Re: Tuberville
I'm not a Tuberville fan, but their are two sides to every story - and we've learned that the media loves to accentuate contraversey.

Re: Tuberville
Remember him doing something very similar when he took over at Auburn? Actually, it was worse. There were ~5 scholarship players that did not have their scholarships renewed...

No different than Spurrier pullings offers from kids on signing day last year to get higher ranked kids in. Funny how the media never really calls these dbags out on these things.

Let's not get crazy. He didn't win big at Ole Miss or Texas Tech. He was 25-20 and 20-17.

Re: Tuberville
Tuberville leaves a bad smell every where he lands. There were a lot of folks at Miss, Auburn and Texas Tech that said don't let the door hit you in the rear. Yes he wins; but, there is just something about the guy that attracts controversy.

Agree...give him Wiggins' spot, if necessary. --------------------------------------------- --- CosmoHeel wrote: UNC should offer Monday immediately Tubberville is a total D-Bag and there is video to prove it www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSVdIFAud94---------------------------------------------

Don't forget.......during his brief stay in Lubbock, he was nailed for a ponzi scheme and his wife killed a guy.

......Tuberville "won" in Lubbock? When did that happen? He took over a team Mike Leach had been saying would be his best at TT and missed out on a bowl game for the first time since Tech was in the B12.

Re: Tuberville
I'm not going to defend Tuberville too hard, but it probably should be equal parts responsibility of the recruit to ensure that the communication is open and clear as to whether the scholarship is stil on the table. I don't think Tuberville is under any obligation to honor commitments made to the previous staff. I can't think of a situation under Fedora where this happened (in part because the previous staff had only gotten 10 commitments when Fedora took over and even with scholarship reductions, we had plenty of room), but it certainly happened under Davis and it happens often. The recruit can either sit back and claim that he has been a victim or he can play a role in his future and ensure that he has a spot or start looking elsewhere. But if he knows what is best for him, he (or someone in his family) should have been making sure that he still had a spot a month ago. Three weeks is an eternity between now and NSD. Quit complaining about the big bad new coach who doesn't think you are good enough for a scholarship and get on the horn and reserve a spot elsewhere at one of the other places that showed you some interest. You may even want to be thankful that you found out when you did. It could be worse and it could January 30th and you are just coming to this realization now. Spurrier actually had two qualified players in a class 4-5 years ago that had verbally committed and couldn't enroll in August because too many kids in the class qualified. THAT is being treated like crap. Monday still has options. Those kids didn't
All this being said, there was a rumor that Tuberville was taking some Texas Tech recruits (with their families) out to dinner when he got the Cincinnati offer. From what I understand, Tuberville got up and excused himself (as if to go to the bathroom) and just flat out left the restaurant. And left the recruits/families with the bill at the restaurant. I don't know the detals but it has been suggested that the recruits were trying to get money and TT just got fed up with it and left them. In fact, that is what I believe is a huge reason that he left Texas Tech to go to Cincy. If this is the case, it's pretty funny in my opinion.

So Tuberville, who coached at 2 SEC programs (including arguably the dirtiest program of all-time), left Lubbock because he couldn't stand the cheating at Texas Tech? It offended him so much, he couldn't even finish a meal?
He left Tech because the alumni wanted him gone because Mike Leach could beat Texas when Texas was #1 but TT lost every time to Texas during a 3 year stretch when the Horns sucked. He left because he missed a bowl game for the first time since Tech has joined the Big 12. He left because he found out why the computers often have the Big 12 as the toughest conference - it is a b*tch to win there.

Re: Tuberville
espn was trying to defend Tuberville by pointing out that kids are flip-floppers and that coaches have no protection against kids who string a program along and switch at the last minute.
How bout some new rules - a) "hey kids, commit to a program, not a coach ... this is college, not pros" b) Let the LOI be signed much earlier in the yr, with the same sit-out penalties for switching/transfering. c) After the LOI, don't let coaches dump kids because they over-signed or are new to the job. Kids can only get the axe for academic reasons.
Would that help?

RE: Tuberville
Tuberville was on local radio last week and said he'd been in contact with every recruit that had committed to UC and told some of them they just didn't fit in their plans. I'm not calling these kids liars but, since the coach can't comment on individual recruits until they sign I'll leave this one as "to be determined later".

Re: Tuberville
Did I say that was the ONLY reason he left? As you mentioned, I'm sure there were multiple things that made the Cincinnati job more attractive to him than the TT job. Another would be that maybe he got fed up with having to deal with recruits with their hands out and that weighed heavily on his decision? As you said, maybe he thought he was moving to greener pastures in Lubbock where he thought he might not have to deal with the shenanigans as much as he did in Auburn and Oxford and perhaps time has proven that it goes on there as much as anywhere. I am like everyone else and have no idea which factors were the biggest for him. I just find it strange that he left in the middle of a dinner with recruits and left them with the bill. If I had respect for the recruits and their families, I would probably consider recruiting them to my new job at THAT point, but at a very minimum, I'd take 5 minutes to charge the bill to TT and say have a good evening and good luck. Seems like he was trying to make a point with leaving without saying goodbye and I like the theory that it was because the kid was wanting money. Again, it's all speculation, but it makes sense to me.

Re: Tuberville
If recruits were asking for money, I have no problem with how he handled it. Just imagine how much clean college football would be if every coach reacted this way.
