top places to eat in Nashville

Headed to Nashville next week for a conference with wife joining me. We're staying downtown, but will get out of downtown for really good cuisine. Any suggestions???

Rolf & Daughters.  Named 3rd best new restaurant in America by Bon Appetit for 2013.  Basically it is a lot of fresh made pastas.  I enjoy the restaurant thoroughly.  Doesn't hurt that such a lauded restaurant is nice and affordable(most expensive dish on the menu is $24).

Maggiano's on West End if you like great Italian.

I agree with Maggiano's! I haven't been there in years but they used to have a piano bar in the back and the guy was amazing. I think his name was Jeff Alfiero . Very talented and a great guy. I got the chance to play in a Titans celebrity golf tournament with him and he is top notch. Not to mention the food was amazing!

I second Demo's.

The Pharmacy in East Nashville. Best burger I've had. We take out of town visitors there. Get the orange creamsicle soda.

Everyone has their own preference on BBQ but we like the new Martin's BBQ near Belmont.

Re: top places to eat in Nashville

I know I gave a response earlier, but I will go back and offer some more.

I am not trying to get on my soapbox too much here, but still I am definitely against recommending a chain restaurant as the place to go to an out of towner.  Chains have their place for sure, but personally when I travel to a new location, one of the things that interest me most are the local eats.

Nashville is one of the most rapidly rising "food" cities in the US.  5 years ago there was minimal non-chain options, but now there are dozens of good relatively unique options in the city(not to mention a really good food truck scene).  The issue a lot of time with foodie restaurants is the cost associated and/or the atmosphere.

Earlier I recommended Rolf and Daughters because it is mostly inexpensive and has a causal dress code(though it can be difficult to get into).  If something more formal/upscale is desired, a similar drive will take you to Kayne Prime.  Other more expensive options are there like Margot Cafe, Etch, Capital Grille, etc.

A couple less expensive southern style places are Arnold's and Monells.

Couple options right near downtown is the Southern(mentioned already) and even Puckett's that mostly capture the traditional American type cuisine(i.e. not a specific type of cuisine).

Nashville is known for hot chicken...so if that has any interest at all check out one of the many restaurants that serve that.  If Prince's or Bolton's scares you...check out Pepperfire or Hattie B's.

And now I exit stage left.

I wouldn't think to recommend Demo's in such a great dining city as Nasvhille.  But it really is good.

One of the best pizzas in the world can be found here:
http://www.desanopizza.it/

I know...I know..."Why would I want pizza when I can get that anywhere?"

Trust me on this...it's one of my top 5 dining experiences from anywhere in the world simply because they're SO FREAKING GOOD at what they do. Other places are fancier and have a more diverse menu, but if you want to see craftsmen at work, making an incredible product, go to DeSano's.

Bingo! Add in Rolf and you've got a great list. I'm over Demo's now. It was one of the first places I checked out when I moved to town 12 years ago, but there are too many amazing independent places like those listed above to bother with Demo's now. Also check out the nashvilleoriginals.com page for a good list.

Jamacaway is in the Farmers Market just on the North side of downtown next to Bicentennial Mall. Ate there a few weeks ago. Very good and not expensive at all.

The Pharmacy for burgers.  East Nashville.  5-10 min

The southern-Downtown next to Symphony  If you are staying in any of the newer hotels you should be able to walk.

Past Perfect:  Simple, somewhat of a dive.  Walk

City house and Past Perfect have great drinks.

The thing about Demo's is the price.  Incredibly low for what you get.

Re: top places to eat in Nashville

I would suggest going to 12 South and East Nashville at least once for a meal. Josephine in 12 South is really good. I would check the menu before going to see if it up your alley. If you like different beers 12 South Taproom is a very good beer bar with above average bar food. Over on the East side, you have a ton of good restaurants. Pharmacy for a real good burger, Rose Pepper for some good food and great margaritas (best I've had), Mitchell Deli for one of the better sandwiches you'll have. Village Pub next door is good as well.
