RE: North Eliminates UNC
You also have to wonder if Larry Fedora isn't just a little relieved he's not going to have Ramondo North crawling all over his football program for the next 3+ years. Anyway, if you read articles about North, and other recruits, you often times see them state that North Carolina is recruiting them the hardest. Guys, if we can get maybe 10 wins next year, we will Fedora's going to blow the lid off recruiting wise. --------------------------------------------- --- northernheel wrote: appears he left A&T in 2000. ok, you are excused. I am glad that you can admit that you don't know what the heck you are talking about. many other posters have a hard time doing that. takes a man to admit that he doesn't know what the heck he is talking about.

i just hope the kid is happy once the bright lights, rocky top, big orange wears off & after 2-3 yrs when you're "rebuilding" at UT going 6-6, 7-5.
as for UNC, it's status quo as usual. when it comes to elite talent in NC, I just don't get excited. The only way to change it is WIN and win BIG & consistently. not just the occasional upset or "good win" but be a consistent program & getting to a Orange Bowl. but you must be consistent. also, the fanbase has to dramatically improve. you can't just live off the moniker of "the fans would show up if there's winning" attitude. that's so old & lame to hear from UNC fans. you have to improve the package & product and market it, which the powers-to-be are clueless on in South Bldg and Skipper Bowles Drive. it the entire UNC brand.
Mack Brown was the only UNC coach i've ever trusted to put a fence around NC. i sometimes wonder if Mack was still at UNC, if he could recruit and lockdown NC, the Tidewater area, etc the same way he did back in the day? kids want to be a part of the "best" and right now that's the SEC. so what are you gonna do about? we've gotta up our game and improve our stock/brand or you can sit back and complain as if anyone cares. these kids care more about the bright lights, big stadiums, fans, etc. it's exciting. the same truth about ACC basketball. you want to be a part of the best atmosphere and right now the SEC & its schools brand themselves as such and back it up on the field and in the stadiums. the ACC & UNC doesn't. just a fact. so like i said, what are you gonna do? lie to yourself and avoid the truth? or step up and improve the brand?
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
why is there one in every crowd???...lawd
no i'm no expert. i live here in Dallas and see what real HS football and cfball is about! so excuse me if i don't know what the heck i'm talking about.
as for the UNC AD, funny you should ask, because just a several yrs ago, during the Bunting yrs I believe, IC posted a forum topic on how to improve the gameday atmosphere. i mentioned why doesn't UNC have or bring a state of NC flag when it runs out on the tunnel, along with several gameday suggestions. low in behold...HARK THE SOUND, someone on Skipper Bowles reads this board b/c all of sudden the UNC cheerleaders came running out the tunnel with......the "NC" state flag!
so maybe folks need to learn how to take in & read constructive criticism. i am an alumnus who doesn't see the world through everything Carolina blue & perfect like some folks! smh

Wow, yeah it's kinda interesting to see what the elder North has been doing the past 10 years or so.
Starting to think Tennessee might end up with quite a handful from Dad....
For the record, lurkers....this isn't a case of sour grapes (at least from me, personally)
I thought it was kind of odd how well known Mr. North has become during the recruiting process and now I'm beginning to understand.

when in state players can't decide where they want to go it usually means they are headed out of state. tenn winning this battle isn't a surprise.

Agreed. I quit worrying about North awhile back. If this kid wanted to go to UNC, he wouldn't have taken this long. No sweat, we have some studs coming in, so I'm not worried at all.

hmmm...maybe he should be careful what he wishes for. if he gets major playing time at UT his first year i wonder how well he will do against those SEC defenses, one things for sure, he obviously doesnt care about winning anything because UT has been a bottom feeder in the sec for Yrs....and with a new coach i think they ll stink it up again in the Sec for at least a couple 3 more years

Re: North Eliminates UNC
Disappointed that North didn't pick Carolina, but not a big deal in my opinion. I want players who want to come to Carolina. If he thinks Tennessee is a better spot for him, than he's entitled to that. We have a great recruiting class as is, and with Fedora and Co. at the helm there is no doubt in my mind that we'll start corralling more of these highly ranked NC prospects in the future.

RE: North Eliminates UNC
I think he will get major playing time his Freshman year. I wouldn't be surprised if he started. It certainly didn't hurt UT that our 4 leading receivers will be drafted, 3 WRs 1 TE, with 2 Jr's leaving early. If Patterson wasn't leaving and a first round lock then I think North would be a Heel. Best case scenario is he comes in and plays right away and has a monster impact. Worse case scenario he is immature and isn't ready for the lights. Obviously you guys know where I want him to be and where I expect him to be.
Nibbz,
I guess people could say that any big time recruit that has come to Chapel Hill for the past 30 + years doesn't care about winning either. Besides Mack's tenure when you won 10 games a couple of times what is there to show? I admit the past 2 years for the Vols have been the worst in school history, but to say we are bottom feeders for multiple years is an exaggeration. We won the East most recently in '07 and even got to play in the SEC Title game. Am I satisfied with that? Absolutely not. However, I would rather play against the teams that we do, rather than be .500 or barely above, and maybe make it to the Orange Bowl to get smoked by a Big East school. Of course, I guess he could go to the Sugar Bowl to smoked by a Big East school. You get the idea though.

Re: North Eliminates UNC
He's a very solid recruit but does any freshman wideout really have the potential impact to dramatically change a 1-7 SEC team that lost as much as it gained at WR?
We're all optimistic in February but UT especially needs a turn around year to maintain any kind of balanced reputation with the top guns in the SEC.

Re: North Eliminates UNC
Yup. It appears Tenn may have a Stage Dad. Also , he played in NFL, and went to A&T. So it 'probably' means that he 'wanted' a bigger program out of High School but talent at time or grades prevented that. Then he goes to NFL and hears all about the big college atmosphere from teammates. I can somewhat understand how he could get the 'big time college atmosphere' itch through his son that he never could scratch himself at A&T. Lets just hope its the best thing for his son. He went to NFL via instate A&T. Maybe his son would have done same. Sometimes the HUGE program doesnt always work with every kid. (NFL sees you anywhere) Time will tell :)

RE: North Eliminates UNC
North is a 100% stud that he would get playing time as a true freshman at any of the schools that was on his top 5. Don't hate on a young man when he picks a different school, no class in doing that.

RE: North Eliminates UNC
Maybe he just didn't want to have to pay for tutors.
I don't see why folks are being so harsh on him. It's a tough decision and not every kid will want to go to UNC, unfortunately.
As far as undue influences, I don't know anything about that, but if that was what somebody was going for, his decision was probably in our best interest.
I'm just afraid the types of negative comments I see about players who choose to go elsewhere may turn potential recruits off in some cases. You can't get them all unless you're KY basketball.

Have to feel bad for Abrams Ward. I remember it stung when he didn't come here. Did he graduate? If he did, I imagine it would be harder to get a job in nc if he had a UT degree vs unc degree. But I imagine he would do fine if he wanted to stay in Tennessee.

Hid Dad was afraid of the UNC playing time issue. He wants game film on his kid for NFL and I assume he thinks Tenn offers that sooner. Which also implies he will bolt for NFL as soon as he is eligible.

You people are nuts if you think North wasn't an immediate impact player. He is a remarkable athlete with size and speed. We have gotten few of those types. Its like a broken record around here. Guy chooses another school and suddenly he is a bum and we didn't want him. Please.
