Re: WSJ , What is your FB team worth

Why? Our revenues have been down year over year due to the firing of BD and the sanctions, plus we piled on the CapEx spending at exactly the wrong time. This hurt these calculations. Run them again in three years when we're a bowl team and selling out again.

I thought the aluminum jungle would be worth more than that.

Why BS, our expenses are high, paying for multiple coaches, our media contract is so so. Will our market grow, yes, but we have to share with new teams that are not from large markets, Cuse ,Ville. So our cash flow based on our rating is probably just ave.. I agree in a few years hopefully we will be better as our product improves. Comparing to industry, GM is a huge car company with huge revenues, problem is they have enormous expenses because of pensions, legacy cost. Thus their value is very low.

First rule of trading: buy low, sell high.

Right now, with the way Fedora and the staff has been recruiting and given the results on the field this year despite a poor defense, I'm buying low on UNC.

I question your comparison of UNC football to GM. You do know GM filed bancruptcy?

The value of ACC programs (in Millions):

#27 - Clemson @ $201.8
#29 - Ga. Tech @ $188.4
#30 - Va. Tech @ $171.5
#33 - FSU @ $159.0
#34 - Miami @ $157.7
#37 - UVa @ $146.3
#39 - N.C. State @ $143.0
#50 - BC @ $110.2
#54 - UNC @ $99.8
#56 - Maryland @ $96.0
#60 - Louisville @ $75.4
#64 - Duke @ $62.0
#65 - Pitt @ $59.6

The highest and lowest values of SEC Programs (in Millions):

#3 - Florida @ $599.7
#66 - Vanderbilt @ $57.3

Some general conclusions one could draw from the knowledge of UNC's program being valued at a lowly $99.8 Million:

* the University should continued to invest more into football program annually to obtain the value of a top 3 program in the ACC

* the University has been operating the football program "on the cheap" like the Oakland A's

* to a certain extent, "you get what you pay for"....one could correlate that small investment yields small and / or mediocre results

* build the program.....and the recruits, the fans, and winning will come to Chapel Hill

when the value of football is almost 50% higher at state than carolina we should give up.
i'd like to see how they arrived at these estimates.

Re: WSJ , What is your FB team worth

In what alternate universe is Kansas football worth twice Missouri football? Kansas sells their tickets on Groupon and is lucky to get 40,000 a game. Mizzou averaged 68,000 this year with higher average ticket prices. Mizzou has big stadium expansions in the works, and will soon be getting big SEC paychecks with a share of the SEC Network.

This is the dumbest thing I've seen in several years. That guy should be immediately fired.

I agree. I would like us to be more comparable to Ford.

Re: WSJ , What is your FB team worth

I wasn't thinking about GM bankruptcy but there maybe a good comparison. You could stay UNC FB went bankrupt, on the field, from 2002-2007 when we were something like 19-40. The whole program had to be revamped. Then we had the FB scandal that we are now just coming out of. The future looks much brighter now than the 2000's looked.
I assume GM also hoped their future looks brighter than the 2000's but I am not sure about that. I also like Ford better.

I was saying Ford due to the fact that they dug themselves out of their hole on their own. They didn't accept government help in the form of bailouts. They got themselves into their mess, and they got themselves out of their mess. And if I'm not mistaken, they are financially more sound than any other car company in America right now. That's a good template for Tar Heel football. I used to be a Chevy man. But now I prefer Ford.

Alabama looks like a steal at $476MM. Let's pool our bottle money and buy them!
