Re: Hope the Weeklys are recruiting some ..

hitting won't be this team's problem next year..unless Gabriel improves alot over what she has shown in the first two years, pitching will be our downfall. I've heard that there is hope on the way in two years though

Had a chance a few years back to be the FIRST SEC team to win it all... typical UT sports. Both UF and Bama have flown right on by!!! UT is f-ing cursed.

Re: Hope the Weeklys are recruiting some ..

Whatever...that is a stupid theory. If kids want to be Vols, they will give their all for Tennessee. If not they won't. It doesn't matter where they are from. Are you saying we should have passed on Peyton and take a 3 star instate quarterback commit instead??

Re: Hope the Weeklys are recruiting some ..

AGREE!

It's gets pretty old hearing the same lame mantra about instate players, only recruits who grew up Vol fans, blah, blah, blah.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Riley Ferguson claim to have a long time affinity for the Vols (due to his grandfather's love of the Vols)? Guess what this got ya!

I guess using jac's (and many others') logic, we better quit recruiting Gibson now, as he grew up a Miami fan. And though he has an offer, it is unlikely he will attend Miami. It's a shame, as whatever school he does sign with, he simply not give his all..... guess we all better hope it's Auburn or Ohio State and not the Vols!

Hmmmm, using this nonsensical logic, just imagine if Pat Summitt had adhered to this recruiting approach espoused by so many.....

banghead

And give up on players like Shipman.  And Davin.  And Lauren Gibson last year.  And Spigner.  And Grieve.  And Monica Abbott.  And dozens of others who have been the best players on the LV softball teams over the years.  I'm all for signing the top in-state players but it really is idiotic to rule out really good prospects from out of state who do want to play here.  I don't follow them like I do the men's sports, but I follow them close enough to know that your comment is not very smart.

I am starting to wonder why I ever come to this board any more.banghead

Re: Hope the Weeklys are recruiting some ..

National power??? Cmon. National bridesmaids maybe. When do we get our APR trophy? Thats all feel good crap. Bring some hardware home for goodness sake. Some of you act like this athletic program should be satisfied with following the rules and trying hard. That attitude is a slap in the face to those who did what it took to bring trophies home, IMO. Before the mens doubles tennis team won their NC... can you remember the last one? Womens track 10 years ago? Idk. 100m dollar budget doesnt buy much anymore. Just tired of our guys and gals being second place.

Not being a negavol. Was watching some other teams today and they reminded me I don't like slap hitting.

Here is the current ranking for the LV's 15 class, (posted by phone):

www.studentsports.com/softball...-classes-2015s/

Here are the players, bios, etc. :

www.studentsports.com/softball...00-2015s-60-51/

#56... Taylor Rowland (1B, So Cal Athletics)--TennesseeTaylor is a sweet-swinging lefthander who was on the OC Batbusters-Myers team that made it to the 16U PGF Nationals championship game last summer. She moved over with Coach Doug Myers to the A's organization and will help the team make a try for its fifth 18U PGF title in a row. Taylor hit .415 over the summer with a .780 slugging percentage--very close to the .407 she hit in high school where she also flashed her defensive skills, committing only one error in 206 chances.

........................

#57... Abby Lockman (C/IF, Corona Angels)--TennesseeAbby is a strong, versatile player who can play multiple positions and is a dangerous power hitter. She's the younger sister of Emily Lockman, a former Gatorade State Player of the Year and pitcher who helped Nebraska make it to the 2013 WCWS, and as a freshman Abby got to play with her star sibling. Abby has been with the Corona Angels since 10U and has won Triple Crown Sports Nationals titles at the 14U and 16U levels. She started at first base last year for Norco (Calif.) High, the CIF Southern Section Div. I champs, and earned 2nd Team All-State honors as she hit .420 with 30 RBI and eight homers.

............................

#59... Brittany Edmondson (OF, Tennessee Ballhawks)--TennesseeBrittany is a dangerous triple threat slapper with 2.60 home-to-first speed and is the prototype centerfielder/lead-off hitter who makes you defend the whole field. Perhaps the fastest 2015 softball player in Tennessee, she has been a high school starter since the eighth grade and last year had a dominating season, hitting .610 with 72 hits, 31 RBI, a .683 onbase percentage and 25 steals, to lead her high school team to the state title while being named 1st Team All-State.

...........................

www.studentsports.com/softball...00-2015s-80-71/

#71… Bria Bush (P, Georgia Impact-Pauly)--TennesseeBria carries a confidence and presence to the field which carries over to her teammates. She throws 63-64 mph with two tough pitches--a riseball and a change-up. She's also very accurate and is always around the plate. Bria has pitched her high school to back-to-back Georgia AAA state titles and went 18-1 with a 0.61 ERA last fall to earn All-Area Pitcher of the Year. As a sophomore she was 22-2 with a 0.99 ERA.

Incoming freshmen

Tennessee softball signed the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the country for 2014, inking six young ladies, including three from Tennessee — Seymour's Lauren Irwin, Nashville's C.J. McClain and Paris' Scarlet McSwain.

I don't have any idea on historical records for the Lady Vols, but this team hit 81 HR's this season. I am not sure that what anyone would have to complain about regarding the hitting on this team.

Maybe it's just me, but Raven Chavanne had a pretty good career as a Lady Vol employing a good bit of slap hitting. It is a great way to utilize your speed and put pressure on the defense.

I knew it was highly ranked, but could not find it right off hand. Thanks for the assist.
