Help from Louisville
About a month ago a fan came over to our site and mentioned a small city in North Carolina he suggested we visit on our way to Chapel Hill. I can't remember the name of the city and want to take a visit sometime this summer if you all can help me. He mentioned there was great food and culture.
Thanks!

Re: Help from Louisville
Coming from Louisville I would guess Asheville but along 40 you have numerous options. The mountains and Piedmont of NC offer amazing options. And if golf is your thing Pinehurst is an hour from Chapel Hill

Literally all of you have said different cities! Thanks for the help. None of these are ringing a bell but it could have been Ashville.

Ya see, I knew on this board, somebody would think "Shelby". If I had posted this on the ZZL, for example, everybody would get it.

Grew up in Salisbury, still here. Know plenty of North Rowan people. Did you know they named a street in East Spencer for Carl Torbush while he was Tar Heel football coach?

RE: Help from Louisville
Everyone who drives from Kentucky to Chapel Hill will come down I-74 to US 52 to I-40. If your into Andy Griffith (or the small town-downtown theme), Mount Airy is by this route. They have some neat little downtown places. Then you have Pilot Mountain, but I'm not sure what you would do there, except go to the state park. Same for King or Rural Hall. Then you hit the big cities of Winston-Greensboro-Burlington. So I don't think they fit the small town question that you asked. Kernersville is right in b/w Winston and Greensboro. That might have been an option. Past Burlington is Mebane, but I don't consider that a town. So my best guess would be Mount Airy. They have a famous diner called Snappy Lunch. Their main item is the Pork Chop sandwich. First time I heard of it was from a New Yorker. Its a big, fried pork chop with slaw (white), chili, tomato, and onion. Its good, but if you are having health problems, there is a hospital nearby. B/c that sandwich will clog an artery. www.thesnappylunch.com/menu.php

OK this has gone far enough. Next thing you know you will be telling him to stay in the campground behind there. Cue the banjo

Yep; 2 - 3 blocks from the Post Office! I'm thinking about taking all the signs down and selling them at the local scrap metal yard.......the Torbush era is just too painful to bear the memories when I return home.

RE: Help from Louisville
I think you should visit Raleigh. Go to NC State, tour the campus, meet with some of the students and fans.
That way you will have a greater appreciation for Chapel Hill, and UNC. You can laugh at them with the rest of the ACC.
