Mad that the National Championship is on ESPN

I dont watch much television so I only have basic cable without the cable box. I just found out the National Championship will be on ESPN which means I cant watch the game in HD without the cable box. I always thought the game came on ABC, CBS, or NBC. I hope they never do this to the Super Bowl.

The days of the 3 big networks are long gone. Fox and ESPN are every bit as involved in contracting big time events as ABC, CBS or NBC.

ESPN bought the rights to the entire bowl season, minus the Cotton Bowl.

That's just the world we live in now.

Now that's funny. Kinda cruel, but funny. One of the more "senior" people on our staff complains about not being up to speed on some internal business housekeeping issues. She's primarily a custsvc person who takes orders over the phone, but she never adopted using a computer (ala email). And she wonders why she misses out on internal communications. She's got a real nice horse and buggy though. ;)

You might be able to stream it on ESPN3? Not sure how it works for games that are also on the mothership or the deuce. I've watched games on ESPN3 (formerly ESPN 360) and it was fine.

As a side note, I know plenty of folks who don't even have cable (of any sort) so I think it is becoming more and more popular. This trend is one thing that really makes me wonder about the viability of the BTN in 10-20 years. Who knows though.

BCS/Title games have been on ESPN for a couple years now.

It was a little strange that the Capitol One bowl was on ABC but the Rose Bowl was on ESPN.

If something is not important to me I dont feel the need to waste money on it. The 68 channels I get with basic cable is way too much for me. If it weren't for ESPN I would turn it off. Basically I'm paying $70 a month for ESPN.

Call your provider and threaten to switch to dish. They'll make you a deal... I switched to Direct TV about a year ago and TWC keeps calling, offering deals to switch back.

Sounds like the OP can watch the game, just not in HD. That is a decision we all have to make for ourselves. I pay extra for my HD package. Otherwise I wouldn't have it in HD either. It's hard to understand why people will pay extra for an HDTV, but refuse to upgrade to an HD box.

sux to be cheap, I'm in the same boat. I spend over a hundred bucks a month at a sport's bar, just because I refuse to pay $70 per month for espn. At least i'm getting a beer at the bar.

With netflix streaming and bit-torrent I get all the other tv and movies I need inexpensively.

Re: Mad that the National Championship is on ESPN

I use to have satellite service called USB back in the days and I got 20 channels for 19.99 but you got to pick the 20 channels you wanted and I was so happy with the service.

DirectTV bought them out and gave me a bunch of channels for 29.99 but ESPN was on the 39.99 package. I complained about it but now I wish I could get that 39.99 package again.

Re: Mad that the National Championship is on ESPN

The problem isn't who carries the game, it's the game time. Totally ridiculous that most kids east of the Mississippi (the majority of the population) won't be able to stay up and see it. They are the next generation of fans that will keep college football at the forefront of American sports. Fewer and fewer kids are playing and watching football. Just look at the lack if support in the student sections not only in Kenan but throughout college football.
