Could get real ugly before it's all over. Do you think Coach K comments had anything to do with this lawsuit being decline?

I would imagine they will strike some sort of deal ultimately...but this is certainly a fortunate day for the ACC Office.

I still cannot, for the life of me, understand why Maryland thinks they should not have to pay this exit fee....?

This is a contract case involving willing partners in a North Crolina Corporation. Maryland is DOA. For 50 years they consented to NC jurisdiction for ACC purposes. They will go down in flames. MOve along.

When Coach K said "It must not be a rivalry if Maryland is leaving the ACC when Duke lost to Maryland".

He said much more than that, basically said dook would never schedule Maryland again and that dook would be just fine without them. Pretty much dissed Maryland for about 5 minutes, can tell he was pissed and is quite worried about dook having a stable conference to stay in.

This has nothing to do with him being worried about a stable conference. This is like your brother turning his back on you. Maryland was in the conference for 60 years and threw it all away for a quick buck. The historian coaches have no patience for realignment because it destroys rivalries.

Yall is exactly right. Rat could care less about losing to Maryland or the stability of the ACC; the league loses Maryland but gains Louisville, Syracuse, AND Pitt...all of which are pretty decent basketball schools (at worst) and certainly more than offset Maryland's departure.

K is correct in feeling betrayed by Maryland, however, as I'm sure a lot of the conference-lifers are. Maryland was an original member, had been in the ACC for 60 years, and its entire identity as an athletic department (until now) has been associated with the ACC. With their mountain of debt and mismanaged athletic department, now they're forced to make a wildly unpopular decision with ALL of their former and current student-athletes in an attempt to stay solvent instead of actually addressing the problems the right way.

That mismanagement is going to cost Maryland every cent of that $52M buyout thanks to this decision by Judge Craig, and the opinions of a few administrators cost the school their identity and integrity for the foreseeable future.
