It's amazing the responses of what are considered to be adults in response to a teenager deciding on the college he wants to attend. We can't miss anything that we never had. Still look forward to spending Saturday afternoons this fall in Kenan.

Re: North Eliminates UNC
I have been following his recruitment, playing time and competition is one of the reasons he eliminated Clemson. I think that is the #1 factor he choose Tennessee. He feels he can walk in and be the man in Knoxville, where as at Carolina he might feel he is going to be in Q. Davis shadow at least for the next two years. I think the two of them together would have been an awesome duo. Time to move on, I wish him the best.

There is nothing unadult by any of this. The kid is ranked high yet he is scared of competition. Theres a reason why USC,Bama,LSU Texas and others dont recruit kids like that. Who wants a kid that doesnt think highly enough of himself that hes afraid to compete. That doesnt scream NFL material to anyone. God knows if you dont compete there you dont play.

I think Howard and JF will blow people away. You don't put up numbers like they did and be just average players. I think with them and Switzer, we won't miss him

RE: North Eliminates UNC
Its the best thing for both schools. We need defensive help most of all and with limited scholarships we were in a hole. He was never going to start here next year. He probably would not have started until his junior year at best. That isn't what he wanted and by then we will have recruited over him. At Tennessee he will have a shot to start by his sophomore year. He will be able to work with whomever they get at quarterback after his redshirt year and still have 4 years to play.
North is a good player but you are on crack if you think he was ever going to beat out Quin, Ebron or Switzer. We held out a ship for him for political not athletic or team reasons. We got off light. Good luck to him in the future.

Huh? One site has him as the #2 WR recruit in the country. Just cause he's not going here doesn't mean we didn't really want him. I also bet he would've played a ton here as a true freshman, just as he will at Tenn. The kid is raw but he has all the physical tools to be an NFL WR.

Re: Marquez North commits to Tennessee
This does not suck. Kid and his Dad decided he wanted to go to Knoxville, TN to play football. That is his choice. He was concerned that the Heels had too much depth and talent for him to shine. That is his choice. He and his Dad decided to sit him out of the playoffs this year so that he would be ready for his college career. That is his choice. Give me Logan, Switzer, Filly, Howard, and we will move on. That is my choice.

Want to bet? Under the right conditions he will be a very good receiver but objectively he went to the place where he will have the best chance. There is too much competition at Carolina and he did the right thing for himself. That is smart. It helps us because we need defensive help much more.

Good luck to him. I am surprised that such a big-time recruit is competition-averse. If I am the best of the best, playing time is not a determining factor in my recruitment--I go wherever I feel comfortable and tell everyone to get out of the way. Hopefully, for his sake, he just felt more comfortable at Tennessee.

Re: North Eliminates UNC
We will have
Q. Davis S. Tapley TJ Thorpe R. Wilkins E. Ebron
Dont know how good
K. Singleton D. Washington K. Davis
Are gonna be
and we are getting in
J. Fieullateu R. Switzer J. Howard
To anyone saying North wouldve come in and seen starting time need to check who we already have. Just because he a highly ranked WR coming out of high school doesnt mean he would come in and be the next big thing.
I wish we wouldve got him as well, but regardless, we are still going to have one of the best WR core in the ACC if not the country.

Re: North Eliminates UNC
When I look back on my decision making abilities as an 18-yr-old, I just shudder and think that It was largely through pure luck that I ended up at UNC. In any event, i hope Mr. North will enjoy his time at Tennessee as much as I loved my time in Chapel Hill. By the way, I read somewhere that he really likes the law school at Tennessee. For various reasons, I hope that was not a serious factor in his decision to go to UT.

RE: North Eliminates UNC
He would've arguably been our top recruit, and you're talking about how he couldn't beat Switzer out? Hell they don't even play the same position really. With as many WRs as we play he would've seen the field a lot next year. We were playing walk-ons this past year. The kid is 6-3, 220 and runs a 4.4. There is absolutely no reason to say "he would not have started until his junior year at best." That's asinine.

RE: North Eliminates UNC
Exactly what I was thinking, I mean when has an elite prospect from Charlotte or anywhere in NC left for an SEC school or football school and not gone to UNC? Oh wait..
I guess we are just better at cheating than you guys. Pretty impressive for a bunch of Tennessee grads that have a degree that doesn't hold a candle to a UNC diploma.
Honestly, I came on here tonight to say that I enjoyed discussing his recruitment with some of you recently and wanted to wish you the best of luck with NSD and to say that Fedora is a good coach and I'm expecting big things from UNC while he is your coach.

Things like this are why we need to ditch our floundering conference and join the SEC. We are giving up an easy recruiting advantage by being in the also-ran ACC.

Re: Marquez North commits to Tennessee
While I truly wish North had chosen to attend Carolina, and play Tar Heel Football, I hope he's made the decision he feels is best for himself and his family. However, how someone playing wide receiver, being actively recruited by Carolina, with an opportunity to be coached by Coach Brewer, then selecting a different school, is in and of itself, reason enough to question how bright the people around him are, and how little they actually know about college football.

Re: North Eliminates UNC
Guys we have to get our heads out of our a$$es! The days of going to school for the education are comming to a end. 50% of todays college athletes dont care where there degree comes from he just wants to play college football. And the players that have nfl all over them which is about 25% of the 50% want to play in front of large crowds and against the best competition in the country!! And untill we beef up our ooc schedule and fill kenan every sat we are always gonna be behind the curve in recruiting . Out of all the NC kids at the top of the list we got 1-2 out of top 10 in the state... Has to be a fail for recuriting this yr .. Yes we do have a top 30 class by the end of signing day but coach fed wants to build a fence around the state of NC if i remember correctly..
Go Heels!!!!!!!!!!

The more I read, the more it appears he wants things handed to him, or something went on behind the scenes (not saying $, just maybe bending the truth or polishing something).
Anyway, we need DT much more than WR with our one scholarship.
