Re: Name the 2013 Defensive Front 7

So does that mean including the Ram since techinally we run a 4-2-5? I think it's tough to tell at this time but I'd assume Kareem Martin is assured of starting. Tim Jackson probably as well. After that I'd put Shakeel Rashad at bandit and Shawn Underwood at DT unless one of the True freshman such as Greg Webb can supplant him. At LB I'd have to give the nod to Travis hughes and Tommy Heffernan although Lipford will be coming back from injury. At ram it'll probably be either Ellerbe or Joseph Jackson.

NG- Brown or Underwood with Webb a Possibility by Mid-Season (if Healthy); I'll go with Brown
DT- Tim Jackson
DE- Kareem Martin
Bandit- Lipford or Rashad; Ill go with Lipford
MLB- Travis Hughes
OLB- Norkeithus Otis or Phillip Williamson
Ram- Brandon Ellerbee or Joseph Jackson

Our best shot on D.

Oh, you meant name the players, my bad.

The best seven through camp that can get pressure and stop the run and run with TE's in pass situations.

Yes, I love speed because we will need it. We will be running the offense version of hurry up on defense.

This, assuming Lipford is fully recovered, except Heffernan at OLB and Jackson at Ram.

If coaches weren't confident in hughes as the starter last yr, because he wasn't reading plays correctly, or was out of position, I'm not sure if MLB is in his future unless he makes huge strides.

So I say Shakeel or Lipford are the MLB orchestrating the D. Hughes and Heff do Weakside again.

Carl Lawson is the bandit

If we can just get Lawson on campus, we got a shot.

i know nothing, i'm just screwing around. Naming the front 7 is a huge guessing game at this point. We truly have zero defined studs - maybe aside from Kareem Martin.

Tim Jackson is curious because he doesn't have the prototypical body type for a DT.

Underwood/Devonte - Underwood missed a few games due to injury last yr, but neither he nor Devonte Brown have set the world on fire. But they'll just be true Juniors.

Shakeel seemed okay at Bandit, but was he in that spot only because nobody else was ideal? Shakeel overall looks like a solid player somewhere tween bandit and LB.

Depending on spring, i think any of Lipford, Gnonkonde, Shakeel and Norkeithus could end up there. Phil Steele has been thinking 4* Norkeithus would blossom at bandit. Maybe Drennon or Marquis Haynes could even up there.

Heffernan is solid but isn't large and maybe not as fast.

Hughes couldn't win the starting position over Heff

Sam Smiley and Kameron Jackson are the only guys on the team who took reps last season at RAM.

Lots of young people in lb, safety, dt, bandit, and everyone is still adjusting to the new scheme, so who knows what we'll get.

Hughes is a stud on my Playstation! Leads team in tackles and TFL. FWIW. :-)

Unless cutting his hair has some sort of Samson effect, Heffernan will be a starter. And Dexter Strickland is going to continue to start the remainder of his career as well.

RE: Name the 2013 Defensive Front 7

Gnonkonde would be the guy at Bandit, I'm guessing. Jackson might move off the starting D line to shore up Defensive End and be a first down Bandit if he drops back down to his regular weight. Brown and Underwood on point.
Hughes in the middle w/ Lipford as backup
Heffernan w / backup of Otis is outside linebacker
Shakeel Rashad at Ram

Re: Name the 2013 Defensive Front 7

I think that is about right, but with Hughes taking over for Reddick. Heff did a great job post-UL of sniffing out under stuff and screens while Reddick went on blitzes and delayed blitzes. Hughes would seem to be the better pocket disruptor with Heff keeping the same role as last year.

Also, I gotta believe Schoettmer is in the mix at Ram. Kid had a nose for the ball and could tackle.
