Panthers to Draft 14th

Panthers to Draft 14th

That's a little high to take Mr. Cooper, but not by much.

Guess it'll depend on who the GM winds up being and the combine numbers. In a rational world the Cowboys would also be a possibility but that pick wouldn't be sexy enuf for Jerry.

Cleveland, Buffalo, Tennessee all could pick Coop before the Panthers. He won't last past the Giants at 19th.

Panthers need a run-blocking guard, too. They also need some defense and help at the WR.

Re: Panthers to Draft 14th

O-line is a need, but we will likely have to trade up to get Cooper. So far, Richardson hasn't shown much interest in partcipating in Free Agency.

The Panthers could also use a shut-down corner, but one of those won't last to the 14th pick either. This is one of those "what do we do now?" picks.

Top 10 is just too rich for a OG. OT fine, but not a guard. SD at #10 is about the earliest I could see Cooper going. I'd hate to see him land with a crappy Rams squad at 17th.

How about a WR? Steve Smith could use some help. He's almost never had a legit #2 to take pressure off.

The Rams are actually on the up and up. They have been playing pretty good ball of late and have a good defense. Jeff Fisher is a good coach. They'll show improvement next season. It wasn't going to be instantaneous with a new coach and new system. But, they're in a tough division with SFO and SEA.

Panthers I doubt would be a big player in free agency this year due cap problems.

Where are you guys getting all this? Top 10? Hope he doesn't fall to 17? Panthers have to move up? Won't fall past 19?

Guards almost NEVER go in the top 20. Last year, the top guard went 24. The year before that, 23. 2010, the top G went 17 and that was the only one of the first round. In 2009, the first guard was taken at 51.

Add that to the fact that most consider Cooper to be the 2nd best guard prospect and I don't understand the projections on this thread. I see somewhere in the late 20's, with a chance he goes 20-22 and a chance he falls to early 2nd round.

I also agree. The Rams gave Seattle all they could handle yesterday on Seattle's home turf and I was impressed with Fisher's coaching and the team's effort.

Buffalo won't draft guard, not with the way Fitzpatrick played and with a new head coach coming in. They'll almost certainly go defense or quarterback.

while they've lost against some pretty meh teams, Fisher has that team going in a very good direction.

They make the play offs next year.

Getting this team and coaching staff confident and gelling, along with getting Cam back on track, was ten times more important than 5 draft spots

Re: Panthers to Draft 14th

Both Cooper and Warmack are seen as prototype modern Gs who can both zone block effectively with power and get out to the edges. Having said that, 18-28 makes sense for them -- which is why I started the thread by saying #14 was probably a little rich.

Now if some of the OTs that are projected to go above them in the first 15 slots are unimpressive at the combine, maybe one or both of them sneak up a little.

But it is clear what everyone is gonna be fishing for: a difference making QB. Because the Panthers already have theirs, maybe they can cash in by sliding down a little and adding picks. Lord knows they have enough holes.

Guards don't go in the top 20, unless their name is Chance Warmack.

He is considered the best guard prospect since....maybe ever.

Coop may get late first, but more likely early second.

RE: Panthers to Draft 14th

Cooper is going to be all-Pro so how is #14 too high? Can you imagine D. Williams and Newton running behind Jon Cooper? If WR Keenan Allen from California is available, he would also be a great choice for the Panthers in round one. Allen is rated the #14 best player in the draft. Cooper is rated #20, and Gio #21. See the link below.

The Panthers need to draft a safety in the 2nd round. Matt Elam would be a good choice if he's still available. Elam is rated the #42 player in the draft.

42. Matt Elam | 5'10, 206 pounds | Safety | Florida *

UNC has five players on this top 100 list and three in the top 30.

Yep, Seattle beat the Rams 20-13 yesterday. Perhaps the earlier post was referring to the fact that the Rams beat Seattle in St. Louis earlier in the season.

As long as the boys represent themselves well and the University of North Carolina well, I really don't care where they end up.

Who cares where the Panthers draft? Most likely they won't be in Charlotte 5 years from now especially if Jerry Richardson (who ain't no spring chicken) is no longer around.

RE: Panthers to Draft 14th

There's never a guarantee that someone will end up being an All-Pro, Guards aren't highly sought after Draft Commodities. For instance Chance Warmack(Guard) is #3 on that Big Board but I don't think he's going in the top-10 this year. Even though Cooper could be in the top 20 on someones Big Board, his position could knock down his draft spot 10 spots or more. Gio is sort of in the same boat as Cooper in that regard.

Panthers would be better off attempting to fortify their interior Defensive Line with someone like Johnathon Hankins or Sheldon Richardson, but Keenan Allen wouldn't be a bad pick.

How much can either of our predictions really be backed up? I just don't believe that Bradford is that good and I think they are a clear third in their division. Who are they going to pass? Redskins, Seattle, and Vikings are only going to get better. No reason that San Fran, gb, or atl will get any worse. Chicago and nyg are loaded with talent. The saints should bounce back with Peyton. The panthers really looked good at the end of the year and are a piece or two away from being very good. Long story short, the NFC is just loaded and I think the rams talent isn't good enough to move above all if those other teams

After watching the clemson lsu game, I'd be pretty jacked if we acquired DeAndre Hopkins. I have no idea where he is rated, and I am a horrible evaluator of talent. But I believe that kid will be a stud at the next level.

Isn't he a RB? Or a WR? If he's a WR sure. If he's a RB, eh, I dunno. We'll need insurance for J-Stew since he's injury prone.

RE: Panthers to Draft 14th

Nah, he's a receiver. Ellington is their running back. I've seen Clemson play a few times, and personally, I like Hopkins more than Sammy Watkins. I think I'm the only one though. Once again, I am a horrible evaluator of talent, and everything I say needs to be taken with a grain of salt. And as far as j-stew is concerned, I love the guy to death. But we need to trade him or DeAngelo. We are paying both of them way to much. Granted due to their high salaries, we won't get much. But if we keep only one of each, and have Tolbert backing him up, with some 6th round rookie holding down 3rd string, I think we would be fine.
