That is admirable! Maybe it's time that the indians show the chiefs how it's done?

Thats awesome. Need more guys on the team like him. He's gonna be good someday.

He shouldn't have much trouble finding a time in early January to reschedule.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
Is there just not any good news on Offense to be had?
Here's the Tweet from Rick Maese (one of my favorites, btw)
Wachenheim: "...things you would teach a Pop Warner football player. Just started back at square one and just started building on that.” So if Davis is taking Pop Warner lessons this week, what was he doing all of the previous weeks? Anybody else starting to think this is the reason players don't develope in Washington?
We have a guy like Fred, willing and ready to do the work, but no coach to do the teaching.

So, sue me

Mease knows it all? The WJFK commentator that revealed his practice said the TE coach stayed with him all week. Mease is fast becoming my Hack of the Year.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
It shows me he gives a damn, and also that he doesn't want to blow his chance to emerge. Davis knows he's deficient in blocking duties. By making that part of his game at least plausible he can go a long ways towards ensuring playing time once Cooley returns. HardMcCray wrote:A LOT of players needed to cancel their vacations. RE: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
I am not a fan of his, but I give lots of credit...it has been a long tough season for them all already and he decided to stick around and practice...
I would not have faulted him for stepping away for a little bit to get some fresh air, glad to see someone wants to better themselves on this team

It was very happy to see Fred Dais stay in town last week to practice it shows he wants to be a great TE.

What is this crud about 'vacations' in the middle of a season? Why are we applauding millionaire athletes for practicing their craft?

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
I think at some point the hacks need to re-enforce positive with positive. When you ar eplaying behind an All Pro caliper player like Chris Cooley, you're just not going to see much playing time. Fred Davis actually cared enough to know he's now in the spot light and is doing something to get better. Just last night they talked about how Drew Brees worked with Lance Moore (I beleive) for hours and days above and beyond practise to improve his skills... this is the stuff players do that make them better. Washington Post hacks can spin it most anyway I imagine, I don't know as I never read them.

Good for Davis to show some maturity and leadership. There should have been several vets who should have done the same, but this team just doesn't care anymore.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
I have to agree. At some point players trying to do the right thing have to be encouraged by our media otherwise, we just get a Chris Cooley who justs want to do his time and get out of here.. (for example,) The bye week was probably a blessing. What would change in practices that be any different to the past 12 or so weeks? Get out go get your mind off football, come back and let's try this again.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
While it's difficult to analogize football to a normal, human occupation, it's hard to imagine an organization that, when things are going poorly, sends everyone off to get their minds off of work. Well, maybe government and Enron, but other than those...

RE: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
Hope he didn't oversleep this time. Nice gesture on his part, but as the temporary No. 1, he HAS to learn to block — never did at USC.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
So while Davis' teammates left town to get away from this nightmarish season for a few days, he stayed here to work with tight ends coach Scott Wachenheim. From Wednesday through Friday for 21/2 hours each morning, Wachenheim put Davis through a variety of drills designed to fortify his pass blocking and minimize any drop-off from Cooley, one of Washington's most valuable players. Link Wow 7 1/2 total hours over 3 days. I'm impressed.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
Well...... at least it's something. When things have gone as wrong as they have, one has to resort to baby steps to get in the right direction. I remember Henry Ellard when he was here... used to practices his patterns about the same amount of extra time.

The mere fact that he has to come in and work on that is amazing... I suppose he was always used as a pass catcher, and never learned the nuances of impeding ones movement in front of oneself.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
Sore Heads, Unanonymous. 7 1/2 hours of blocking practice, he can definintely fend off a few block head ankle bite posts. This team needs to take some positive baby steps to have any hope to hit the reset button. Thanks Fred: what the ingrates think is totally predictable and totally .

Tough crowd.
I am sure if he was off in the Bahamas getting drunk, soliciting hookers and smoking weed, then everyone acting like it is no big deal here would be applauding him then.
Dear Lord what’s next? Fans being forced to kiss newly erected statues of Snyder’s @ss at the entrance gates to the stadium? ~mojomagicsback, 10/29/09

It's funny because this is probably true. Freddy D: Thank you for stepping up, taking responsibility and being accountable for your job. This team lacks your fortitude in spades and I only hope your influence rubs off on the rest of these Pre-Madonna's imitating football players! Rat Boy wrote:Tough crowd.

Re: Fred Davis cancelled his vacation to practice
There are these new shots for being Gruntled. They reportedly make people happy and appreciative for others' sacrifices even while they continue throwing poo from the sidelines. Then, when they run out of feces, it makes them vounteer for 7 1/2 hours of vacation they had bought and paid for on the opposite coast to be a blocking dummy instead.
