Not Required Reading
Let me start out by saying, I am not a UNC alum, I don't live in Chapel Hill, I'm just a very passionate lifelong Tar Heel fan. My dad is a Southern Baptist minister and I never remember him watching any sporting event besides the World Series. That was my only exposure to sports the first 9 years of my life. Of the 2 channels the family television set could receive, it happened to be on the right one the night UNC and Arkansas played the "Fog Bowl" in 1981. Three years later I was literally getting angry and crying when they lost. My parents thought I had lost my marbles. I've always loved football and basketball equally until recent years. The Butch Davis era is when I felt the majority of my interest transitioning more towards football. 2009 brought the second B-ball title in four years and Coach Davis had brought a relevance back to UNC football I had not felt since the end of the Mack Brown era. At the end of the 2009 season, I was pumped!!! The chick filet game was announced and I literally woke up every morning and did a Google news search on "UNC Tar Heels Football". The season was getting close and I was so ready for the nation to see us whip LSU and then it happened..........without warning my UNC heart was ripped right my chest. I know so many of you guys felt the same thing. Now I realize that life throws everyone of us a curve ball once in a while but what has transpired since is beyond comprehension to me. After watching this Manti T'eo story play out, I can only say I'm a bit envious of his popularity. Not because I want to be a famous person but rather, how it relates UNC. After the Jeremy Schaap interview, my opinion went from thinking that Manti had to, in some way be in on the hoax, to thinking that he was innocent as well as a pretty good kid. Until the interview, My opinions were based solely on the supposed "facts" being told in the media. I normally avoid drama on any level. I only payed attention to this Manti T'eo story as a result of all the "facts" that still exist concerning my beloved Tar Heels. It has made me appreciate patience before I conclude my opinion on any story. I don't think anyone on this forum denies UNC violated NCAA rules. There was an investigation, punishment was set and that was that. Only we as Tar Heel fans know all to well that our pain was not even close to being over If I kept a pie chart on rival hatred before the NCAA investigation, it would have shown Duke at 85%, all others 15%. This morning I hardly have any hate left in the tank after state gets it's share. T'eo got a chance to clarify his side of the story and whether you believe him or not, I for one envy the scale of the attention he had while telling his side. It sure beats the passive response (and I'm talking pre and post NCAA verdict) to all the bad press the UNC leadership has allowed. Outside of my world I'm a pretty insignificant guy. I have three beautiful daughters, a loving wife and four dogs. Insignificant or not if someone tried to hurt them, I'm going to protect them or die trying. I guess that's why I have such a hard time grasping why the hate campaign just won't go away. There is a large UNC family, some in high places. I just wish someone, would publicly and on a national level, would stand up and say enough is enough. The days of dragging the UNC Tar Heel family through the mud are over. Gio Bernard will forever mean so much to UNC football and me personally than he could ever know. The punt return against state was almost a religious experience for me. I know it has to have been just as powerful to at least some of you guys. I had been holding in a ton of anger, hurt and disappointment. Building more and more since 2010, way more than I realized actually. Simultaneously as Gio made that little hop past the last state defender that, all that emotion released and there wasn't anything I could have done to stop it if I had wanted to. I remember bursting into tears and and screaming at the reacting state fans on camera "Yeah, how do you like that, you @#!$% followed by more of the same. I won't be at full peace of mind till these idiots get a life but Gio did relieve the pain and he will always be a hero to me for doing that. I literally do not have one friend that likes sports so this is the first time I've really got this off my chest. To anyone reading that made it to this point, thank you for letting me.

Re: Not Required Reading
I am a UNC alum and live fairly close to Chapel Hill and I could not have written this better myself. You really are spot on......I too can't understand why the PTB are not going on the attack.
Recently, I started a thread on why I think the NCAA is coming back for more and we are going to have to take it.....basically, I was going over the deep end after the most recent weekly article from Kane.
Anyway, I am glad that you are a fellow Tar Heel. At the end of the day you can't take away quality, class, and integrity. No matter what Kane, Pack Pride posters, or dook fans want to believe those things represent UNC and they always will.

Re: Not Required Reading
Great post. I was in Kenan that day this past October and it was like nothing I have ever experienced in my entire life. I was there for the ND game and that was great. I was there the night the lights went out against UConn and Bruce gaves us a hint of what he was going to become. But, to see all those prick *** iNCeST fans standing there in awe as Gio ran that punt back, as the Tar Heel Nation rose in unison to banish 5 years of deplorable play against those inbreds, as they stood there and were relegated back to the second class citizens they are the other 364 days of the year I was in a state of euphoria. I climbed up on the concrete wall next to my seat and started pointing at those red clad infiltrators, one by one, telling them to get the eff outta our stadium. I harkened back to that cold afternoon in 2008 when I was shouted at, cursed and mocked after we lost to them. I remembered the feeling I had in 2010 when R Wilson completed a 3 yard Hail Mary, and how dejected I was at the end of that game. And, I let it all come out. All the crap we had been through, all the BS comments, all the finger pointing, all the utter dejection we had experienced.

Re: Not Required Reading
Not a better way to stick it to them than beating them in Raleigh this year.

Re: Not Required Reading
Yep, Saturday night should begin the "Year of the Heels" in Rawleigh. Actually, our ladies bball team already went there and beat them, so the boys should keep it going, then baseball, then us. Every UNC team should make it a point to win every game they play in Raleigh this year. Then, we can get a billboard that says "Our Town" and post it at every entrace to Rawleigh.

Re: Not Required Reading
Thank you for the kind words.
and also this quote from Tax Guy's post............. "But, to see all those prick *** iNCeST fans standing there in awe as Gio ran that punt back, as the Tar Heel Nation rose in unison to banish 5 years of deplorable play against those inbreds," LOL Not to mention only minutes before they were up by Ten and we all were starting to get sick. It was just a defining and a giant moment to any UNC fan that saw it live. What an emotional swing, finally in a positive way.
