Re: The future of VT football (long)

Come on Cornbread I know you know better than that. While I'm sure most UNC fans would like to see VT drop a few rungs on the ladder it would be like me saying that UNC basketball is dead just because of the way they are playing this year. Beamer has been slow to change in the minds of a lot of Hokies but he has finally made long overdue changes in his staff. As I said before there won't be a Bowden or Paterno scenario when Frank's contract expires. Frank is looking forward to playing golf when he wants.

VT football is not at all like UNC basketball. In bb, you are back from a crappy season with a single 3-man recruiting class and UNC will be awfully difficult to ever go any significant amount of time out of the national stage in bb due to its brand and tendency to recruit itself. VT football is not anywhere close to the same deal Plus, the Heels have had several bad seasons in the last decade including two in the Roy era.
FWIW and for the thir time, I don't think VT football is dead. I just think there is a good chance that they may have defined a new performance standard and the days of consistent 7 win seasons could be replaced with consistent 4/5 win seasons based on what we saw last year and the likely difficulty that you can see coming a mile away when Beamer and the admin have a disagreement about path forward.
Would I like to see VT drop a few rungs? Sure. Perhapsmtheynalready have? But it doesn't just have to do with giving UNC an easier path to the Coastal championship. It also has to do with allowing someone else (ANYONE) a chance to win big BCS games...an area where VT has failed miserably (reference my comments on the fact that VT has now been a regional power for a decade, but has been unable to become a national title threat). I understand that VT has earned to be in those BCS bowls that they lost, but they have done the ACC precious few favors. Losing to James Madison and ECU and then going undefeated in the league. How does that happen?!?
