2013 ACC Opponents Announced

UNC's 2013 FB ACC slate: Home is Duke, Miami, UVa, BC. Away is GT, Pitt, VT, NCSU

grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/a...3-opponents.pdf

Greensboro, N.C.—The Atlantic Coast Conference Friday announced the football conference opponents and sites for the 2013 season incorporating new members Pitt and Syracuse into the 14-team league. As the conference did in its previous expansion schedule model in 2006, this year's schedule of league football opponents is entirely a new scheduling model that is not based off the previous schedule.

The complete 2013 ACC Football Schedule, including specific dates, is expected to be announced in early February.

Each ACC team will play eight conference games in football (four home and four away), six games within their division (three home, three away) and two games (one home, one away) with crossover opponents from the opposite division. In 2013, all Atlantic Division members will host their primary crossover opponent while Coastal Division members will host a rotating crossover opponent.

Each school's primary crossover opponent does not change, while its rotating crossover opponent will change each year. With the exception of Pitt and Syracuse, all schools will be playing their rotating crossover opponent for the first time since 2009. Pitt joins the Coastal Division while Syracuse will compete in the Atlantic Division and the two schools will play each other annually as primary crossovers. The other primary crossovers will stay consistent. The primary crossovers are:

Atlantic Division Coastal Division
Boston College Virginia Tech
Clemson Georgia Tech
Florida State Miami
Maryland Virginia
NC State North Carolina
Syracuse Pitt
Wake Forest Duke

Also, as in 2005, the new model of conference opponents will result in repeat site games in order to balance home and away schedules. This year, taking into account the existing schedule, there will be a total of just six repeat site games, all limited to the 2013 football season.

The games with opponents traveling to the same site as in 2012 are: Duke at Wake Forest; Duke at Virginia Tech; Miami at Duke; Georgia Tech at Clemson; Virginia Tech at Boston College; and Virginia Tech at Miami.

Though the conference is releasing just the 2013 ACC opponents at this time, this schedule model may be used as the basis for a full, multi-year schedule in the future.

Below are the 2013 conference football opponents for each ACC school. The games are listed with divisional games first in alphabetical order, followed by primary crossover and then rotating crossover games.

I know I was saying I am glad we dropped them from ours. Some people seemed to want to keep them. Overall it isnt the greatest schedule in the world, especially with MTSU now in our OOC.

"Each school's primary crossover opponent does not change, while its rotating crossover opponent will change each year." If I understand that correctly, it means we will not travel to BC in 2014, but instead face a different team from the Atlantic division?

Thats correct! Has anyone else heard anything about redoing the divisions after Louisville joins?

We may have to add another team to make it even, just thinking out loud.

We should be 8-0, IMHO. I mean, 6-2 the worst. We haven't played Pitt so we don't know what to expect and GT game is questionable. This depends on our D.

Go undefeated at home, win three of five on road including at lil Carolina, 10 wins, ACCCG, no worse than Chic-fil-a Bowl.

Notre Dame will play into that schedule when Louisville enters in 2014. There will be an even "16" team schedule at that time, more than likely.

Um, we won't need to add another team and ND won't factor in to the conference schedule because they won't be a full member. Playing ND would still be an OOC game. Louisville will simply replace Maryland in the Atlantic so both division will still have 7 teams each. Now perhaps the league will look into switching a few teams between the divisions after Louisville arrives, as it would appear at this time the Atlantic would be much stronger than Coastal but these things can change quickly.

Sure wish the ACC had changed Carolina's schedule rotation with vpi, gt and ncst. It makes the away game schedule much tougher every other year - plus the home schedule w/o any of those three teams will be less appealing to fans.

While I'm complaining - I'd much rather play @ su indoors than @ pitt outdoors due to the weather. Also, from what I've seen, pitt's field does not hold up well later in the season. Bad weather, poor field - ugh!

A win against SC would be a very long shot, no way we beat GT and usually you can count on 1 or 2 other "what the crap" losses

Alright, I didn't see that. But in the grand scheme of things, when talk about playing real competition, Boston College is not the first thing that comes to mind. I rather consider them to be oatmeal.

While I agree, remember that FSU & Clemson will rotate to Kenan, along with our ND rotation. That should help in the odd years.

It'd also be nice to schedule better OOC games, too.

Yeah, our OOC schedule needs a little work. I am willing to bet that UNC will be in the first rotation for ND in 2014.

RE: 2013 ACC Opponents Announced

I'm very curious to see who our ACC opponent will be on 9/14. GT, Mia, and Duke all appear to have openings that day. I'm guessing we'll play Duke later in the year, leaving GT and Mia as the most probable opponents. We've played GT a number of times in September in the last 10 years (2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011) so that would be my guess.
