I was bored and went over to the lil carolina board see what was going on there alot of realinement talk here and there. Opened up and Bam hate after hate on UNC. Just wondering Why so much hate is it the lil brother thing like ncsucks has. I mean I'm not old enough to remember lil carolina in the ACC. I do live in SC and know alot of C@Cks but alot more hate on the board then in person..

I do remember them a little and their was some hate way back then. Guess it is resurfacing. It may have something to do with us belittling them saying thing like lil carolina. So obviously keep doing it. We might also try things like seeing if the ncest things like inbred, red headed step children works with them too.

I've always preferred the notion that we're "Carolina". They're "North Georgia".

For many Tar Heel fans, South Carolina is only a Baseball competitor until the past few years.

They once were ACC members and were a similar rival as compared to NCSU. Their fanbases are quite similar (They win one game & they own the world mentality).
Both are owned by UNC in all sports in all-time W-L records.
Both are really like jealous cousins who care more about you doing poorly than themselves doing well.

Dook has recently been our main rival, but both NCSU & USuCk are trying to regain some standing in college sports.

Do expect a very similar welcoming in Columbia as you receive in Raleigh

It is astonishing, the number of people in Charlotte metro area, who are USCe football fans, and UNC basketball fans.

Really sorta Northeast Georgia to be truthful.

They have been known as Baja Carolina at least since 1979. I always pull for Clemson unless we are playing them because the chickens are a vile breed of short bus kids just like the aggies. I had friends(they were a lot of fun) who were declined at UGA in state in the late 70s but got in Baja Carolina, Wrap your brain about that!

I look forward to a renewed rivalry with Columbia Community College.

Can honestly say as a student at South Carolina no one gives a rats a** about UNC football right now as we never play you and at this point there is a huge gap in talent that does not have us too worried about week one next year. Maybe in a couple years if Fedora sticks around, but thats a pretty big if. And as someone who grew up in Raleigh as a state fan I can also tell you that I wouldn't worry about getting the same reaction as you would in Raleigh, this is not looked at as a rivalry where people want to get into it with the other fan bases, thats what UGA and Clemson are for, especially since no one feels particularly threatened in this game.

First off, I'm no fan of South Carolina, but I hold no particularly high level of dislike. You gotta understand, I'm a pretty militant Tar Heel fan. I have no second favorite team. I love Carolina, hate everyone else, and particulary despise the wuffies. That being said, if this conference thing shakes out a certain way, and we wind up in the sec, I very much look forward to calling South Carolina our new main football rival. I think Steve Spurrier has them firmly entrenched in the top ten right now, and I believe Coach Fedora can have us there in a season or two.

I'm old enough that the rivalry we had with South Carolina while they were still a part of the ACC is still fresh in my mind. Our last football game with the Gamecocks came down to the final play, and though SC may have more talent, it is a game that they had better not overlook. Lets not forget that many on their team were recruited by both schools. Keep it up TOMICK. This is what rivalries are made of. I remember a time before Spurrier that people were saying not even god could bring that program around, so they went out and hired the next best thing.

I hope Soft Carolina doesnt think about us at all until the 4th quarter in game 1

To be fair, I like Columbia. It's much better than people say. And the campus is also OK, especially the Horseshoe, which reminds me of Athens (GA, not Greece). As many of you know, their Honors College at SCar offered my son a nice scholarship package and we strongly considered it. The Honors College there is rated the best in the country, and after two tours, I can see why. Of course, overall that school ain't Carolina, and Junior became a third generation Tar Heel. None of us regret that decision.

If I go next August, I have a whole list of people I'd like to tailgate with in Cola. Some of them wear garnet and black, others heavenly blue and white. All of them have been MOST hospitable to my family.

I'm old enough to remember seeing SCar's ONLY conference champion EVER in football, ACC champs in 1969, and that 7-4 team took advantage of the fact that Dooley hadn't been on the Hill long enough to complete the rebuild. We had bad blood with SCar, and they were definitely a rival.

^Speaking of rivals, Clemson of course was always their #1, but I'd say in their ACC days we were their second rival. We were at the top of dook's, Wake's, State's, and ECU's football hate list, and at least second at UVA and Scar, and probably Maryland, too.

Honestly, there aren't many folks who place the same winning emphasis "in all sports". Bragging about soccer, lacrosse or even basketball will get you a SO-What look in most Southern states below NC.

Next year is about football and not academics or any of the rest.

Message boards make up a small % of any fanbase. Heels have been knd enough to allow me to visit and reply here. Older fans like myself remember the rivary. But SC fans 35, maybe even 40 and under really don't get it. UGA, Fla. Clem., they get. I hear all the lil Carolna stuff, like here they call yal'l goats and not Carolina. Kinda like my daddy can beat your daddy up stuff you did when you were 9. I hope you're treated well. But if not maybe you guys can cut back on the holier than thou a little. It's just not SC that spews hate for UNC. ABCers you call them. Maybe they have a reason. Please enjoy the game, you will be impressed by the statium with what has been done since your last visit. About the time Sherman came through.

My brother-in-law is a c@ck fan so he bought my daughter a cheerleader doll with the gamecocks outfit...I sold it on ebay. I never even think about their team until we visit them. I do get some strange looks when I go Lexington with my Heels shirt on but noone has ever said anything out of line.

I hold two degrees from UNC, taught at USCar for 25 years, still have season football tickets there, and have lived in Cola. for 27 years now...but I am still a Tar Heel through and through. I believe the hatred (and for many SCar fans it is pure hatred) goes back to when SCar was in the ACC. They felt that UNC kept a change in conference admissions requirements from occurring and so they left the conference. It seems one or two years later the ACC did make the change but SCar was now gone. Also, UNC (as well as other ACC schools) didn't take kindly to the Ribock, Riker, and Roche basketball years for several reasons including dirty play. Anyone else remember the big fight they had with Lefty and Maryland? Finally, I believe that South Carolinians believe that North Carolina (the state) is full of arrogance and this is manifested especially by UNC alumni.

I have football tickets at SCar because I like to see good football and they have it now. But while I am in the stands I am silently cheering against them. I believe that you will be treated well next August in Columbia (great tailgating) as there are a lot of really good people down here and that's the reason I have raised a family here. But if you act like a jerk they will treat you like one.

He lost me at I grew up in Rawlee as a ncsux fan though reading his poast I coulda guessed it even if he left that part out.

I remember Fedora saying that he enjoyed visiting Columbia(even though he lost to them), and he would like to go back. This was in reference to the return game the Tar Heels owed the Gamecocks. As for the McGuire years, someone told me they got that rep because of the MD game, but, at the same time, the Gamecocks believed the officiating was biased against them, and McGuire even complained openly on his show about it. I agree about your last statement, as I go on a lot of forums, and I have seen a mutual admiration society going on between the Gamecocks and some fan bases, but absolute acrimony with others(UGA and Clemson.) UGA fans have a bad rep, but what can you say about a school that was founded by one of the original white supremacists, Ben Tillman, in Clemson. There are still socio-cultural reasons why Clemson is only about five per cent African-American(as of two years ago) in a state which is one third African-American.

Let's look at the match up objectively, position group by position group.

QB - I like our starter better than your starter (which one is it this week?). Yes, Shaw can be dynamic, but he can also completely disappear.

WR - Davis, Ebron, Tap, Thorpe, Wilkins are better than any five you have (although that kid who tore up the Shrine Bowl will be awesome)

O-Line - 2012 O-Line woulda definitely taken the cake over yours, I'm still very happy with the 2013 version, let's call it a tie

RB - AJ and Romar will be lightning and thunder, add Logan/Switzer and we are better than you guys in the backfield

D-Line - I ain't even gonna play, y'all have the best d-lineman in the country in Clowney, y'all get the vote there

LB - We will be breaking in some guys back there, so I'll give it to y'all, for now

Secondary - Unless we play above our heads most really good HS teams have a better playing secondary than us

Special Teams - The loss of your PR kills you here, we have good ST and Larry personally coaches these guys so they will only get better, we take the cake there.

Looks like our O is way more potent than yours, your D is way more stout than ours. May come down to ST's.

It's gonna be a lot closer, on the field, than you give us credit for.

So over the past few days I guess a news booklet or whatever came out to all season tix holders about the 2013 season for the C@cks. and called the UNC game a "WARM UP" GAME. So all i hear now is how were a warm up game kinda like ECU was like last year. I hope the football team looks at this the same and gets shocked when we drop 45 on them! Starting to **** me off all ive heard now for 2 days!
