Very heartwarming story. Says a lot about this young man coming to the Hill to represent THE University of North Carolina.

Man, I saw that kid with Ryan at the siging day event and wondered the story. I liked Ryan already as a prospect on the field for us, love him as a person for us all!

Fedora said it... "Quality over quantity" As if being a Tar Heel wasn't enough for me to cheer his success.... NOW I'm certainly hoping nothing but greatness for this young man.

That's awesome. Too bad Scout, Rivals and ESPN don't give stars for character.

Hey Larry you better be careful. Those guys from ncest may get jealous of all the quality young men you are recruiting - Oh yeah warning is a little late.

Just a fantastic piece! Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to share this with my eldest son as a follow-up to Ryan's highlight reel on youtube(which we just watched last night)!

As an aside, I have a new goal for every member of the media: for every story that you dig up regarding academic dishonesty, pay for play, or late-night disorderly conduct by an athlete, you should seek to "dig up" a story like this.

Thanks for the link.Another reason to like this young man.Rare find indeed. I hope his personality is contageous. We need more young people like this in our warped society.Just heard about a waiter who refused to serve some guys who were making fun of a person with down syndrome.Kudos to him too.(I think it was a male waiter.)

Pull for both of these young men going to college and their friend. Says a lot about them and their parents.

You know those members of the media who dedicate their souls to finding fault even if they have to manufacture, use innuendo , or misrepresentation are only revealing the dark worm in their own hearts.
This reflection of their inner most character ,however is not a microcosm of the young men and women in sports in general as proven by Ryan Switzer and his team mates.
