take schools for their word?

If conferences get any larger, seems to me they are no longer conferences, but more like divisions, i.e. NCAA East, NCAA West. I know it is about the money, but how big can a conference get and still have any resemblance to a "conference".

Any conference where you only play another team in the same conference once every six years isn't realy a conference. Wait, how often do we play Clemson, Weak, F$U or BC?

There's much to consider now with money being the big issue. Everyone is trying to make a move to places they never even considered because of the landscape of their current location.

That is Delany's genius. He'll go to 20 teams if they are the right 20 institutions.

That was a worthless article. Unfortunately, the football dead times between now and spring practice, and from spring practice to fall camp should generate about another thousand repeats of it.

As an admitted B1G fan and resident, I think the question in this thread can be answered in the ACC offices if they simply check their history with the Big East. I'd expect that if the B1G is negotiating with UNC/UVA/GT/FSU to switch to the B1G, it would look a lot like the ACC's negotiations did with BC/Miami/etc back in the day, albeit with different carrots.

As for conference sizes, who knows? IMO, the B1G will stop at 18 if UNC/UVA/GT/FSU join. Notre Dame is a non-starter since they've made it clear that -any- league will suffice for their non-football sports to be in as long as the football program is independent.

YMMV.

If all this is true I think ND would become a full member before it allows the ACC to implored

Just got my first bit of "inside" information on this subject. According to my source, someone in the admin at Wisconsin stated there will be a presser next week and Carolina and Ga. Tech will be joining the BIG, as they have accepted the offers. I live in WI, and the source is someone in my soon-to-be family, so I trust this information.

This sounds like the rumors, except UVA is the normal choice to go with GT, not UNC.

ShadowSpawne, I wish I knew why you were so confident that UNC won't go BIG10 if the opportunity/need should arise. There are obviously alot of UNC academic types that would love to affiliate themselves with the BIG10 academic types.

Please do not think I am bashing you. I was just razzing you. :)

That all stems from the non-stop nonsense from that butthurt hillbilly, The Dud(e). No other so-called 'insider' was more wrong, more often, than that loser.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I am not confirming or denying anything, just passing this information along. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong for the rest of our fan base, but selfishly, I would love for Carolina to come to Madison every once in a while. I haven't seen Carolina in person since 2010.

Fair enough. And, thanks for not taking my smart remark as an insult. It certainly was not meant to be one.
