LA Times Sports section has a piece reporting that PA Governor

Tom Corbett announced Tuesday he is suing the NCAA in federal court...

an anti-trust lawsuit...

this could get very interesting and might have further reaching implications than just the PSU sanctions...

press conference today...

Press conference done. Lawsuit to be filed in Federal court in Harrisburg, PA this afternoon. Strong language in PC calling out NCAA and Emmert by name. Ball is now in NCAA court.

after that press conference ESPN is now reporting that the lawsuit will be filed in federal court in Harrisburg, PA...

it's an anti-trust lawsuit directly related to the harshness of the agreed to sanctions...

their theory = anti-trust - over-reaching by a monopolistic organization, apparently...

Emmert and NCAA both named...

if the Governor is successful it will be interesting to see what impact this will have on future NCAA actions...

wonder if Donna Shalala is calling the Fla Gov right now...

Edit: not yet clear if Emmert named, individually, as a defendant but the NCAA will be...

my memory might be faulty but I seem to remember that the TX Gov had something to do with the SMU sanctions which lead to the DP, maybe being directly involved in the infractions...

don't know if UNC wants to respond publicly but paragraph 56(d) of the court filing is nothing more than a blatant lie...

if anyone wondered if the ABCers campaign to harm UNC in recent years has had any real impact outside of North Carolina you now have your answer...

despite the Martin Report revealing that NOTHING NEW was uncovered, coupled with statements from both UNC and the NCAA making clear that UNC HAD ACTUALLY ALREADY BEEN SANCTIONED for that which was previously found, the lies spread about UNC academic fraud and the NCAA turning a blind eye to such problems have now found their way into a public court filing, as if they were gospel...

and this from the office of the general counsel of the state of Pennsylvania, at the direction of the current governor...

I wonder if Gov. Martin has ever met Gov. Corbett, but it's safe to say they haven't spoken recently...

the real problem with how we're perceived is probably not in PA, or anywhere else outside the Old North state...

in fact, it may be in Chapel Hill, in South Building, where they have been sitting on their hands waiting for time or the wind to sweep this away...

but today, given media behavior, even if you don't want to lower yourself to deny the very stupidest of lies because you believe intelligent people will see through the absurdity of the claims, you run the risk that others will pick up on those lies, as if they were gospel, and re-publish them...

even folks you might otherwise have expected to be careful and accurate about what they said...

clearly, the time for UNC to respond to these lies has come...

that some one felt comfortable enough to reiterate this garbage in a court filing would seem to present UNC with a perfect opportunity to finally hit back...

Wasn't the TX Gov. actually involved in the SMU scandal?
