Purdue was tied for 55th in total offense this past season. I hope they aren't expecting a big improvement!

Coach Shoop does seem like a good man though. Best of luck Coach!

That drove me NUTS! And...he did it all of the time.

He does seem like a great guy/man from what I read. I just didn't think very highly of his OC abilities. I don't think Purdue is making a very good hire...but I guess time will tell.

Best of luck to him. As someone who was likely his biggest critic while he was at Carolina, I sincerely hope that he does well at Purdue. He and his family are a terrific group of people, and I honestly and truly wish him nothing but success in Indiana.

If we do end up in the B1G (which I don't think will happen, but you never know for sure), it will be fun to play a game when we have two offensive coordinators on our side.

Perhaps you should read that op-ed he wrote on behalf of Carolina and the players. If you then feel the need to make a smart asp comment about him, then the jokes on you.

very nice ......

at the end of the day I suspect the Shoop family made a bigger contribution to the lives of the players they encountered than simply calling the right or wrong plays ....... at some point in time the wins and losses fade - but the other things they did for these young men will last much, much longer .......

Bethel that's a great response. Very very well said. It's truly pathetic to read some of these responses. This is truly a very good human being with a great family. Sometimes in life it is better being a role model for young men.

Re: Reports: Purdue hires John Shoop as OC...

I thought he actually did a pretty good job overall. He sent a bunch of guys to the pros, we won a bunch of games while he was here and he did a lot for the kids. He was a lot better than anyone since Greg Davis. Am I the only one that remembers the disasters that were Steve Marshall under Torbush and Cignetti under Bunting?

Thanks for your contributions to the Heels, and good luck with Purdue (except against my Nittany Lions).

With Shoop taking the Purdue job does that leave John Blake as the only unemployed former coach from the BD staff? Just curious if they were all able to find employment. A very difficult profession!

John Shoop seems to be a man of character and is a good role model. I wish him much success in his new job, because what every impressionable young man needs in his life is a man of character and a good role model.

No. I'm a Purdue grad and I have no interest in this series. We already play Notre Dame every year and have some other interesting non-conference matchups upcoming. Plus I just prefer playing other teams with the same culture as ours.

Re: Reports: Purdue hires John Shoop as OC...

Shoop remains the only OC in Carolina history to coach a Carolina QB into a starting role in the NFL. And the TJ Yates story is beyond amazing - from unheralded recruit to abused and neglected redshirt to record-setting starter. And then to be starting for the Huston Texans and WINNING! I still am not sure he can get the job full time, but with MS so injury prone, who knows. Did Shoop have anything to do with that success?

Shoop is a fantastic QB coach. He had a ton to do with TJ developing, which TJ will tell you.

That said, QB coach =/= Great OC.

Well I guess Everett Withers is a superstar then because he put way more guys in the NFL and he actually fielded a top 10 defense once or twice.

And you would really call a guy starting a couple games because the 1st AND 2nd stringers went down to injury a "starting role"?

Some fortunate Presbyterian church in West Lafayette just fell into having a Ph.D. in Theology in their congregation -- and one with a real servant's heart.

Her husband is ok, too. That community got a pretty good deal.
