How huge was it for CU/UL to win bowl games on the big stage
As I sat and watched Klemsun beat LSU I thought ok its not that bad. I congratulated a few Tiger fans because to be honest they have been fairly amicable about the Heels situation. Other than their loud and boastful claims of football greatness up until now they have under-achieved so I wasnt that bothered by them winning. However I thought if I was a recruit that was on the fence or a rising senior, watching that game might have made my choice a little easier. Now had that been FSU or GT it would have been given even less attention by me because on the regular, they dont swipe NC players the way CU does.
If anyone does not understand how much of a penalty the bowl ban was watch Dabo interview at the end of that game and let me know if that wouldn't sway you towards the Tigers. Not trying to be all gloom and doom I am just pointing out that they stand to get a huge bump by that win. Same goes to UL by upseting Florida. They stand to get a bump but not in the North Carolina but probably in some SEC teams backyard which boads well for the ACC. As for the Heels we absolutely need a 9 to 10 win season to conteract what Klemsun has done or else those top 10 will not only continue to leave the state probably 3 to 5 of them end up playing for the Tigers. Any thoughts?

Biggest FAIL of 2012...dropping games to wake and dook. We would had ended 10-2, leaving us with loses to UL (need we sat more?) and GT. At least GT eneded strong by kicking USC's butt.
Oh well.... --------------------------------------------- --- SergeantHeel wrote:

UL winning will not hurt UNC in recruiting as I don't think we'll lose players to the Cardinals, but CU winning will bite us in the butt. Hated to see that.

I got here before the SEC apologists? Amazing.
It was big. It will be a topic of conversation on every college football broadcast until the title game.

It went a long way towards raising the perception of the league, but I don't think it adds THAT much to Clemson. Obviously it helps, but the Tigers are already perceived as a top-20 program so I don't think it changes much.
Now Louisville OTOH...

It's a one year slight bump in the conference PR dept., but it'll take having multiple teams fairly highly ranked across multiple years and likely an ACC BCS champ to seriously impact the perception of the ACC.

I am wholeheartedly in agreement with tarheelmiracle that the biggest failure of 2012 was leaving the Wake and Duke games on the table. You can never downplay away games; least not against in-state rivals. while the losses were extremely disappointing, I don't feel that we will lose any recruits to either Wake or Duke; however, top 10 recruits within the state of North Carolina that are SEC leans are given more reason to leave the state.
Going forward, we have to win the games against lesser opponents where we are favored on the road! It's simply taking care of business.....

Winning these higher profile national games in this past bowl season was nice for the conference but it doesn't change the fact that this was the same conference who had Miami getting destroyed by K-State and Notre Dame, a trio of losses to the SEC in "rivalry" games(Clemson/Scar, FSU/Florida, GT/Georgia), Virginia losing to TCU by three TDs, State losing to 5-7 Tennessee, and GT losing to Middle Tennessee at home by a couple touchdowns. Nor does it erase last year's 2-6 bowl record or the atrocious OOC record the ACC has accumulated over the last 3-4 years against any program who poses any kind of threat. What is there to be proud of that this league has accomplished on the football field prior to this bowl season?
FSU beat Florida last year. GT beat Georgia 3 or 4 years ago. I think VT looked good beating Tennessee last year (or was that the year before?). Honestly, I'll take anything, but let's keep it in perspective.
Clemson NEEDS to get back to beating SCar regularly. Miami needs to get over this probation and NCAA sanctions that they are getting ready to go into as quickly as possible. FSU needs to stop losing to Wake Forest and State, but is honestly beating Florida about as regularly as any sane person could expect. I'm not sure what the expectation SHOULD be for GT, but one win over Georgia every five years just is not good enough. They need to stop losing to Middle Tennessee. The conference probably needs to stop allowing schools like dook and Wake to be good enough to go to bowls. There is no reason that VT or FSU or Clemson or UNC should ever be getting beaten with any regularity by these schools.

Very well-said.
At some point, the ACC needs to have team that can at least make it to the BCS Title Game. Quite frankly, Florida St. had that chance this season. They were ranked high-enough in the preseason & would've made it over Alabama if they ran the table. The ACC was weak & they had their biggest games at home (Clemson, Florida). Then, they crapped the bed vs. a mediocre NC State team.
If FSU was playing Notre Dame next Monday night, this would have done MUCH more for the league than CU/UL winning their bowl games.
The ACC needs NATIONAL relevance...it has been a long time since an ACC team was even in the hunt for a National Title in mid-to-late November.

success breads success. these were huge wins for both teams. dabo will milk this in recruiting for all it's worth and that will hurt the heels.
