Notre Dame football was dook basketball...
...before dook basketball became nationally relevant. Yes, I've heard of Verga, Marin, and Vacendak and their aberrational Final Four appearances in the mid 60's, but dook basketball didn't become the annoying rodentine entity it is until the Koach K era began. Think of the dook/ND parallels: the favorites of pollsters and bowlsters alike; beloved by the national media and their syrupy "they do things the right way" spiel; the darlings of bracketologists, BCSologists, and BSologists as well; those highly favored by referees; adored by subway alums/Walmart fans; despised by the rest of us.
The Dame got what they deserved last night, a total humiliation on national TV, a public flogging worthy of the 1990 UNLV-dook clash when the Rebels DIDN'T throw the game.
I know, I should be ashamed of myself because I didn't cheer for the ACC team. Blah, blah, blah. Notre Dame is no more an ACC team than a woman who tells me "We can still be friends and have lunch occasionally but I also want to see other people" is my girlfriend.

Rev, there was also an ill-fated Bill Foster's led dookventure to the title game in 1978 where they ran into Goose Givens and Reggie Robey.

Indeed, I remember dook's '78 and '86 adventures with teams from the Commonwealth of Can'ttucky.
Imagine what a motivating factor it would be if you couldn't tucky?

So, should we fear the fighting Irish now?

We may not like it but Brian Kelly has completely turned around the ND program and their future is awfully bright. They continue to load up on recruits and many of their key contributors from this team are underclassmen. Overall I think that's a net positive for the ACC, even if the Irish aren't a full time member.

Yes, them poaching 7-8 players from NC and SC already is reason to rejoice. ;-)
