I might have to give this stuff a try. Only cost about $12 for a bottle.

And yes, it is perfectly legal. It's a natural compound. Of course, the way things are going of late, protein is going to become a banned substance because it repairs and builds muscle tissue.

I cant really comprehend someone scrapping the fuzz off a deer's antler then liquifying it and I spray it in my mouth. I would try rubbing it on a sore muscle but spraying it in my mouth seems scarey.

Inhaling or injecting this might actually have the affect of HGH. Not sure about oral ingestion, seems like it would get broken down too much

Define "competitive" sports. Pro level, college, high school? Is it illegal for college (NCAA) is all I care about. If it is, there should be an investigation when you have the guy that sells the stuff claiming first hand knowledge of giving it to Bama players.

Re: Alabama players used deer antler spray

No, it should not be illegal. There is a difference between natural sourced IGF-1 and pharmaceutical grade, injectable, IGF-1. Natural sourced IGF-1 from DAV is not as potent.

What, are we going to ban milk as well? IGF-1 is bound to the casein and survives the gut and it has been shown people who drink allot of milk have higher IGF-1 levels. I've seen Rich Froning drink a gallon of milk and him distribute it to the players at TTU. Someone launch an investigation.

Education, and common sense, is important to making informed decisions.

This guy comes across like a snake oil salesman who hit the advertising jackpot with an ESPN story.

<quote>Key said he sold about 20 bottles of deer-antler spray to LSU players before the regular-season meeting with Alabama that year. Key said he has also provided healing hologram "chips," which are stuck to the body, to Auburn players during their national-championship season and this year sold healing "bands" to players at Ole Miss and Georgia.</quote>

Everybody wins the big one when they're using his stuff!

Deer antler product from New Zealand, "stuff has been around for almost 1,000 years, this is stuff from the Chinese".

I notice he's focusing on $EC football, where ethics and academics take the fore.

wuffies had issues collecting the deer urine though. The deer getting a erection made the 'unique woofie' collection process difficult

C'mon, NCAA, so let's see... you investigated Miami because a guy bragged about what he did for da U players to Yahoo! sports from his prison cell. Now some guy brags to ESPN about giving his product (which includes a banned substance) to 'Bama players. Seems like it should be worthy of a look.

Re: Alabama players used deer antler spray

Alabama is in the business of sending "cease-and-desist letters". They sent them to the sports memorabilia dealer that gets Bama football players signing autographs as soon as their eligiblity ends.

The NCAA will do nothing here and lean on the crutch of these "stern" letters. We should have written some letters.

You never watched Alabama play and wonder how is it their players are so much more jacked up than other teams except for maybe LSU. I'm not just talking about their 3rd and 4th year guys. They have had beasts on the defensive side of the field the past few seasons. Don't hear much from them once they get into the NFL.

RE: Alabama players used deer antler spray

Milk has IGF-1 too, so this is a non issue. IGF-1 is a natural hormone already present in the body. DAV is not even a drug, so the morons calling it a PED are just attention whores. Allot of pharmaceuticals come from natural sources...they are just more highly concentrated and carry the body from a state of deficiency to a state of normalcy for health reasons when used under supervision. When you use them without supervision and use more than prescribed to illicit a greater than normal response then you have 'PED' usage. However, a food based nutritional supplement does not fall into this category, even if it contains a standardized extract. It is no different than taking a high grad fish oil supplement than contains a high concentration of EPA/DHA.

This whole thing just a stupid witch hunt from people who don't know crap about nutrition and nutritional supplementation. Of course, this owner is thrilled to death with the coverage because now his product, which has been used for quite some time with positive results, is going to be more popular than ever.

If they tested positive for IGF-1, it wouldn't be from the DAV. That is for sure, though they'd likely try to pin it on it.

Still, its key ingredient, though natural, IS banned by the NFL and NCAA.

RE: Alabama players used deer antler spray

Yeah, that is true. So, it is a grey area I reckon. I still don't think anything will come of if though because I seriously doubt it will leave any markers that could cause a red flag in a drug test like pharmaceutical grade injectible IGF-1. DAV is a natural compound that contains IGF-1 that is naturally produced in the body, just like micellar casein in cow's milk. DAV just sounds exotic to people and draws more of mental correlation to possible steroid usage. Like I mentioned before, I am almost 100% certain PED usage is common place, but if an athlete was to ever fail a drug test, it would not be from DAV. What would happen, however, is that the athlete would try to lay blame on it rather than coming clean.

Thing is this as well. People want high caliber athletes, and demand performance. Well, lifting weights with the intensity required to increase performance along with daily practice and getting smacked around on game day requires nutritional supplementation. I'm not trying to justify steroid usage, but when you ban steroid usage (which makes sense due to how easy they are to abuse)...you got to allow athletes some avenue to help aid recovery. Otherwise, you are doing to get overuse injuries and impaired performance. So, rather than demonize nutritional supplements, I think it is important to educate people on their value and understand they are not drugs and are in no way PEDs.

So,in the end, bottom line, I think it's just a witch hunt by people without a clear understanding of what is a legit nutritional supplement and what is an illegal PED. Case in point, I think that link you linked is a prime example of such a misunderstanding.

They were only using that because of their financial problems. It's much cheaper than antler spray. Nutsack spray starts under a buck.
