UNC Hiring West

Ron West will fill the final vacancy on the UNC football coaching staff, multiple sources confirm. West spent 2012 as the co-defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Arizona State. An official announcement from UNC is expected later this month.

Looks like Coach Fedora is aggressively trying to fix our "Defensive" problems!

Go Coach Fedora!

Go Tar Heels!

We had two coaches leave not like he had a choice replacing them. But thank goodness they left major upgrades at both positions

Looks like Vic had alot of influence on these hires. Fedora is trusting him to get the D fixed.

Coach Vic has had some really good Defenses previously.
Can't wait to see improvement.

I hope he can have a good defense here, but last year's performance on D didn't leave me with a lot of confidence in VK. I hope these 2 new hires make a huge differnce.

Last years issues were not just coaching. Problems were new scheme, lack of talent, and lack of depth.

Depth. It is everything.

That is how Bowden was so good for so many years. All Americans 3 deep at most positions.

If you win, they will come.

If you are in the SEC,they may come faster

Very good hire. The proof is in the play but both new hires look as good or better than those who departed.

Lack of depth was a major problem and will be next year.

The new hires certainly do appear to be upgrades. Was the transition just dumb luck? I tend to doubt it.

Re: UNC Hiring West

With the right coaches in place and more of Fedora's recruits on the field, it is with guarded optimism that I believe we will equal or better our record from last year and may contend for our division title.

So far, Fedora has made good choices and when one takes into account the quality although limited number of signees for this year, he seems to be on the right track and if he stays, UNC football may become a team to watch out for and maybe challenge some of the powerhouse programs.

Hard to argue against his success so far.

exactly. Sly and K.Redding will not be easy to replace. also, lack of depth will not be solved with our loss of 5 schollies next 2 years.

Re: UNC Hiring West

Just one more year of reduced scholarships, we started last year, continued this season and will finish it up next. Interestingly, we went under the 20 we were allowed this season, so we may be able to take 2 or 3 players early in January (counting towards this season) and then take a full 20 in February. If it plays out like that, the scholarship reductions are effectively over now. (staff can take 23 next year as long as 3 enroll early)

Those losses will likely show up on the field over the next few seasons though.

Re: UNC Hiring West

Let's hope the upgrade is not just on the resumes but translate to UNC's football practice field and the game field.
