It was terrible the way he went around apologizing for my school instead of defending it. Glad as heck to see him go!

Re: Thorp will be Provost at Washington University in St. Louis
Thorp's reputation fell victim to slanderous reporting on the part of partial Raleigh media outlets directing their stories to a certain fan base. Unfortunately, I think he his judged too harshly on this board.
Cunningham and Fedora were hired under Thorp's watch. It's too early to judge Thorp's legacy until we see how these hires pan out.

He simply was not qualified for the job. Think he has been judge fairly. --------------------------------------------- --- heels1982 wrote:

RE: Thorp will be Provost at Washington University in St. Louis
I don't know if it was so much the N&O and other media, 1982, as Thorp hurting himself. By that I mean in the way he handled himself publicly. From the initial news conference about the NCAA investigation and how we would bend over forward to help them out through the disastrous news event when the academic prong of the investigation was announced and finally topping both of those showings with his news conference announcing Butch's firing after all of those months "standing behind him". He was a PR disaster waiting to happen, unfortunately.

He is also, still, the only UNC official to have committed an NCAA violation related to the football team.

Re: Thorp will be Provost at Washington University in St. Louis
He was certainly greener than I would have liked when he was hired, but the fact that he was targeted for the job of provost at one of the premier research institutions in the world demonstrates his strengths.
He'll do very well at WashU. Thorp is capable, just not particularly adept at dealing with the full spectrum of constituencies at an institution like Carolina. I predict he'll be a chancellor again, and it will be somewhere with an academic reputation every bit as impressive as Carolina's. However, he'll never be an administrator again somewhere with a top ten division I athletic department.

Good riddance.
His tenure brought a deep stain to UNC. The BOT should have cleaned house a long time ago.

You are right. A decisive leader would have fired Butch much sooner. --------------------------------------------- --- Dutydog wrote:

Not a popular view on here, but best wishes to Holden Thorp. He, like Matt Doherty, is still one of our own.

Re: Thorp will be Provost at Washington University in St. Louis
No mention of academic impropriety in the press release from Washington U. "Higher education" is a mutual appreciation society where political correctness and image prevail, with truth and character being the victims thereof. Thorp may be a great academician, but a leader he is not.

Re: Thorp will be Provost at Washington University in St. Louis
Probably had something to do with his top notch academic accomplishments. I did not care for the way he handled the NCAA investigation, but as an intellectual and scholar in his field of study he is as bright as the come.

Firing Butch sooner would have been better than firing him a week before the season started.

Awww, look at the cute little BB only tool who dropped by to cry about those mean old football fans picking on his favorite nerd.
Too bad you can't figure out his weakness would have damaged the BB program as well.

Any captain can steer a ship through calm waters. It's the good captains that can take the helm in troubled waters. When UNC's waters got slightly turbulent Thorp steered the ship into the rocks, Blamed the 1st mates, and then abandoned ship.
Fu%& Holden Thorp.

Re: Thorp will be Provost at Washington University in St. Louis
I love me some Tar Heel basketball, and I got to brush up on my Tar Heel football. I did a quick Google search to learn about UNC football. Luckily, the N&O had a ton of good information. Here some of the things I learned
Until today I thought a Fedora was a type of hat. I didn't even realize he was the head coach of UNC football. What ever happened to Coach Crum?
That Giovanni Bernard kid is fast. I just saw his punt return against NCSU posted on YouTube. Where did UNC recruit him from? Brooklyn? I can't wait for next season. I have a nickname for him. We should call him the Italian Stallion.
That Ben Renner has a nice arm on him.
I can't wait until we play USC this upcoming season. Los Angeles is so cool.
OMG, I am so excited about UNC football now!
