Sounds like his student-athlete hosts showed him a great time and did a good job looking after him.

"Puff" didn't work out for us a few years ago, so I can understand UVa having problems with "Smoke".

Re: UVa Football Recruit Arrested in Charlottesville...
99% of kids his age drink on a regular basis. I know I had my fair share at his age. No one needs to take a holier than thou approach in that regard. We all make mistakes...but trying to kick a passing car...ok...that is not smart, but more than likely knew someone in the car. I sorta doubt he just tried to kick a random car passing by. If so, that is bonkers.

99%? Not even close.

Drunk and in the middle of the road is no way to go through life, son.
Seriously, this kid needs help. There's a drink here and there and there's getting blotto and acting out on one of the most important trips of your life.

I NEVER drank at his age. Of course, I was married, in college, working third shift. Maybe it's a maturity issue, I dunno.

Re: UVa Football Recruit Arrested in Charlottesville...
I was in college, and the overwhelming vast majority of college 19 year old drink. It's not necessarily a maturity issue I think, though maturity does play a part. I never tried to kick a car lol, but I did witness first hand some close friends do some things to make my head shake. They were just lucky enough to get away with it. They are all good people contributing to society now. Like I say, I surely hope he knew someone in the car and just had a drunk moment. If he didn't and just tried to kick a random car...then yeah..he needs help.

RE: UVa Football Recruit Arrested in Charlottesville...
I certainly do not consider it alarming or a big deal of any sort, but 99% of any group I think would be a little high? As, for me, I didn't drink at that age, nor do I now, and nethier do I look down on the young man.

RE: UVa Football Recruit Arrested in Charlottesville...
How about 98.9% lol?
Yeah, it's probably not near that high. I know. That is an overstatement. I was just trying to drive a point across. People have a nasty tendency to rush to judgement and assume the worse with stories like this not having access to all the pertinent information. I can guarantee you though that the overwhelming majority of college enrolled 19 year olds drink on a regular basis, or have gotten drunk once. All it takes is one time, and getting caught doing something stupid.

Disagree. This shouldn't happen when you're visiting a school that is willing to take a chance on you and offer you a free ride to college. This is the time to be on your best behavior. Not out drinking, trying to kick passing cars, and get arrested.
To me, that is a BIG deal.

Re: UVa Football Recruit Arrested in Charlottesville...
Not going to speak for all, but I will say it is not uncommon on official visits for recruits to be taken out to parties, clubs, and bars where drinking will take place. Is this an extreme circumstance of very poor judgement? Yes, absolutely. In most instances the recruits player host makes sure they have a good time and that's the end of it.

RE: UVa Football Recruit Arrested in Charlottesville...
Oh, the stories I've heard from Tidewater area football players, admittedly not those with top tier talent like his, but from the same streets. Tidewater is probably the greatest pool of talent (no pun intended) on the East Coast, but many of these guys come from rough environments. And that's an understatement.

I know I did also. I actually stopped drinking when I turned 21.
