UVa gets Oregon on short notice, and we get Middle Tennessee State? Bubba needs to do better than that if he wants to fill Kenan.

Perhaps the Ducks didn't want any of LFed...

This, I'm not happy at all with the quality of the OOC games.

That would be a pretty good OOC. Maybe we are waiting to get our quality players and the correct amount of scholarships back straight before we begin having these quality OOC games.

Sure I do more Primetime slots the better the teams we play look at ncsucks last year when they played FSU yes not OOC but primetime and ncs sucks grated they did beat them but thats the only thing they did. but my point is you can be the best without beating the best!

That game will be ugly - not a good showing for the ACC. We'll see just what good toby does to justify his inflated salary. About the only thing useful will be a tenuous comparison for uva's other opponents to a top tier program.

Oregon's first game with a new coach. Sounds like an opportunity to me.

Allegedly, Oregon's response to Fedora's overture to play was "Duck U., buddy!"

Yep, the Ducks could very well lay an egg...or they could lay the wood to UVA like 'THE' USC did a few years back....interesting way to begin the season.

Bingo. Actually, one could argue it's stupid for UVA (or any rebuilding program) to schedule a team like Oregon. Winning and recruiting are what builds a program, so scheduling an exciting OOC LOSS is not very smart.

It would be nice if UNC started regularly beating teams like GT and State before it starts beefing up the schedule with multiple top ten programs.

RE: UVA schedules home and home with Oregon

funny how things go in cycles - Such a schedule was bemoaned when Bunting was here (say what you want about anything else, but he beefed up the OOC scheduling).....

2001 - ECU, SMU, at Oklahoma, at Texas
2002 - Miami OH, Texas, at Syracuse, at Arizona State
2003 - Syracuse, Arizona State, at ECU, at Wisconsin
2004 - William and Mary, Louisville, at Utah
2005 - Wisconsin, Utah, at Louisville

Fans have a tendency to demand top OOC opponents, while assuming that those games are going to be competitive. The Bunting era reminds us of the alternative possibility...

There's a certain rodent over in Durham who refuses to schedule home and away basketball games again tough OOC opponents. I don't think UNC football should emulate that philosophy.

If UNC football can scam them to rank them top five while doing so, they should :-) - Dook in basketball does it, as ________(insert most any SEC team) does in football

For London to schedule a home and home with Organ indicates he must be into S&M. They will abuse the Hoos.

Re: UVA schedules home and home with Oregon

What if I win the lottery? As I said earlier, a rebuilding program needs wins which leads to recruiting. An almost sure loss doesn't help that goal.

We are kinda in the same boat. UNC desperately needs a 9+ win season, yet we are playing SC next season. We got lucky that they're losing a couple of key players and we might be catching them on a rebuilding year, but my guess is UNC will still be the underdog and we don't need moral victories right now. We need wins.

As the other poster noted...it looked great when Bunting had OU, Texas on our schedule until we lost and those losses played a part in less than impressive W/L columns.

Until you become a ranked team and have built a program that can compete against the elites, it's not too smart to schedule an almost assured loss. In fact, until the BCS gives more weight to SOS vs. W/L column, it's smart to play almost assured OOC opponents.

Re: UVA schedules home and home with Oregon

We have folks on theSabre making that argument, too. We also have folks who make the argument that recruits want to play schools they've heard of instead of Eastern Lower Upper Western Montana Teachers' College. I agree with a poster on theSabre that said this was our BCS bowl game because the odds are so long that we'll ever be in one. It would be better to play Oregon and lose, possibly leaving us 5-7, than beat a depleted Penn State go 6-6 and play in something akin to the Potato Bowl in Boise. We're guaranteed to fill Scott, making a very pretty penny. How much would we have to pay for our unsold tickets in Shreveport? The only hope I have for this game is that no one gets hurt.

And, just like the lottery, you've got to play to win. You can't beat Oregon unless you play them. Ask Appy State how that works.

Scott Stadium is a first class venue. IF, and it's a big IF, both Carolina and UVA went to the SEC, UVA is just one great coach and a few years of culture adjustment from being a factor. JMHO. But I'm not sure London is that coach.
