Kudos to the staff for making our program more accessible to more high school prospects.

North Carolina is the Tar Heel State!

Our dance squads should make sure they are practicing on the sidelines too.

This sounds cool --- I would expect the NCAA to ban it

Re: Spring Practices in Charlotte & Greensboro

It is totally legit. If held inside your own state there are no restrictions. If you go outside your state it must be within 100 miles of campus (not the state border). Fed, as So Miss, used to cross over into the FL panhandle for one practice a year to get in front of FL recruits.

Brilliant, I say, brilliant!

I think we did this once last year in the Charlotte area. It would also be a good idea to do one somewhere to the east, maybe Wilmington or Jacksonville area.

Brilliant marketing plan.... We are surely using the School of Business model to show off our Business School model for those recruits who want to go into Business.

Can't go to SC, there is no point in SC that is within 100 miles of CH.

ETA: Mccoll, SC is 98.7 miles from CH according to iPhone map app

Re: Spring Practices in Charlotte & Greensboro

Even more brilliant would be to convince land-owning alumni or fans across the country to donate football field sized plots to the school. Alumni/fans get tax deductible donation while the team gets statewide (or nationwide) exposure practicing at different locations.

The only downside is that we might have to copy State and have a Turf Management Major to legitimize the validity of the land being campus owned.

The best allowable location in Va is probably Hargrave Military Academy, 20 miles north of Danville.

I went to the Charlotte practice. It thunderstormed so bad that day that they cancelled the practice, but players and coaches went inside and signed autographs.

Southern Lynchburg is 100 miles from Chapel Hill (Liberty University's stadium is exactly 100 miles from Kenan Stadium), so that would give you an idea of how far you can go to the NNW. And 100 miles gets you to Emporia to the ENE (Greenesville County HS's stadium is 98 miles from Kenan), for example. The circle includes such places as South Hill, Blackstone, Appomattox, Hampden Sydney, Danville, Crewe and Martinsville and points in between.

The question should be "how long before moo u complains to the NCAA about us doing this?"

Re: Spring Practices in Charlotte & Greensboro

My wife asked who we are recruiting at those two schools. I couldn't give her an answer.

Mallard Creek is obviously a make-up game for the one weathered out last year, but is there anyone on their team that's a prospect?

Grimsley - to the best of my knowledge - doesn't have anyone on our list.

Feel free to educate and correct me!

A practice in western north carolina would be nice somewhere around Asheville-Hendersonville area.

Re: Spring Practices in Charlotte & Greensboro

In greensboro we like Chris Register, who is a good LB/Bandit, and Lorenzo Featherstone who's a tall skinny defensive end type

Register is probably the defensive prospect in the state this year, and Featherstone is an undersized guy who could fill out into a quality player. Register is the one I really want the most this year in-state on defense; he is a prototypical Bandit.

Re: Spring Practices in Charlotte & Greensboro

Is there a trade off for doing a practice off campus (1 off campus equals 2 on campus)? I thought I heard something of that sort from last trip's to Charlotte.

I think you have to put one in the Charlotte area every year. Then rotate some of the other ideas already listed depending on top recruits; Greensboro, Asheville/Morganton/Hickory Area, Rockingham/Fayetteville (get some SC coverage), Wilmington/New Bern.

To hit a prime area that would not meet the 100 mile rule for out of state, try Moyock Middle School.... Off the wall but would open exposure to the Tidewater VA recruits. One of the Elizabeth City (Camden or Currituck) High Schools would have better facilities but you add an extra 30 mins or so to the drive.

Danville, VA is definitely within 100 miles of Chapel Hill. It would be great to have a practice there.

No -- I'm saying it is such a good idea that I would expect the NCAA to ban it, not that we are pushing the limits on anything. I could see the NCAA viewing this with other such outrageous behavior as sleeping on a friend's sofa

Out of state, but I guess it's within 100 miles, if you're measuring geographically
