So many people don't know how this works.

The tie break determines who represents the coastal, not who wins it. Had everyone been eligible, all three would have been recognized as co-coastal champs, regardless of the tie breaker.

So you are saying we are champs? Cool.

---------------------------------------------

Nope. Notice the "had everyone been eligible" part.

Not sure why you all are so insistent about this though. I mean it's obvious your championship game was the week before GT. After all, as hung up as this place is on NCSU you'd think beating them would be a bigger deal than claiming a co-divisional title that you were never eligible to win.

Oh well, I enjoy watching UNC next year in Atlanta. This year's game sure was memorable.

It is beyond me why supporters of other schools constantly come on this board and want to have their opinions heard here. Is your school/board/life that uninteresting that you have to come to somebody else's and spew your ignorance? Your posts carry a heavy tone of jealousy and insecurity which severely discount your credibility.

Heh. Yeah, I'm really jealous of a Carolina team that's been owned by Tech for a generation or so. I was especially jealous when I was in the stands watching a freshman QB lead "Paula's" team up and down the field on you guys this year. Maybe next year y'all can hold us to only 9 TDs. :-)

Seriously, though - that was a fun game. Our defense was so bad that I was actually nervous in a game where we scored 68 points. Win or lose (well, mostly win... ;-), I always enjoy visiting Chapel Hill.

All I have is to point out a ruling by the ACC.

UNC football not eligible for ACC Coastal Division championship

blogs.newsobserver.com/uncnow/...on-championship

“The decision was made that should a member institution be ineligible for postseason competition due to NCAA sanctions, it will be ineligible for regular season or divisional recognition.”

So, what do you jacket fans do? If there is a mention of GT, do you all buzz back to your board to communicate with other worker bees, only to return in a swarm?

"Bzzzzzz, UNC mentioned us in one of their threads."
"Bzzzhuh, what about?"
"Bzzzzzz, nothing malicious, just mentioned us. We need to set them straight."
"Bzzzdam, must be their arrogance showing again. I'll buzz the others!"

Jeez man. I tell them to lay off you, and this is how you repay me. Tsk Tsk. Anyway, yeah, new sheriff. Since, the "new" boss won twice as many games his first year as the "old" boss did, I'd say we have pretty good reason to get excited. Granted, you guys have had our number the past few years. But that's why we play again next year right? If you were to poll every knowledgeable fan OV America over who they would rather have; Fedora or Paula, ninety percent would say Fedora. That being said, I do rather enjoy talking to tech fans. Some of my favorite in the ACC.

Because UNC had a post season ban.

As far as being the "official" Coastal champs, we would have been until a bunch of ABCers whined and cried so much that the ACC changed its rules, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON, to keep us from that honor.

So, GFY.

Because we weren't eligible for POST-season play and Miami, who would have gone in our stead, self imposed a post-season ban. You guys were there by double-default.

BTW, I don't know why some of you act like you admire GT fans.

1) They have a massive, and insane, ABCer contingent. They are almost wuffie like in numbers and whining.
2) A large contingent of them love the wuffies and trade ABCer conspiracy theories with them.
3) They hate the ACC, well... that isn't so bad now, but they hated the ACC when the ACC was worth caring about. They hate us because we were stupid enough to save their athletic program when it was going under. And it WAS dying before the ACC invited you, tech fans.

I know Tech fans SHOULD get along with UNC fans. Our outlook on athletics and academics is very similar. But, for some reason, tech has decided to hate UNC and align itself with the lunatic fringe.

I know man. I was attempting to be cordial. I like to give people the benefit of a doubt initially. Don't treat them like wuffies until they start acting like it, you know? Besides, I kind of feel sorry for them. They get destroyed by Georgia every single time they play. I'm not sure Georgia even considers them a rival.

LOL. Just LOL... really? Who got the loss for playing in the CCG? Hint: It wasn't a team in Carolina Blue.

Can tOSU claim a piece of the National Championship? They were 12-0.

This is really weak sauce.

it definitely flies in the face the conference, but who cares - what's the ACC gonna do about it?

Nobody else can claim they are 2012 division champ, field-wise it is ours.

Tech fans, do you guys recognize the natty from '91? Because I'm pretty sure you were technically "co-champions". So if you do claim it, you have nothing to say about this. And as for the ACC, UNC does not need their approval to print up a shirt. Carolina was, whether you like it or not, division champions (as were you guys). So go print your own shirt and be proud of your accomplishment and quit complaining over here.

Re: New Carolina Football Billboards in Charlotte

Agdog is a combo that came from the epic fail on one of the billboards where they referred to themselves as aggies and the mangy looking dog statue. You know, the one that looks like he just finished licking his ass prior to lapping all the players faces before they take the field in Critter Friendly. It's either a reference to the statue that looks like a dog or to the aggie coeds. Plus they have a dog as their live mascot.

Other than that, agdog just seems to fit people from NCS. It just seems to work as well as anything else I have heard. When I hear it, I automatically think of NCS,

Look, Ga Tech fans have to have something to do this time of year...it's not like their basketball program has been turning heads this year, or any year in recent MEMORY for that matter.

UNC won the division, plain and simple..I think showing 'class' and 'moving on' is something these asinine Tech fans should consider doing.

Then who would've played in the game against FSU? Because If the only reason we didn't play in the Championship game is because of the Ban then we Won The Coastal Division.

But, see, you DIDN'T "win the division, plain and simple," which seems to be the thing that you Carolina folks aren't getting.

As a GT fan, I'm not even trying to argue that you didn't win a piece of the championship - it was a 3-way tie for the division championship, and we ended up in the ACCCG on a technicality, just like you'd have ended up in the ACCCG on a technicality if you weren't being punished for cheating.

(If Miami fans had the internet, they'd probably be here complaining, too. :-)

Actually (true story), the ACC still seems to think it did - they still post GT as the 2009 champs at media days and such. (See photo in tweet from Wes Durham earlier today for an example.) Nothing much we can do about that - we've removed references to that championship from our materials. But I guess we could still put up a billboard about it, and it would be more legit than yours. :-)

I have to admit that the reaction is kind of hillarious. I probably wouldn't have done the billboard but it's just a marketing tool, sort of like the "our state" deal the agdogs did.

The 1990 National Championship is similar, but not exactly the same situation. It's usually noted that we split it with Colorado, because we were #1 in the UPI poll and they were #1 in the AP poll (or whatever). But both teams have a legitimate claim to "we're #1," albeit with an asterisk. And if we're honest, their asterisk is bigger than ours, what with their loss and 5th down win. :-)

The point is, we were a) actually eligible to win the National Championship, and b) alone in first place in at least one poll. Here, only one "poll" exists (the ACC standings), and three teams ended up 5-3. So you take your third and we'll take our third and everybody's happy and factually accurate. It's disingenuous to represent that you won the whole thing.

(I'm not sure if we even printed shirts, honestly - I don't think anybody at GT was all that thrilled about winning 1/3 of a title in a historically bad 6 team division.)
