Carolina should honor Gio at halftime Saturday
Recommended on the basketball board by TooFarFromChapelHill. I love it. Sometimes it's okay to rub salt in wounds.

Tar Heel Unlimited award. I don't care. Anything to show the return with the woofies in the building.

Re: Carolina should honor Gio at halftime Saturday
I loved Gio the same as everyone else, but a big trade off for going pro early is losing almost any chance of real recognition for having been (briefly) a college star.
Perhaps Carolina could name him the MVP of the Coastal Division Championship team??! :-)

We should honor the entire football team. If we are winning with a few seconds left, we can chant Gio.

The entire team makes sense and maybe showing the run back on the big screen would be genius. Heck, have a few football recruits in this week also.

Honor? We should have a Coastal Division Champs PARADE down Franklin then to the Dome. Have a highlight reel ending with Gio's punt return with Jones' call.
Only downside is all the guys in Indy for the combine won't be there.
But what a change in attitude ANY kind of recognition would signal. No more Thorp apologies.
BTW, didja catch the U's response to the NCAA's charges? Shalala said, "We're sorry for the mistakes, but we've suffered enough." BOO-YAH!

Unfurl an oversized banner. Flash it on the screens! Send subliminal messages that say "Wuffies, pull the trigger!"

Um...unless he's going to remote in from the NFL Combine this weekend, I'm fine with him not showing up.
But it would be a very nice sentiment.

I was going to mention that Gio has an important job interview this weekend. He can't make it to CH.

This is a great idea. We need to keep the 'Local' players at home & would be a tremendous recruiting tool>

I'm in my upper 40's. When you get a little older, and you've watched more college football, you'll start to get a better sense of these things. I wasn't stating any personal opinion of mine. It's just the way this stuff goes traditionally.

Re: Carolina should honor Gio at halftime Saturday
sorry, being in your upper 40's is not an excuse for writing things that make no sense.
Gio was a bona fide college star this past season. if you didn't realize that, then you weren't paying very close attention.
the kid got a lot of press and was even on a few Heisman lists. he is also a bona fide legend to UNC football fans. going to the NFL now changes none of that.
try again.

I am hoping for a very close game. At the end McAdoo intercepts a pass and streaks down the court for a dunk. Then everyone starts yelling Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo, Gio McAdoo

Shoot the messenger all you want, but you won't be able to change the facts. Besides that, you need to reread my posts. You seem to have convinced yourself that I've said something negative about Gio's play, and nothing could be further from the truth.
Gio was a good player for Carolina last year, and an AWESOME player this year. He achieved a certain level of notoriety for his play. But unfortunately, it ends there. He won't even ever be on UNC's ring of honor in Kenan. And just so you'll know, they don't ask me for any input on that.

Re: Carolina should honor Gio at halftime Saturday
i've read your posts carefully. your initial post said that because he left for the NFL early, he lost "almost any chance of real recognition for having been (briefly) a college star."
that is just plain wrong. he got plenty of "real recognition" for last year. he was on heisman lists, came in 2nd in ACC player of the year voting (lost by 1 vote), won plenty of player of the week awards and other accolades, and is poised to be a early round NFL draft pick (1st or 2nd). YOUR definition of "real recognition" is the UNC ring of honor. that is not how everyone else that isn't butthurt over him leaving UNC 1 year earlier than expected would define as real recognition.
nothing you can write now will change the fact that you came onto a positive thread about Gio (saying we should honor him at halftime on Sat to yank the chains of the woofies) and took a swipe at the kid, saying he lost his chance for real recognition. You can't handle that he did what was smart for him (go the NFL and avoided the Lattimore situation). you wanted him to stay in college so he could get, in YOUR opinion, what would be "real recognition." that is beyond dumb. it is selfish and pathetic.

I'm tired of arguing it with you. I pulled hard for Gio. I support his decision to go pro early. And I will pull hard for him to be a star in the NFL. You can keep using your imagination to put words in my mouth, but we're never going to get anywhere that way.
Go Gio! Have a great NFL career!

Are Rowan and Martin still alive? I think we should invite the whole country to join us for a huge halftime Laugh-In at the expense of NC State. Heck, at least invite Goldie Hawn.

I had the opportunity to go to the UNC vs State Game in basketball last night and they showed the highlight of Gio returning the punt return. Crowd went wild(as wild as the entire game went as well lol) I dont recall when they played the highlight.. idk if it was during a TV timeout or what.

Looks like the good folks at Carolina New Media listen to and read IC after all, heard the place went bonkers when they showed the Gio return at the 1st TV time out. Wish they would've kept showing it at various points in the game, would've been a real sticking point for the Raleigh papers in the area.
