Russell Wilson's a terriffic football player
I know he went to Cow College and whipped us pretty good, but he's a fabulous QB and I'm a big fan. I don't think RGIII is nearly as good.

I agree with you 86, Wilson is a hell of a player. Given the circumstances of his departure, I think it is appropriate to remove the NCSU taint.

He's phenomenal. Crazy how he was just a 2 star recruit. He is a phenomenal player from Wisconsin.

Why aren't you a big fan? Because of the community college stepping stone he went to before Wisconsin? Fair enough if that's the reason but seems like a really good kid and he's obviously really fun player to watch

I respect talent, especially when that talent has class. Wilson has both. I hated his guts at State, but that was because he was always finding ways to beat us lol. I have no problem pulling for him in the NFL as long as Seattle isn't playing the Dolphins. Even then I won't route against him though.

His is a terrific player and a real pain in the butt if he is playing the team you root for. How many times did he avoid absolutely sure thing sacks and turn it into positive yards this weekend? Six? Seven? Must drive defensive coaches crazy. Would have loved to have seen him continue this season and I'm a Redskins fan.

I think any running QB will have short-lived results. Like some one on NFL network said, "you see a lot of good, young running QBs but never see good, old running QBs.
In addition, the defenses will adjust to the read option and shut this crap down eventually, just like they did with the wild cat.

To say he isn't "near" is a stretch but I think there is a decent argument that they are at least equals. The ratings and yardage are very, very close. Wilson accounted for more TD's but also more turnovers. Neither has particularly good weapons but Wilson is probably asked to do a bit more in the offense since Shanahan was really good at simplifying his offense. RG3 is the better runner but that may be countered by his injuries.
Certainly a close call and I don't have a dog in the fight.

I agree. One year at wisconsin did a pretty good job of washing off 3 years of moou grime off him :-)

Fran Tarkenton was a good, old running QB. He did run mostly behind the line of scrimmage.

I work with a guy who coached RW during his youth basketball days in Richmond. Says he is the product of parents who drove him to be the best person and student (went to one of the top high schools in Virginia -- Collegiate) he could possibly be. Both of his parents were accomplished professionals (his Dad was a fairly well-known attorney) in Richmond and they were hard on RW but were fiercely supportive.
As good as he is in football I hear baseball is his best sport......but not his favorite.
The guy I work with who coached RW played basketball for Benedictine High School in Richmond (great program) and was a teammate there of former UNC BB player John Kuester.

Yeah, Fran was prone to run around a lot, but not to gain a lot of yard rushing. I watched him disappear from a d lineman's grasp plenty of times.

We had Wilson 100% signed sealed and delivered.
Many folks know this sad Bunting tale:
Wilson and his family Tar Heel fans and wanted to come to UNC.
UNC had him high in radar on list. Paulus was a 5 star and Bunting in shock we were in running. Bunting felt it would help UNC football brand if we landed a 5 star QB that Carroll was after at USC.
OK, so we sign Paulus. But in meantime (cause we werent sure Paulus would sign). Maybe some of the closer to program guy scan weigh in here, but the coaches (Bunting not there) went NUTS over Wilsons on field workout. They went to Bunting and said forget Paulus, this kid is a goldmine.
Bunting got Paulus and didnt want to upset his new 5 start by going after Wilson anymore. But from what I heard, the offensive coaches were 100% convinced Wilson was better than Paulas and begged Bunting to reconsider.
The rest is history.

We had a good QB in Yates, but three of our recent seasons would have been a lot better if we had kept Wilson away from Raleigh.
It's hard not to like a guy who says in the press conference, minutes after one of the toughest playoff losses ever, that he was disappointed for a moment, but he started getting excited walking to the locker room, thinking about how good the Seahawks were going to be next year. The kid's got leadership qualities coming out the yin yang.
I have a lot of respect for Wisconsin football.

I just cannot understand how Rivers, Wilson and Glennon all end up aggies. My guess is Glennon is more likely to be a backup in the league, but that is an amazing run for qb recruits by
two different coaches
each of whom was let go
at a school that is not particularly easy to recruit to.

The sad thing is that bunting relayed this story to the acc journal. I remember that the OC said Wilson graded out higher than any other qb he bad ever had in camp. Bunting thought it was a funny story about how you never know how a recruit will work out. That just pissed me off more

That final Seattle drive against Atlanta looked ominously similar to a final drive I watched in Kenan a few years ago. Fortunately the Falcons pulled it out (I live in Atlanta now)
I don't think we'd be discussing the missed opportunity had we had with this recruit had the current coaching staff (our the prevoius staff) been our staff back then

I don't think RW's a running QB. He's a passing QB who can run. He throws a great ball, better than most.

IMO, I think RW throws a better ball than RG3 when you combine short, intermediate, and deep throws in the same analysis. I don't think it's much better, but I think it's a little better.
But more importantly, I think he sees the field and anticipates where his receivers are going to be a lot better. I like to watch a QBs head when he's in the pocket. I think RG3 locks in on one guy much more often. I think Wilson goes through his progressions better and has the savy to look off safeties. He plays now like he's been in the NFL for years.
I think if both of them ran like Tom Brady or Payton Manning, I would take RW over RG3... right now, at least.
