2013 WR Marquez North (ESPN 150 WR's top three schools)

Posted: 1/8/2013 5:33 PM

2013 WR Marquez North (ESPN 150 WR's top three schools)

Three teams are still in the picture for ESPN 150 wide receiver Marquez North (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek).

"My plans are just to go see Clemson, (North) Carolina and Tennessee again," North told Danny Parker of Scout.com. "That's my top three, and I feel real comfortable with those three schools. It's between them."

Clemson is in dire need to add North. The Tigers lost two wide receivers commitments in a matter of days. North could help recoup some those losses. The Tigers currently have one wide receiver committed to the program. North Carolina and Tennessee each have at least three wide receivers committed to this year's class.

With Clemsons finish i feel pretty confident that they will have the upper hand here. Hope we can close the deal on him. WR is obviously not hurting for us but North could a good one and we can always use that.

I don't consider it to be the end of the world if we don't sign North. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the kid. But I've had my heart broken too many times the last few years to get bent out of shape about it. But, if clemson comes up here and gets another top ten NC recruit, I'm gonna flip my s#&@.

I feel the same way you do chilliheel. Just feel that if he wanted us it would've already been in the bag. Hope i'm wrong and the staff had him hold out for a signing day surprise, but as you said been let down to many times to get bent out of shape

Too lose North to the SEC is becoming commonplace due to better competiton which I understand...still don't like it; however, to lose North to Clemson, an ACC brethren, would be absolute insanity and unacceptable.

.....but, UNC football would continue onward and forward!!

It would be a surprise if he picks Clemson, I know they have recently lost a WR commit but it's been known for some time North favors UNC and Tennessee.

That's how I feel about it. Clemson jumped back in when North was done considering them. Too much ground to make up, I think/hope.

He always liked Clemson but took them off the list because of the playing situation, now that 2 players have left Clemson he might swing back for them. I just saw Hopkins is returning so with him and Sammy back he will not get alot of playing time, so I hope he sees that.

Hopkins hasn't announced although he hasn't enrolled in classes so he's probably leaving.
Boyd announced today he was staying

Tennessee lost two WR's to the NFL today, but also their QB.

North could be a difference maker for us, I'd love to get him but it is lining up for Clemson. Get to play with Boyd, Clemson beat Louisiana state. I hate to say it but I can understand it.

I was thinking the same thing. Had really hoped TB would jump for that and other reasons. I also feel that in this QB class, he would have had a been pretty highly rated.

I don't think you understand how far behind Clemson is in recruiting him, they have a lot of ground to cover in a short time. Yes it would seem like an attractive destination for a WR like North but I don't see him ending up anywhere but Knoxville or Chapel Hill. Hell just a few weeks ago or so on twitter Marquez asked his followers the question "Tenn or UNC? Hmmmmm"

North would probably redshirt @ klempson and would only play one season with Boyd, not the draw some of you think.

I was down in the Clemson area today and listening to Roy Philpott. He seems to know all the news there and said it was common knowledge that Hopkins was going pro.

I hope coach Brewer can pull this one in. It is thought North's father is a UNC fan.

Marquez North and Carl Lawson should be THE top priorities.

Wouldn't Boyd be gone before North even plays a down, if he redshirts?

Yes. Boyd is gone after this year no matter what, but it's not like we have an Olineman as Boyd's backup either. We have a pretty highly rated dual threat QB waiting in the wings. Plus, we have one of the nation's best QB's coming in 2014.

I'm not convinced he redshirts. Outside of Nuk (who in all likelihood is gone) and Sammy, WR competition is wide open. If he has the size and the football smarts, he can start from day one. Clemson has proven that they don't care what class you are or how long you've been on campus. The best player plays. Recruits see that. All they have to do is work hard, and they can start from the beginning.

That's perfectly fine, I was just saying that North wouldn't play with Boyd. I don't know much about Clemson and who's the backup. I know UNC will be perfectly fine at the QB once Brenner leaves.

I'm thinking the same. I would hate to lose a guy that we've put so much effort and time into getting, but Clemson has all of the momentum

He also gets to be back up to Watkins and Hopkins. Clemson may have lost some WR commits, but they are still loaded at WR. We are still in good shape. UNC just needs to close the deal when he comes for his OV.

Hopkins will leave for the NFL this year IMO.

Having said that, I "think" UNC looks much better at QB over the next 4 years if you look at the depth chart, especially with the addition of Tribusky. North should take this fact into consideration.

I hope that when North visits again, the staff points out a couple of intangibles..."where do you plan to live after your playing days are over? Back here in NC where you grew up among family and friends, or in lower S.C. near...what? If you were unable to play due to injury, which diploma would be more helpful in opening doors for employment? BTW, have you LOOKED at the ratio of coeds to males at UNC?"

Doesn't matter he's not visiting clemson this weekend. It's a UNC/UT race. Clemson is set up at QB after Boyd. Elite 11 QB Chad Kelly was first QB recruited for Chad Morris system. 2014 committ DeShaun Watson will be a five star QB when all said and done.

WR Marquez North to announce college choice February 6, National Signing Day
Mallard Creek All-American receiver Marquez North will announce his college decision on national college signing day next month, his father told the Observer. North, the top recruit in the Carolinas, will announce his choice during a Feb. 6 news conference at the school, when all of Mallard Creek’s football players will be signing their letters of intent. Twitter and Volnation are saying that North cancelled his visit to Clemson and will probably unofficially visit TN tomorrow. Remember he will be at UNC on the 18th as well. Interesting, but I was always more worried about TN than Clemson.
