There's only one sweet revenge: win big next season; play in front of a jammed packed Kenan every Saturday and get to a BCS Bowl.

Hate to see a homegrown kid get away, but for whatever reason, he chose to go elsewhere. Good luck Mr. North........hope you don't regret the decision after next Wednesday.

Hope young Mr. North enjoys languishing in SEC irrelevance. UNC will be fine. Amazing how many players fall for the "guaranteed" playing time BS.

RE: North Eliminates UNC
It might be a case that high schools need classes in how NC players do at other places. This kid is a very good player but I don't believe he is a franchise guy. Good luck to him unless he is playing us. Coach I'm sure you guys worked your butts off on this guy but as long as ya'll are here we'll be ok. Hey guys let's take the high road here. He is a high school kid.

Good luck to him. Do we have an offer on the table for Austin or was it basically down to North or a defensive player?

RE: North Eliminates UNC
i just hope the kid is happy once the bright lights, rocky top, big orange wears off & after 2-3 yrs when you're "rebuilding" at UT going 6-6, 7-5.
as for UNC, it's status quo as usual. when it comes to elite talent in NC, I just don't get excited. The only way to change it is WIN and win BIG & consistently. not just the occasional upset or "good win" but be a consistent program & getting to a Orange Bowl. but you must be consistent. also, the fanbase has to dramatically improve. you can't just live off the moniker of "the fans would show up if there's winning" attitude. that's so old & lame to hear from UNC fans. you have to improve the package & product and market it, which the powers-to-be are clueless on in South Bldg and Skipper Bowles Drive. it the entire UNC brand.
Mack Brown was the only UNC coach i've ever trusted to put a fence around NC. i sometimes wonder if Mack was still at UNC, if he could recruit and lockdown NC, the Tidewater area, etc the same way he did back in the day? kids want to be a part of the "best" and right now that's the SEC. so what are you gonna do about? we've gotta up our game and improve our stock/brand or you can sit back and complain as if anyone cares. these kids care more about the bright lights, big stadiums, fans, etc. it's exciting. the same truth about ACC basketball. you want to be a part of the best atmosphere and right now the SEC & its schools brand themselves as such and back it up on the field and in the stadiums. the ACC & UNC doesn't. just a fact. so like i said, what are you gonna do? lie to yourself and avoid the truth? or step up and improve the brand?

That's like saying a top basketball recruit wanted ACC so they pick Boston College.

SEC promises 101: This has 'Gee Coach, I thought I was gonna start from Day One' written all over it.
Followed by "Marquez 'Shorty' North today announced his leaving Tenn. and transferring to a Div II team to be named later to get immediate playing time".
Footnote: Son, you NEVER listen to coaches reference playing time. The ones who promise you immediate playing time are usually liars. The ones who say 'hopefully, but we will see what the competition bears out' are the role model coaches you want to follow. Dont say you werent warned :) Good Luck :)

I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but you have to be careful when someone promises you a certain amount of playing time. Cause now he's going to have to wonder if Jones will be promising some of North's playing time to the next high profile recruit.

his punishment for shunning UNC will be having to wear orange and listening to Rocky Top about 30 times a game. that has to be worse than water torture.

1- WR is not a problem area for us so we were in a position to add strength rather than manage a weakness.
2- The Clowney and Manziel type "difference makers" are few and far between.
3- Let's win 10+ games this year and move on.

Tennessee had one of the best wrs corps in the country this past season, some thought they had the best, but they were definitely top 5. Some call them WR U. --------------------------------------------- --- redhotchiliheel wrote:

Glad he made his decision before NSD, much better for all to decide early. Rather this than the rude bait and switch hat trick some egos find humerus.
Too bad he's going to Tenn.
I wonder if he's thought about being the "go to WR" and what that really means. Just look at Steve Smith and the Panthers. Without other serious threats, the defense will key on him and shut him down.

Not to derail the thread, but how can you harbor ill will towards Golson? He was our first commit. He wanted to be a Tar Heel. He was the one that got shafted.

You obviously have not been to Tennessee. The recruits are blown away by that school. Too bad they had a crappy AD who was responsible for the decline of a national program. If they hadn't fired their coach this year, North may have committed a lot earlier to them.

well it's good to know that the man with all the answers is just a few key strokes away if the UNC athletic dept and UNC administration need him.
have you sent your resume into the UNC athletic dept? I am sure they have been dying to get some input from an expert such as yourself.

why is there one in every crowd???...lawd
no i'm no expert. i live here in Dallas and see what real HS football and cfball is about! so excuse me if i don't know what the heck i'm talking about.
as for the UNC AD, funny you should ask, because just a several yrs ago, during the Bunting yrs I believe, IC posted a forum topic on how to improve the gameday atmosphere. i mentioned why doesn't UNC have or bring a state of NC flag when it runs out on the tunnel, along with several gameday suggestions. low in behold...HARK THE SOUND, someone on Skipper Bowles reads this board b/c all of sudden the UNC cheerleaders came running out the tunnel with......the "NC" state flag!
so maybe folks need to learn how to take in & read constructive criticism. i am an alumnus who doesn't see the world through everything Carolina blue & perfect like some folks! smh

Ugh.. will be note worthy to see what the circumstances that caused him not to select UNC. We have all see this problem over last few years or so.... losing top instate talent to the SEC , Big Ten others etc. Hard enough to compete with all the other ACC instate schools and Clemson-South Carolina raid to take good talent .
Oh well got to move on .... other blue chippers out there for Coach Fedor to land and he will do so ! I am sure on National Signing Day we will see lots of hats on tables and last minute switches .
I see the BMW plant down here in the upstate is working extra shifts to help certain schools supply top talent with new SLEDS & RIDES on National Signing Day !
See 30/30 "Son what is it going to take for you to return to school for your soph year................ "a double wide would be nice coach for my mom " ! Your wish is granted !
