Haven't heard that but it makes sense in the scheme of things...Toby will be a strong addition to their staff. He did a good job at UVA as an offensive coordinator and I think London could benefit with a little conservative grounding. He seemed like a loose canon on the sideline this season...London, that is.

My understanding is a deal was struck that was favorable for both institutions. I could ask about the details, but honestly I don't care. It'll come out with the press release of course.

Nah he's a good coach, maybe not a premier head coach, but a good coach.

Personally, I think these are good moves by London. It should at least get them in bowls every year.

Now I know why Tenuta is such an arse...UVA grad...should have known.

At least London was smart enough not to hire TOB as his special teams coach.

@PackPride: Tom O'Brien has been named assoc. head coach and TEs coach at UVA, and Jon Tenuta has been named defensive Coordinator at UVA.

From the N&O:

N.C. State saved $1 million on O’Brien’s buyout and another $403,348 with Tenuta. O’Brien finalized his buyout on Thursday, which allowed him to make the move to Mike London’s staff. London previously worked for O’Brien as an assistant at Boston College.

Under the original terms of the buyout in O’Brien’s contract, he was not allowed to take another ACC job until the end of the 2015 season and he was owed $1.2 million.

N.C. State agreed to give O’Brien a $200,000 payout, and his noncompete clause was waived, according to a statement released by N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow.

O’Brien, who will make $450,000 per year at UVA plus a $150,000 signing bonus, could not be reached for comment on Thursday. Tenuta agreed to a five-year contract worth $500,000 annually.

At least he's back coaching at a real school instead of a community college. Moving to the agdogs after stints at UVA and BC must have been major culture shock. He's making the trip from the school holding down last place in the ACC to one near the top. I think it's a good move and may help restore some of his self respect.

I always thought TOB was a poor fit with the agdogs. Whether one likes the guy or not, he came across as honest, reasonable and focused on the job at hand, which is everything the agdogs are not.

Although he'll never admit it, I suspect if the truth be known he's happy to be away from whiny Debbie and the obsessed nutjobs over at the land that time forgot.

I always thought TOB was a decent X&O guy but was surprised when he accepted the job with the agdogs. I suspect he knew that working for the whine queen was going to be very difficult, so I doubt he was caught completely off guard.

I suspect he'll find that at this point in his career, working for people who are totally focused on their own success is a welcome change.

Maybe London will also give TOBy the special teams coordinator hat. And while he's at it, maybe Mike should ask Tenuta to add recruiting coordinator to his responsibilities. That would be awesome. ;-)

The only real news here is that we beat Toby for two (2) consecutive years in Kenan Stadium when I was getting all geared up to travel to Raleigh prior to Gio's infamous punt return and Toby's firing subsequently!

This is good as it will save NCST some money. Debbie Yow wanted a coaching staff who will recruit on an Alabama level. At least that's part of her agenda on the way to bankrupting Cow College.
