It's no skin off my nose either way. IMO, it's just plain weak, and supporting this does not help the perception of your program and its fanbase in the least. But if it makes you feel better, be my guest. Only don't be offended if you hear chuckles in the background.

This is really weak sauce.

Don't worry, we'll put them up in Atlanta real soon so you can get a closer look at 'em.

A fair point. I wish our arch-rivals were Duke and NC State instead of U[sic]GA - we seem to do pretty well against them. :-)

As ugly as the U[sic]GA series has been (and it really is - they're completely in our heads at this point, to the extent that even on the rare occasions where we have the better team, like 2009, we still choke against them), we're 4-11 against them in the last 15. Mighty Carolina is 2-13 against lowly GT in that same period.

Heck, the only reason we had to apply for a waiver was because Carolina DIDN'T WIN THE COASTAL because you were ineligible, forcing us to go play FSU in your place.

For what it's worth, I don't really mind Carolina folks. All my relatives are from NC and are Carolina fans. I've always been treated well in Chapel Hill (been up there for 5 or 6 games at this point), and really enjoy your campus and stadium.

We've just got to find some way to pass the time until September, so thanks for giving us something football-related to talk about. :-)

Wait a sec, if the NCAA or ACC does not recognize that....then how do you win it? It seems alabamesque with their NCs.

Maybe you missed the point. NCSTupid was on NCAA ( basketball )Probation back in 1973. The ACC did NOT prevent them from playing in the ACCT, did NOT prevent them from being ACC Champs just because they were on NCAA Probation ( look it up on the ACC Official website ). They were and are recognized as 1973 ACC Champions. I am simply pointing out UNC has been treated differently even though the NCAA post-season sanctions are the same. To me, its a fairness issue. Maybe you have different issues.

You never could have expected this sort of response in view of their anemic turnout at the ACC Championship Game. Perhaps that had something to do with their having finished the division in third place.

1) We, being fans, Fedora, UNC, are taking shot at state and her agdog fans. You have that correct.

2) We are pointing out that, on the field, we did win it. The ACC just decided to eff us over halfway through the season.

RE: New Carolina Football Billboards in Charlotte

The fact of the matter is, none of our violations gave us an advantage. We never paid anyone to play here. If John Blake really was a runner for Gary Wichard, then he was the most ineffective runner of all time. We were penalized because of impermissable benefits designed to steer players to an agent. No ineligible players were used this season. We were raked over the coals some times fairly, sometimes not. Ask Devon Ramsey. Ask him if UNC won the division. Nobody in the history of college football has gotten screwed as hard as that young man. What I'm trying to say is, nothing we did gave us an illegal competitive advantage. We played the games on the field, we won the games on the field. This team won 8 games, when they absolutely nothing to play for besides pride. Kevin Reddick could have transferred to almost any school in America, and started from day one. This team won the division. Along with Miami and Georgia Tech. Technically, we won the tiebreaker, but we were ineligible. So it goes. But due to the perseverance of our players and coaching staff, this goes down as my favorite Tar Heel football ever yet.

As a GT fan, I'm not even trying to argue that you didn't win a piece of the championship - it was a 3-way tie for the division championship, and we ended up in the ACCCG on a technicality, just like you'd have ended up in the ACCCG on a technicality if you weren't being punished for cheating.

(If Miami fans had the internet, they'd probably be here complaining, too. :-)

Tech fans, do you guys recognize the natty from '91? Because I'm pretty sure you were technically "co-champions". So if you do claim it, you have nothing to say about this. And as for the ACC, UNC does not need their approval to print up a shirt. Carolina was, whether you like it or not, division champions (as were you guys). So go print your own shirt and be proud of your accomplishment and quit complaining over here.

---------------------------------------------

The 1990 National Championship is similar, but not exactly the same situation. It's usually noted that we split it with Colorado, because we were #1 in the UPI poll and they were #1 in the AP poll (or whatever). But both teams have a legitimate claim to "we're #1," albeit with an asterisk. And if we're honest, their asterisk is bigger than ours, what with their loss and 5th down win. :-)

The point is, we were a) actually eligible to win the National Championship, and b) alone in first place in at least one poll. Here, only one "poll" exists (the ACC standings), and three teams ended up 5-3. So you take your third and we'll take our third and everybody's happy and factually accurate. It's disingenuous to represent that you won the whole thing.

(I'm not sure if we even printed shirts, honestly - I don't think anybody at GT was all that thrilled about winning 1/3 of a title in a historically bad 6 team division.)

JRjr

---------------------------------------------

I once felt like GT belonged in the ACC as much as any of the originals, with its high academic standards, etc. I lived in Georgia back in the 80's, and despised UGA at the time because they advertised themselves as America's First State University (yes, chartered in 1785, but didn't open until at least 1801) and wore ugly red uniforms. Besides, I was an ACC guy. So I was a de facto Tech supporter when they didn't play us. But the more Tech fans I met - which are few and far between - the more I realized they cared more about the SEC than their own conference, and they had no use for Carolina, either. While I admire Tech's elite academic prowess, I've truly begun to despise her fans. I really liked Paul Johnson until I got to know his whiny nature. Yes, he has our number. Good for him. But he is a turd. As far as GT to the Big 10 or wherever, screen door. The ACC SAVED your athletic program, and this is the thanks we get for it. smh
