Re: Ryan Switzer injured
Even if he requires surgery, he will be back full speed in 6 months time in time for football season.
Hopefully just a level 1 or 2 sprain.
- Edit -
Not making light of it by any means...but thankfully if it is bad it happened now and not during the summer. I sprained my shoulder last year at this exact same time and after a month and half rest I was ok to start training again and by summer I was back full speed.
So, hang in there Ryan (if you read this by chance)!

Got to get adjusted to the college requirements. It takes time for some.

Depending on severity, a Red Shirt is now in the mind-set.

I've got my doubts about that.

Re: Ryan Switzer injured
Red-shirting a freshman is ALWAYS an option regardless of whether they are injured or not, but going into camp with a shoulder that has been injured would certainly be a factor working against the kid. It's mind boggling to me how some folks are so sure that he would not get red-shirted given what knowledge is out there and what hasn't even happened yet. So many things can happen between now and September. There was a guy on the other thread who was willing to bet $1000 that he would not redshirt. First of all, why would a person make this bet, what is there to be gained? Secondly, do folks not realize that football is a violent game and potential STARTERS are injured and redshirt every season? Happens every season. Last year it was Lipford and Wilkins...the year before it was Ramsay and Josh Adams. The year before Merletti, Gio and AJ Blue. Happens every year...and those are just starters...

Let's just call it an educated guess on my part.

Re: Ryan Switzer injured
My youngest son has non-throwing shoulder surgery around late April/early May of his senior year in high school and was ready to play D-1 football by the second week in September. No problems since. Now his knees thereafter are a different story!
Ryan should be OK. Just needs to make an educated decision quickly as possible as to whether simple rest will fix it or he needs surgery.
I did stay at a Holiday Inn last week.

Re: Ryan Switzer injured
ya, I dont think anyone doubts he can 'play' by Sept., the question is will the on field reps he will miss in Spring and 'maybe July/August' make a RedShirt a possibility?

Re: Ryan Switzer injured
Probably can't bench press, military press, do upright rows, power cleans or arms with a bum shoulder either. Switzer has been given a workout to follow between now and the start of summer practice. He will be able to do the squats and maybe dead lifts, but my guess is that his upper body development will not be able to proceed as the staff would like if his shoulder is compromised. Meanwhile, everyone else (who isn't hurt) will be able to focus on lifting and conditioning. It's not JUST the practice reps. Weight training reps are huge when going from HS to college. WR's are dependent on this training much less than an OL or DL who wants to play right away, but it's still important.

Re: Ryan Switzer injured
Red shirt would be a good idea anyway to gain weight and get stronger. Unless he blows up in practice of course.

Re: Ryan Switzer injured
This "tick bite", "carolina is cursed" paranoia is why everyone should wait until they hear anything official. There are no ticks and there is no curse. Calm down and breathe.
