Re: Has Asst Coach Duggan moved on?

Yes, unfortunately, the rumors which surfaced during the holiday season were indeed true! Coach Duggan has accepted another role and an official announcement is forthcoming in the very near future! The release of information pertaining to Coach Duggan has been real close to the vest quite possibly due to Bowl games in-flight.

For the sake of the defense, hopefully we can afford and spend the necessary money to hire an upgrade! With recent firing of recent of seven (7) NFL Head Coaches and staff; perhaps, we can select a strong and respected defensive coach with experience recruiting within the Southeast!

Waiting impatiently for the release of defined information........

Yes. He's heading to USM as the DC. Congrats to him and best of luck.

I think he's just committed to seeing this recruiting class through I believe, which is why nothing has been released yet.

I thought I read that somewhere but when I asked on another DC thread someone thought I was crazy. I am glad to know I am sane.

No announcement made on his replacement yet, but I imagine that will happen after the bowl season officially concludes on Monday night.

I think the Bowl schedule has nothing to do with it. Maybe we haven't hired his replacement yet.

They let you know that we are not replacing a DC. We have two lost neither and still are looking for a position coach.

Maybe his replacement is still coaching? I really have no idea though. I personally think it just has to do with seeing this class through, but that is just an educated guess.

Re: Has Asst Coach Duggan moved on?

Duggan must have known he was on his way out. Why would he leave UNC for USM - a huge down grade IMO. Not much of a loss here as our "D" under achieved this past season.

As bad as our defense was last year, I won't shed a tear for any defensive coaches who decide to leave or have that decision made for them. I wish Duggan nothing but success at USM, however.

To the poeple wondering why he would leave UNC for USM it is because he goes from a position coach to a DC. It's an easy career choice move.

Linebacker coach to DC...I think that may be a step up as well a pay raise.

No doubt. It's like leaving a coordinator position at Oklahoma State to be the Head Coach at Southern Miss.

Or like leaving Carolina as a coordinator and becoming Head Coach at Southern Miss, like Booby Collins did after the 1974 season.

Re: Has Asst Coach Duggan moved on?

It's called career.
He gets a Coordinator gig, which is only way to ever become a HC. he is sitting behind TWO DC's here at UNC, so this is a smart career move.

Coached linebackers. That was his primary job. And (of course) recruiting.
