I wonder if Mr Bridges actually knows what sports we field at Carolina. It would certainly appear he hasn't followed any of them.

Sounds like something an agdog would write. Of course, he may just be another of those that feel entitled to see winning teams in all sports at UNC. It's just their right. LOL!!

For all we know he is an agdog posing as a Heel. Would not put it past that group

This letter contained nothing that hasn't been seen multiple times on this message board.

It has definitely been said on the basketball board.

Re: DTH Letter: A Deconstruction...

As idiotic as the letter is, without it we wouldn't have been treated to such gems as "You know who else thinks Carolina football is a joke? Tom O'Brien, while resting his head on a pillow full of buyout money." and "*Dan Kane shakes his head in admiration, calls Phillip Bridges '86 for tips on how to craft such a well-constructed piece*".

What is Mr. Bridges' IC handle?

I can't believe the DTH ran that thing. I'm sure Dan Kane will run an article in the N&O tomorrow entitled "UNC alum thinks that athletics has been forever tarnished."

Yes....and it is as crazy there as it is in the DTH. I am old enough to remember folks saying the same things about Coach Smith and I shook my head back then. One of the favorite lines of anti-Smith folks back in the day was "the game has passed him by". People kept saying that right up to the time he became the winningest college basketball coach in history.

I think Coach Williams is one of the greatest coaches in the game and we are lucky to have him. Our only issue now is that we are missing 2 guys that I don't think he thought would leave at the beginning of last season....Marshall and Henson.

Now that the N&O & moou have lost their "War on UNC" the wuffies have started a feeble letter-writing campaign. And I also see more loser trolls on our board.

The DTH is as anti-Carolina athletics as the N&O is, the DTH is just a little more professional and exhibits a modicum of journalistic integrity.

The DTH is terrible. I learned that quickly as an undergrad.

Don't forget the DTH was one of the parties on the Media suit against UNC. Don't EVER forget.

Uh, NO!

The DTH staff is just as notorious for trying to pass of opinion as fact as one Dan Kane.

Re: DTH Letter: A Deconstruction...

Ironically, it's not the football and basketball programs that have suffered the most. On the contrary, they both seem to be improving.

What's been forever damaged is the UNIVERSITY'S ACADEMIC REPUTATION.

What student athlete (and essentially any potential student) can help but have second thoughts about how they will be treated by a school which allows it's representatives to exploit the student population for it's own gain. And not REAL gain, simply the appearance of political/ ideological gain. The chancellor is still affiliated with the institution and that's just a continuation of the disgrace.....

Not to worry though, we still have record applications. Who knew?

Alas, will the crowds ever return to Kenan? BTW, always know that real damage manifests over time, not immediately (that for all of you immediate gratification folks....).

<<Phillip Bridges ’86
Greenville, S.C.>>

I was glad to see that Mr. Bridges posted his IQ beside his name.

Not "just as", but they are bad. The biggest difference is that they are students learning to be journalists (who happen to hate Carolina athletics), whereas Kane is allegedly a professional journalist.

While I blame the DTH for treason, I don't fault them for not being top notch journalists yet. Kane and the N&O have no excuse... actually anyone who reads the N&O has no excuse.

I'll grant you that Professor. I guess I should cut them some slack while they are still learning. I was under the impression there were at least a few seasoned editors overseeing the process. Guess not.

Re: DTH Letter: A Deconstruction...

Truly, one of the most ignorant, blindly inane posts ever written. I'm amazed how much the intelligentsia think athletics are inferior yet are so prominent as to forever damage the university's reputation.
