RE: ACC Bowl Record

There is no doubt that VaTech's offense sucked. But their defense was dominate. They gave up 196 total yards. Here is a quarter by quarter breakdown of how many points they gave up starting at the 2nd quarter...

Exactly what I was saying above. Right now, here are the BCS Conference records in this season's Bowl Games:

ACC 4-2 (done)
B1G 2-5 (done)

Others with games still to play:

Big East 2-1 (2 left)
Big XII 4-3 (2 left)
Pac 12 3-4 (1 left)
SEC 3-2 (4 left)

---------------------------------------------

i think the SEC has two left.

Beating this year's 7-6 USC team was not a 'hell of an acheivement' by any means...not in reality...maybe in perception.

When you consider a 6-7 Ga Tech team from the ACC beat a 7-5 USC team from the Pac 10, it puts it in a different perspective. Not worth howling at the moon, but deserving of some credit.

---------------------------------------------

If Barkley was the QB, I would agree. Heck, if their backup played better, I would agree. You had to watch that game to see how absolutely awful USC's #2 QB was. The USC WR's were just shaking their heads all day.

---------------------------------------------

Notre Dame beat that same USC team with that same QB by only 9 points. They are playing for national championship.

Coincidentally, that was the same quarter-by-quarter breakdown of how many points Va Tech scored from Quarters 1 - 3.

Good for them to hold the 105th ranked FBS offense (who played Tulane, Howard, Army, and Big East competition for gosh sakes) to 10 points in order to win one of the worst bowl games I've honestly ever seen.

Ever heard of the term 'moral victory'? Well, for Va Tech, this game was a 'moral loss'...lol.

I'll bet you didn't watch that travesty. If so, good for you...you spent 3 1/2 hours of your life more wisely than those of us who did.

That was on the road.

Plus, Notre Dame seemed to play down to their level of competition quite a bit this season.

Guess that means USC was about as good as Pitt, Purdue, BYU, and others that ND barely beat.

The USC QB was awful vs. Ga Tech. He overthrew wide-open WRs all-day-long. Ga Tech played 'OK'...but this victory was definitely not over a typical USC team. It will be good for perception for sure. The reality of it is that USC ended up 7-6 losing most of their games in the 2nd. half of the year. They didn't want to be at the Sun Bowl. Credit Ga Tech for taking advantage of that...but it wasn't a 'great achievement' or a 'great win'...just a 'win'.

Nope...they have four -- Florida, Texas A&M, Mississippi, and Alabama still have bowl games to play.

Watched it from wire to wire. Reminded me of game from the 60s. You hold any team under 200 yds then it's dominate.

ACC done but if Louisville beats Fla, I'm taking that as another positive coming out of this Bowl season.

Re: ACC Bowl Record

The ACC going 4-2 in bowl games this year is good, regardless of the "matchups". The ACC has no control over who they play in these games, so I contend winning is always better than losing. To the idea that So Cal lacked motivation and did not want to be in the bowl game, then they should have declined the invite ( would not have been the first team to do so ). If they truly lacked "motivation", well that is their problem and their coaches' problem and is part of the game. Considering the way they finished the season, they apparently lacked "motivation" well before December ( more like since the middle of October ). I am certain if I bothered to take the time I could nit pick at least half of all the bowl games and tell everyone why we should not be impressed by the winner ( but I definitely lack the "motivation" to invest that kind of time ).

I feel the ACC did well.I was sorting pulling for Duke to win. There is nothing about Duke BB I like except when they get a loss. The FB team I can half way tolerate.

RE: ACC Bowl Record

Depending on the outcome of Pitt vs Ole Miss, the Big East COULD end up with the best bowl record among BCS conferences (they're 3-1 with 1 game to go). But Pitt has to win for that to happen. If Ole Miss wins instead, the BE drops to 3-2 (.600) and is out of the running.

So if Ole Miss wins, coupled with Florida's loss to Louisville, the BEST the SEC could do with 2 more teams still to play at that point (Alabama and Texas A&M) would be to finish 6-3 (.667). The Big XII also has 2 teams still to play (Oklahoma and K-State) and could also reach .667 (6-3) if they both win. However, Texas A&M plays Oklahoma so either the SEC or Big XII is certain to get at least one more loss.

The ACC's 4-2 (.667) is looking pretty dang good this year. Especially with Carolina and Miami sitting on the sidelines.

Re: ACC Bowl Record

Clemson beat the brakes off LSU most of the game, up and down the field. They should have won by more. The problem with Clemson and FSU isn't that they are not good enough its that they shoot themselves in the foot to often. They finally overcame it in the LSU game after dominating. Go look at the stats....

Re: ACC Bowl Record

If you count soon to be ACC members Syracuse and Louisville, then the ACC of the future is 6-2 in the current bowl season. I don't how the automatic BCS berths work after college football goes to a four team playoff, but the new additions should ensure the conference keeps an automatic BCS berth if that is still a relevant question.
