Solution for conference realignment
The Southern states secede from the Union and all the Northern ACC schools have to go elsewhere cuz they can't play Southern schools. SEC kicks out Mizzou and UK, grabs us and UVA. Problem solved, in more ways than one.

Re: Solution for conference realignment
I was thinking about that this am. The Northerners constantly b**ch and moan about the way we do things "down South", but then they move here, vacation here and love to go to bowl games here. Can't have it both ways. --------------------------------------------- --- IslanderHeel wrote: Well, you don't hear about people retiring and moving north. there is a reason. just saying. --------------------------------------------- --- BethelRegiment wrote: not so great I hear .... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ric...nia_damage2.jpg--------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------

Yankees hate us for our climate.
If they were so smart, why haven't they developed a warm climate like we did ?

Re: Solution for conference realignment
1. while I will have to admit that all this conference reorganization business has taken turns I would have never predicted, nonetheless, it seems to me all the real evidence out there is that UNC intends to remain part of a viable ACC for as long as practical - which I believe all the PTB at UNC hope is forever ........
2. UNC does have natural rivalries with our fellow NC schools and other long-standing nearby rivals such as UVa and Clempson ...... other than that all this North-South culture business as an important reason to opt for the SEC over the Big 10 seems rather overblown ......
99% of my exposure to UNC sports is either in BKS .. the Smith Center .. or television .... and an occasional bowl game ....... at the end of the day what real difference does it make to fans whether the name on our opponent's jersey is Mississippi or LSU or Indiana or Wisconsin ? .......
I have a lot of friends who are State fans or Demon Deacs or Blue Dookies -- I have relatively few friends who are Georgia Bulldogs or Florida Gators or Sparties or Farting Illini ........
so all this cultural North-South business may be interesting to pontificate about on IC .... but what real difference would that by itself really make to UNC fans ? ..........
3. I think the more practical differences might get down to recruiting issues and things like travel for the Olympic sports or the competition in a sport like baseball ........ for those reasons, if it comes to some choice on leaving the ACC - I would think the SEC might be better ....... but this 'cultural' stuff by itself is more hot air than substance .......
4. and this business you'll see from the Big 10 crowd on academics - and particularly research - is pure blather ...... that is just veneer thrown out by the college presidents and the league officials to give the saps out there some pretense that all this sports business serves some higher purpose than just sports ...... horsesh&^ ...........

Re: Solution for conference realignment
To me as a family of Tar Heels also my Family on both sides mom and dad have been in NC since late 1700s to early 1800s I feel personaly a bond to southern people. That being said. I do agree most of the Tar Heel games for me will be in chapel hill so that part doesnt matter. I do however feel stronger ties to the SEC than B10 or any other. And as far as going to away games travel to SEC games would be Closer and thats when the "southern" part of it lies. Also I think with Louisville added to ACC we are looking strong. So unless the rug gets pulled out from everything I we will be in the ACC.

Re: Solution for conference realignment
you're clueless...
my collegiate athletic fan experience has been heightened by A&M going SEC
I had more bourban poured down my gut, more food shoved in my belly, better football conversation discussed, laid eyes upon more beautiful southern girls & more pats on the back, "good games", beers bought in one year of the SEC than in 10+ years of the Big12 combined.
that my friend is real & what people mean when they say "culture".

I will only respond to point number 2, and I will sum it up in one word "RECRUITING"!

After reading these expansion threads your most natural rivals are the north.

RE: Solution for conference realignment
Whaaa????
We are located in NC with 4 other D-1 schools (Wake, Dook, State, ECU) and all of the states immediately surrounding us are Southern states with large state schools - Virginia (UVA, VT), Tennessee (UT), Georgia (UGA, GT), and South Carolina (USC-e, Clemson).
THESE are our natural rivals and none is in the north.

Re: Solution for conference realignment
Yes, let's link the things Sherman did. Which were, BTW, against the laws of warfare even in that barbaric time. Sherman, and many other northern generals, should have been hung for war crimes/crimes against humanity. Every time I see someone gloss over the barbaric things he did, I want to blow a gasket. No, I am not talking about him burning cities and railways. --------------------------------------------- --- tarheelphil89 wrote: Yeah, people with any sense at all would consider this a lesson learned all too well. www.old-picture.com/civil-war/...ing-Atlanta.jpgupload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia...ry_17,_1865.jpgwww.sonofthesouth.net/leefound...ng-railroad.jpg--------------------------------------------- --- BethelRegiment wrote: not so great I hear .... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ric...nia_damage2.jpg--------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------
