From the film I've seen on Khris Francis, he has a very similar running style.

He does look like a beast on film. Has UNC Football ever been as talent rich in the RB, QB departments?

Yes for running backs for sure. Amos and Kelvin, Johnson and Johnson along with NM just off the top of my head.

I don't look for us to be able to replace Gio with a single player, that's impossible. However, that's not to say we won't be as good or even better offensively this year. Bryn will be a beast this year, and I would look for us to throw it more, especially early on, than we did.last year. We still have a ton of talent in our running game, but our experience is in our passing game.

I think that Romar looked pretty darn good. Blue is a stud. Freshmen coming all are great athletes. The running back position looks like the least of our worries. Now db's...... that's another story.

You can fill his spot and get someone to give similar production, but you don't replace talent like Gio.

Yes, but it will take a group effort.

Blue ain't been 225 for a while. He played at 215 last year and wants to be 210 by the end of Spring practice this year. Fed told himi to get lean and the man is listening.

You can collectively replace his talent and production. But nobody can replace his clutch gene and will to win.

Gio was not under the radar. he got hurt. everyone knew he could play. we however stayed after him.
WTBS, no we cannot replace Gio. I do however think that we have a great bunch of young men at the RB position. Romar with more chances this year could be blue lightning. also you never know about the incoming freshmen, they look impressive for sure.

I hope so. Lining up with no tailback would seem to be a distinct disadvantage.

Difficult to replace his Heart! A very special player indeed!

Exactly, he was one of a kind. UNC looks good at the RB position, but you can never "replace" Gio.

Romar put up 5.6 yds per carry last year going for about 400 yds total. He ain't Gio, but he ain't chopped liver neither!

Romar tends to go down a little easier than Gio, but in the open field I believe he is even more elusive and a little faster. Plus, he and Tre made the key blocks on Gio's punt return. If you watch the video he is literally over there waving his hand frantically for Gio to follow him and then he leads him down the sideline.

Later in the season I think Romar was running behind his blockers and reading the openings more often. Looked to me like he was learning a little something from Gio. I think he's going to have a really good season this fall.

If you've ever seen T.J. Logan play, then the answer is yes, Gio can be replaced. Gio is, and always will be, a Tar Heel legend, but I'm telling you right now, T.J. Logan is a gift from the heavens. The young man is unreal.

I'm a huge Logan fan but you guys are sleeping on Morris bigtime. He plays exactly like Percy Harbin. Logan is more of a Reggie Bush kind of talent but Morris is tough in-between the tackles. I'm expecting a huge season from him and Logan

RE: Can the North Carolina Tar Heels Replace Gio Bernard?

We can certainly replace his numbers, but his will and desire to win will be what we miss initially and have the hardest time replacing. However, after saying that, I firmly believe that what we have here now isn't the occasional splash or phenom at the RB posistion, but we now have something that we haven't had in a "LONG" time, a system in place that works! Gio is great and I know that running backs of his caliber would suceed irregardless, but with Fedora's spread offense now firmly in place, I believe that we will be fine. We have more than sufficient talent to fill Gio's position (Romar, Blue, Riley, Logan, and Francis), but it will be Fedora's system that suceeds in the long run and not the individual.
