Coastal Division champs!

Coastal Division champs!

Fedora said UNC was the champs. Are we? I thought that would be GT since both teams have 5-3 records and GT won the head to head game. What am I missing?

Re: Coastal Division champs?

Since there is a three way tie between UNC, GT and UM, Carolina wins the complicated tie breaker

Print the tee shirts! Front says: 2012 ACC Coastal Division Champs!* Back says: *We should self-imposed a bowl ban last year!

Re: Coastal Division champs!

I think we would still have received a bowl ban this year even if we had self-imposed last year. I understand the thought and what Miami is trying to do again this year but that is to save recruiting. The NCAA doesn't want any institution trying to make the NCAA any dumber. Watch Miami.

I think it is highly likely that we would have gotten the bowl ban anyways. The NCAA made it clear that they don't care about that stuff (dismantling our 2010 was the biggest penalty we suffered, but NOBODY mentions that). That said, giving up a crappy bowl game would have made sense. Miami is giving up a shot at the conference title.... that SHOULD be weighed heavily... but I suspect you are right.

Well, yet another thing for State fans to feel inferior about. Their special season turned into a division championship for us (at least between the white lines) and they played just bad enough to get another coach fired (and now will be paying two basketball and football coaching staffs). I hope somebody over there is watching the money better than Maryland did.

Re: Coastal Division champs!

according to the 3-way tiebreaker rules, we win Coastal on step 2.

Step 1- head to head records. All 3 were 1-1 against the other.

Step 2- overall records of teams tied. We were 8-4, Miami 7-5, GT 6-6.

One a related note, Crack Ride has a thread going about us giving out Coastcl championship rings. We don't even have a thread going about that. Talk about obsessed!!!!

RE: Coastal Division champs!

The tie breaker only determines who represents the division. Like this year Clemson and FSU are co-divisional champs, and by the tie breaker FSU represents the Atlantic. Technically, due to the post season bans neither Miami nor UNC is eligible to be divisional champions.

Re: Coastal Division champs!

Three way tie means Co-Champs ( or Tri-Champs ). Each team, normally, would still get a Div Champions trophy, just like CU will get one from the ACC even though they lost to FSU. The "tie breakers" simply determine the division's rep in the ACC Championship game, it does NOT determine the Div Champ. Of course, due to our ban, we are not "official" Co-Champs, but I say scr3w the ACC and print the T-shirts anyway !

Regardless of what we're "allowed" to do, I think it's appropriate for someone creative to get some underground "2012 ACC Coastal Division Champions" t-shirts and hats going.

We are ineligible for the Championship game, not ineligible to win the division, which we did.

An yes, it matters, especially to the Seniors.

Next year there will be no doubt and no technicalities behind our 2013 ACC Coastal Division Champs and 2013 ACC Champion titles. We will win the State of NC, the Coastal and the Conference. Then bring on whoever you want in the Orange Bowl and we'll beat them too! Go Heels!

This. The divisional championship is based on the regular season. We had a postseason ban.

Is no one else somewhat concerned by this? www.theacc.com/genrel/100312aae.html

"Conference Policy and Procedures

"The decision was made that should a member institution be ineligible for postseason competition due to NCAA sanctions, it will be ineligible for regular season or divisional recognition."

I mean, yeah, substantively we were champions, but officially we weren't. I just hope we don't face any backlash from the ACC for this.

Can we not put what we want on a billboard? ncstupid lied and said this was their state on one. Also , I believe our staff would have checked with the ACC before doing this. I think it is brilliant, just because it drives the rednecks in rawlee crazy.

stomped by GT

lose to dook

weakest conference schedule by far

I am stoked about what is going on with Carolina Football and would not change a thing> I love the Fedoration.

Buyt there is nothing to celebrate about last season. A few moral victories aside we won nothing.

maybe this is cool for you "hang a banner" people but I want more. I am certain Fed does too. Yoiu think he is celebrating anything about last season? Nope.

Still lots of work to be done. I have all the confidence we will get there.

Disagree. This is not about last year, but a statement to those who want to dismantle UNC football that we are alive and well.

RE: Coastal Division champs!

We don't need a billboard about a relatively insignificant accomplishment to do that. We can show everyone we are 'alive and well' by continually improving on the field the next few years.

The Coastal Division was terrible. We lost to dook, Wake & Ga Tech (giving up 69 pts). We had the easiest possible schedule of all Coastal Division teams & won on an arbitrary 3-way tiebreaker.

I firmly believe the best is yet to come in the Fedora Era.

As for last year's "Coastal Division Championship"...yawn.

RE: Coastal Division champs!

Im not saying last year was GREAT my point is we did win the Coastal and for the guys on that team that worked there butts off you should at least be pround of that weather the ACC says we won it or not! I didn't say i wanted a T-shirt OR Banner! Im just saying be pround of our football team and what they did do on the field and build off of that for next year! we should have been and could have been Ez 11-1 or 12-0! But I have faith also that we will get to 10+ wins soon!!
