Re: IC Radio - Change in Academic Requirements

You guys can spin this any way you want. The fact is that the University -- and that evidently means the out-going chancellor -- has decided (without evidence or discussion) that UNC football has repeatedly caused the University to admit students who should have not been admitted.

As a result, the universe of possible UNC football recruits has shrunk. Do not tell me about this is year's class -- it is the classes into the future that this will impact as this mysterious star chamber process now has carte blanche to tighten the screws going forward.

How long Fed puts up with having to double "vouch" for his recruits (to an academic side that the Martin report found at fault, BTW) is anyone's guess.

It's tough. You see this at other schools like UVA and Stanford, and it doesn't seem to hurt their recruiting too much. On the other hand, if the NCAA requirements aren't good enough for your school's academic profile, then perhaps the issue isn't with Thorp (I can't believe I'm saying this) and the academic administration, but with the NCAA for expecting too little of recruits coming out of high school.

This issue leads me to wonder - in a knockdown drag-out fight, who wins: Mark Emmert or Holden Thorp?

You could put Thorp, Emmert and Jay Smith in a cage with Honey Boo Boo and she would kick their asses until their noses bled.

Their isn't a gram of testosterone among the three of them.

Smarter athletes can run more complex schemes and not get confused, like defense for example.

Classic case of the guy having a bad day at work and coming home and kicking the dog. The academic problems at UNC are not b/c of the academic exceptions that are admitted. Those courses are not set up for football players or even athletes. They are set up for a whole host of students at UNC for whatever reason need to pad their schedule every now and then.

Re: IC Radio - Change in Academic Requirements

This gibberish appears to put UNC on a very unlevel recruiting disadvantage......All NC state universities should accept the NCAA standards for admissions, and none should have an extra layer of red tape.....If the student /athlete passes his work satisfactorily, fine, just give him that opportunity.........and the tutors,,,,I have been there and received two professional degrees at UNC-CH, and many others with higher test scores flunked out thjeir 1st year...............We need to be able to compete on an even level with all schools including Ala. and Ole Miss or who ever.....I hear that Duke has athletes who actually attend class at NC Central to qualify for their eligibility....?????This is the University of the People...Let's act like it.....
